Rare Climate Event Floods Dry Gujarat | Jist

Gujarat has witnessed unprecedented heavy rainfall especially in arid regions of Kutch and Saurashtra. This extreme rainfall is being attributed to a rare atmospheric phenomenon of a land-based deep depression over this region. Twenty out of 36 districts in Gujarat have received rainfall exceeding 1,000 per cent above the normal range. From Ahmedabad to Vadodara to Jamnagar to Dwarka, the major urban centres of Gujarat are witnessing waterlogging, the highways too are flooded. At several places, highways have been damaged. In Vadodara, crocodiles from the overflowing Vishwamitri river have made their way into the city.
