Props to the demonstrator for singing live as well as a very good demonstration.
Yeah David is the dude, Have met him twice, he knows what he is doing!
I've found his demonstrations really bad in the past, but recently he's been okay.
ok, that's one of the best vocoder demos i've ever seen. holy shit. someone give that man a raise.
best demo of these so far! those ADSR demos didn't even get close to this. Thanks Nick!
Thanks Marshal, well thanks David Ahlund really, he's the guy for these.
hi SonicState, my question is: how can you power the unit (i'm talking about the tb03)? I know there is a usb cable(to plug like a mobile phone), but i think is not enough. I think the unit (anyway) needs battery… I NEED this kind of explanation. Thanks
It's powered by USB or battery powered.
so.. if you use usb cable you don't need batteries inside, right?
Correct, head over to the Roland site to get all the details: www.roland.com/us/products/tb-03/
Actually feeling the vocoder more from this. Great vid Nick, and great singing David!
The sequencer feature is the coolest thing about this.
This is hands down the best demo of these new Boutiques I have seen so far! I cannot wait until Nick gets his hands on these for a real in-house demo. Yeah, this trio will be extremely hard to resist...
Great demo of the Vocoder
even over the video they sound better than I expected - definitely getting the right feeling from those sounds!
They look really cool and to my ears they sound very good too. Definitely buying both! Portable and battery operated !!
Thank you Nick & David! Im actually way more interested in the vocoder after that demo - great stuff David!
I totally agree. :-)
i cannot imagine the frustration of people who were making electronic music in the late 80's nineties and everyone since WAITING for roland to just make some updated but faithful versions of these boxes. im shocked it took this long but hopefullly they continue the line. great video
Still waiting ... There are better 3rd party clones out there
what are some good ones? i'm interested in the 303 sound but it would be cool to find a clone that has other functionality as well. do you know of any?
matt black
Cyclone TT-303.. About £350, and it *is* the original 303, with a few extra features... I was put on to it by another RUclipsr - it's a proper analog reissue.. I was amazed how good it sounds
*****
The Cyclone TT-303 is the closest I've heard to the real thing.. Apparently there's only one unsourable transistor that separates it from the original... It's a near-perfect replica
The 303 came in and all I can think is smileys, smileys everywhere!
go for an analog clone or you won't smile too long ! TT303, xoxbox, acidlab bass synth, or perhaps the mighty avalon..
I find the tb03 is a big trap for tourist, basically a plugin wrap in a plastic box, wich has no sense because their is already tons of plugin which will do at least the same and better..we did it without roland for years, their is really tons of other good options available..also the effect in the tb03 are lowquality ones :/
If you really want an acid gear I will go for analog clones or digital plug-in, depending of how you want to use it their is really affordable options..
personaly I don't have money so I do my acid stuff with the mb33 retro, wich is the cheapest analog option avaible but it has no sequencer ; it has however one of the most beautiful square wave I ever heard, and you can mix waveshape and do really fat non acid bassline with it to, and it generate analog distortion when you pass the 12oclock range of the volume, and you can ajust the envelop knobs range with a screw driver..awesome machine I love her
Sonicstate always great.
If it weren't for the price, I'm kinda beginning to dig this "VST in a custom standalone hardware controller box" direction Roland is going for, more so if then they'll show up as PLUG-OUTs *and* VST/AU plug-ins... and if they'll come up with a bigger full-length shell keyb controller to snap a few into :D
roland have found a great demo guy, well done
very good vid. love the sounds got me noddin' I was really looking forward to hear all 3 together tho. would have started dancing :P
All these have internal interfaces, sick
OMG I am in love!!!!
Please Roland make a 808 Boutique!
+1 to that!
I have a feeling they will at some point...
August 2017 :)
why? just spend the extra and go get the TR-8 and then you'll have the 909 and if you like a 707 as well.
Agreed. The 7x7 expansion is a great buy.
14:14
"I feel fantastic!!!"
:P
I think that they could've sold the Boutiques for $500.00 a piece ALL DAY LONG!!! I know I'm loving mine! I have the TR-08, TR-09, SH-01A, TB-03, Next on the list will probably be the VP-03 or the SE-02, I WANT THEM ALL!!!! Best Bang For The Buck! IMO.
Some people kill me, They gripe saying that these units are too small and therefore they already have established a mindset that these cannot be powerful units, But yet they use software ALL DAY LONG!!! SMH!!!
I am glad that a lot of people are sleeping on these though, therefore makes it easier for me to get mine. I will admit that I slept on them too, Until the release of the TR-08. It's all downhill from there. So says My Wallet!
I WILL BUY the vp-03 .
Do the 03 and 08 come with their little tilt cases? Loving all this btw! Best demo yet :D
yup
Why does the interviewer keep asking about 808 when the TR-09 obviously is a 909 clone....
vp-03 should have a carrier input. Don't get me wrong the vocoder sounds great, but if I have no control over the sounds, what's the point? I just got an ultranova and the only reason I would consider getting this would be to be able to use my ms-20 and my soon-to-be-mine matrixbrute as carriers. But since it has no input, there's really no point. Just get an ultranova/mininova depending on budget and preferance, you can even make it portable since it can run on 5V USB. Just get a powerbank with two usb outputs, a USB speaker, some velcro and you're good to go. Flux made a video showing that it works.
***** The voice is actually the modulator, not the carrier, simple mix up. Of you could just put in any instrument but it wouldn't act as the synth voice, it would take the place of the voice. The thing is, since this has such a simple synth part for the vocoder, I think it would obviously be a good idea to have a way to use other synths for the vocoder.
*****
You know, I completely forgot the vo-1 even existed... thanks a bunch dude! :3
Just FYI, it actually has carrier (and modulator) input via the USB interface.
*****
Yeah but that sucks, they couild have just added an extra jack input, but now youneed to use the PC to do it, therefore portability and stand-aloneness which many people want are thrown out the window
Best vocoder I've ever used is the EHX Voice Box.
It is a 256-band vocoder, also has several modes for auto-harmonies that uses the carrier signal to determine the key, has a dark lush reverb for the dry and wet mix, and the "gender" knob does a really convincing job too, to the point that I recorded female vocals on a soundtrack and everyone thought I had brought in a girl to sing for that track. It also has a dry signal out for the carrier too.
EHX has another vocoder pedal, the "V256 Vocoder", but I'm not sure what the difference is. I think it has an auto-tune feature or something.
some great new info here
Doesn't the TR-8 have a 909 "plugout"?
Roland seems to have it in their heads that we only want miniature plastic boxes featuring digital regurgitations of their classic analog hardware. There's a market for it, sure I'll give them that, but why the hell don't they seem to understand that we want new ground up designs?!
where's a CR-78 ? that would have been nice.
Very nice, so prices same as original boutiques.... Im not seeing this :( £329 TB03 & VP-03. More for the 09.
I think it's the same price as the jp-08 when you take into account the EU leave $-£ exchange muck-up
Thomann: TB-03 £331, TR-09 £373
Just pre ordered the TB all the same ;-/) Thank you SonicState Nik :-)
they are a lovely trio, sound quite good for virtual analog but seem a bit overpriced. I'd buy them for € 300 each (although I actually don't need a 909).
i ordered them straightaway, and yes i confess i don't really need the 09 but it's more for having it in my collection ... lol....
@@DjFille ...you could have rebirth and for nothing ha ha
@@mrblister8359 20 years ago it was the top yeah..., nothing can beat real knobs ;)
@@DjFille ..i have a xp and a behringer bcr2000 to control rebirth. it's the best thing ever thats why roland sued proppeller heads for copyright and it died. So roland could release rompler after rompler of the 808 and 909 and tb303. but anyone who is smart knows rebirth is still the best
Hey guys. Could anyone tell me if I would be able to sync a TB-03 to my pocket operators/Volcas using mini jack pulse sync? Thanks
Almost certainly.
+SlowCarToChina are you speculating? I need facts dammit! 😂
Nick asks him in the video if the trigger output will sync Volcas and the geezer said yes. So, unless the geezer misheard Nick, the wee 909 will almost certainly clock a Korg. A trigger pulse is just a short, voltage spike. 😉
Unless I missed it I don't think the system-8 demo is in this video
thanks for the demo😀 they look kinda cute but do sound amazing- shame about the VP only having 4 voices, bit pointless for a strings machine
6:43 Starting '80s videogame sounds ... "Awesome!" O_o'
br0 i need to cop me one of those tb03's
Hello Nick! Can you ask them, are there planning any updates on TB-03 that will make accents sound closer to original? Because now overall sound of TB-03 is unglued and has not feel of real TB-303 in terms of dynamics
He's obviously filmed this demonstration before even posting it, so how in the hell could he manage to ask them a question in real time? C'mon. Don't be the grandad of the Internet. Don't be pathetic. Just stop and learn something about technology for once in your putrid life, you blithering buffoon.
What a silly comment)) Of course I haven't meant he should answer in THIS video. I meant future issues of Sonic Labs, you moron
"I can already here a little more authenticity"
Hahah...
So these are remakes?
Ah digitally re-modelled
JAJAJAJAJAJAAA...Very good...animo con alegrias...
But they aren't the same price range. Instead you pay more for less when compared to the equallivant Airas, getting Volca-style stupidity with built in crap speaker, no line output and no PSU included, but at triple the price.
Had the VP-03 been priced like a JU-06/JX-03, I might have considered it, despite missing the dedicated carrier input, despite the faders being 2/3 the size they could and should be, despite the built in speaker, despite the lack of line output, despite the lack of a PSU.
It's just too many "despites" for a small piece of limited gear costing over 400€ - even after thomann lowered the expected price today.
Roland pulling a Korg on us...
What was the song he sang?
Hide And Seek by Imogen Heap.
if roland was a clothes designer we would all still be wearing flares in 2020
I think the 09 and 03 sound like winners to me. The vocoder not so much. The lack of programmability and no ensemble on the strings kinda kill it.
14:24 - ensemble :-)
Just for the vocal section as far as I know.
Ok, I can highly recommend the streichfett :-)
ACB or not, it sounds plush.
David is an asset.....looks like the vintage stuff might loose its value and worth...
DeLaSoul reminded us that '3' is the magic number. The new Roland 'TB-03' seems to have a missing '3'.This synth is not 'magic' is any conceivable way...
Good fun, but those knobs look like they are too close together. FFS Roland!
Nothing more than toys
Sound digital and crafted in plastic
agreed... and they dare to call them for "remakes" I take that as a slap in the face...
And while you wallow in elitism, tons of people will make absolutely superb music with them.
Since its 35 years later this is what is worrying. Roland's best idea is to make toy versions of their old stuff? Ridiculous.
Same shit they've been doing in Hollywood for the past decade or more.
909 cymbals are the worst thing that ever happened to electronic music. That being said, these look pretty sweet!
2 outputs.
After AIRA, there is no senso to make a reissue BUT DIGITAL. Look at Korg or Moog, their reissue of ARP and model D are ANALOG. So ridicoulos, what is this? AIRA reissue? there is already the digital modern-look version, com'on Roland all we were waiting for the ANALOG reissue, not this shit. Further, tb-03 with overdrive is so sad, the worst digital distortion never seen. Very disappointed, boutique and this, all simply VSTs in a plastic cases.
They sound pretty good tto me. Why do you want analogue versions so much?? You do know you can get a Xoxbox clone already? And if you want more analogue gear go mmodular.
I agree, for many, its about live work and analog live is not always the best way, many synths are stable as granite, but many are not, and that is not what you want under pressure, the interesting thing is the 96kHz audio via USB too, into an MX-1 or perhaps they will come out with something else too - this AIRA link is a pretty cool technology.
The point is to sucker us out of our $$$. These units should have been released before or a decade later after the AIRA series has been exhausted.
I really regret wasting money on my AIRA units, I don't need both but these units are what I was looking for in the first damn place. I actually and recently purchase a TT-303, because the TB-3 doesn't sequence like a TB-303, now these idiots release this $hit. smfh... Who has cash like that these days? May bad, credit is the currency of today. Who needs a new bill?
+SP 1200 the price is not an issue if you didn't purchase the AIRA units, if you did and then buy these it adds up. I feel you though, thanks for the back handed advice, nonetheless.
i have rebirth on xp and a bcr2000 sorry roland invent something new after owning a mc303 and the drifting midi i aint ever buying new old gear. Invent new drum machines that no one will like for the first ten years and then it will become a classic then you can release romplers for the next 40 years.
I am very disappointment from Boutique JP-08 and for me ACB is not good !!!
The 303 came in and all I can think is smileys, smileys everywhere!
