Wow! Great video That is great food and at cheap prices. The cafes also seemed very clean and the food well presented. I have been to Ecuador but not Cuenca; next time I must come there. But no trip to Ecuador is complete without feasting on cuy - guinea pig?
Hola, I actually moved to Cuenca 1 year ago today . I eat out everyday . Spend about $130.00 a month. 2 to 8 bucks a meal. Often take half home for dinner . When riding down Don Basco Ave. I stop and buy a couple of dollars of fresh roasted pork . Half of dozen street side open air restaurants with whole roasted hog out front . Walk across to the Supermarket . Get fresh baked bread , mushrooms peppers and onions . $2.00. Make a couple of big ( Philadelphia style cheese steak sandwiches ) Enjoyed your video ! Gracias. 1 of my favourite places in a tiny Mexican taco joint . Two authentic tacos and a drink . Dollar eighty five. Not Ecuadorian . But run by a young Ecuadorian couple . ( That counts , doesn't it ) jajaja ! El Central . Near Coral Shopping . Let me know if you want directions . Also fav pizza by the slice . Block away from Mercado # 9. Fantastic outdoor market that goes for blocks . Can spend a hour there . With our seeing another gringo.
WoW! Thanks for sharing your Cuenca insights! We love the city's food scene. We are so impressed by how much good food there is and how affordable it is!
At the fruit stand she said in spanish "la yapa" wich its used when someone, usually a vendor, gives you and "extra" you will find this expression also in Perú. Very common practice at fruit and veggies stands.
We walked a lot as the city centre is really walkable and then for longer distances taxis are really affordable and there is a taxi app you can use that is like Uber but for taxis.
Yeah but that’s most places in the world really. You can always judge the cleanliness and safety of various food vendors though. We’ve gotten better at it 😊 and thanks for watching!

Looks like you gotta get cooking! :)
Thanks for watching Howard 😊

The thing you ate after espumilla was “Huevito Chileno”
Ohh thank you!! :)
I'm enjoying your videos. Can you tell me how you are getting around Cuenca?
We walked a lot as the city centre is really walkable and then for longer distances taxis are really affordable and there is a taxi app you can use that is like Uber but for taxis.
Loved tegrillo!!!
The Hornado was amazing
when are you come back to colombia?😸
It’s not in our immediate plans but we definitely hope to one day :)
Try some encebollado. It’s a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage of Ecuador and a delicious soup.
We didn't know that! Thanks for letting us know :)
Food looks amazing and very affordable.
Thanks for watching! It definitely was!
Haha, they handle the food with no gloves so that adds to the taste 😮

Did they serve you "Guatita" with peanut sauce?
I dont think so, is that usually the case ?
where did you come up with tripe being Ecuador's most traditional dish? I've lived here 3 years and never even been offered it,
We were told at the resturant we ate at that it was and when we looked it up is also says it’s a traditional dish in Ecuador :)
It looks delightful until you wind up with a stomach bug that’s hard to get rid of 😢
You have to be careful for sure but all these things were fine in the end 😊👍
