Sole seki discussion usoz. On the n$$$a topic, I'm sure my parents that grew up in South Auckland in the 60s and 70s were called that. I've probably been called that once my whole life (mid 30s). I think for our elders, they don't discuss that type of abuse much because their focus was to build the au loku and do all the faasamoa/wider family and bring the relatives from Samoa over. The abuse was simply part of community building in this foreign land, hence why it's not spoken about in our Samoan community much.

The term “fob” is now use to refer to “islanders”. It’s ridiculous how a derogatory term is now “claimed” and accepted in todays society.

😂😂haven’t listened to this part yet but I always have a giggle when I hear diaspora.. I think it’s the connection to being woke.. or that my 30+ brain can’t concrete the definition in my brain and find myself googling this every time I hear/see it used 😂

As a Pacific Islander in the diaspora (😂😂😂), growing up in the states I know it’s used a lot in our communities especially on the west coast. I don’t agree with saying it but I understand why bc a lot of our ppl grow up with the brothas in the projects/ghetto. So bc of that proximity as well as dating/marrying and having families with them, it’s more common and somewhat normal. I don’t agree with saying it bc that’s their culture and even if we may be close to it, we should give them the respect not to say it.

He's partially deaf, an award winning creative in the Pacific space and has a great insight into a lot of topics - turn your audio up if you have a problem with it - or go listen to the morning shift. x

I wasted 10K to do shipping course. But never got a job I am working for power company. University is a drain to parents.. Get out there get life experience try out. different jobs and earn your living instead of getting minimum help to survive..
