  • Sir Vilhelm doesn't have a very large role in the DLC, but he manages to be fairly memorable with even the brief appearances he's given. A big part of his lasting presence is his voice, but it seems like he wasn't always going to have it.

In the past, Miyazaki has talked about how sometimes the concept art for an armor set is drawn and then a whole character is designed for it after the fact, like with Siegmeyer of Catarina and his rotund, onion-like armor. It's possible Vilhelm and the Burial Knight set had a similar relation, with this unused armor set eventually inspiring the creation of Vilhelm's set, his personality and his role in the DLC.

Dark Souls 3 messed around with a lot in the prototype phase before later implementing those things in Sekiro and Elden Ring. There were attempts at horse-enemies (which later came to fruition with Gyobu), a crouch button and a day/night cycle. This might have been because DS3 came out only a year after Bloodborne and development might have been short, or maybe Fromsoft felt it didn't really fit in with the game's structure so they scrapped those concepts.
Which is kinda funny to think about since some people think the devs tried to play it extremely safe with 3, when they were already experimenting with new mechanics during the prototype period. You saw a lot of those concepts implemented for the first time when Sekiro came out.

Given that his actions were to put a stop to the cycle of fire, just as Friede's was to stop the cycle in the Painted World as well, it could've been a reference or callback, or maybe they wanted to instill the idea that Friede and Sully were working together. Hell, might've been why Friede's scythes are the way they are too.

I believe the Burial Knight set was used in some if the modding community's bigfer works, either the Convergence mod or Cinders. I cant remember which, but a shame we didnt get it finished up and used elsewhere. Very cool look

I have never played any Zelda games (never owned a nintendo console before the switch) but all the music used in this videos always makes me wonder where it was originally used because it always has some air of mystery and subtle horror to it and that isn't how I imagine Zelda games XD

Twilight Princess was a somewhat darker take on the series. The most unsettling is still Majora's Mask, but there is a horror undercurrent to a lot of TP.

I've never seen Vilhelm's armour as effeminate. The cape/shawl is very much like a chasuble, a liturgical vestment.
Happy to see some Dark Souls content again. Much more interesting than Elden Ring, to me.

Yay! More DS3 curiosities! I love these ones, since DS3 is one of my favorite in the souls series and, in my opinion, a game with such a huge potential that couldn't come to be as its best due to lack of time for the development of the game. I still imagine what the game could've been if they had delayed the release one more year... I would've loved to have those skyboxes that you have shown before or a day/night cicle... so much potential, but oh well, it's still a fantastic game. Thanks a lot for uploading these.

Even though Vilhelm's design is slender, it is actually more historically accurate to the armor. Late medieval plate armor was quite well-fitting and would have wasp-waist tampering. So I never took him as a having a feminine frame.
