viSio is the worlds first real volumetric 3D display with the
capabilities of fast animation playback off a SD-memory card.
This is the second and final generation prototype... the first one was just a fail
(watch it here: • progress log / 3DOT - ... )
Maybe I will upload a build log of it aswell, if there is enough demand.
Some features did not fit into the clip.
This project started as a school project, but became too complicated, so I continued it in my basement. I´ve designed and build everything from the circuits till the PC-DataProcessing software, which took me around one entire year to complete.
It is my very first project, and one year ago I startet it from completely zero knowledge.
But finally, my megalomaniac goals are reached and I am quite happy with the results.

Awesome, congrats from UTN-FRT
It's have one of the most beautiful startup animation on POV display i've ever seen!
If its not too much trouble, could you upload a build log of this project as well? the last one was interesting to read.
Make vacum under the dome! No noise, less friction... profit! ;)
Actually it is a problem with bearings in vacuum causing local overheat. Engine coils get warm so a vacuum chamber would likely kill the motor in minutes.
Hello!
What the software you are used to create visualization (images or video)?
What about display instead of led light like a 45 degree angle display strip or a smart phone rectangular display
What hall-sensor do you use (looks like SS495A, but i'm not sure)? And how power stabilization works (exactly in moving part, after brushes)?
why have you stopped working on this?
What if instead of using layered LEDs you had a solid white spiral. then you could use a projector to to light it up while its spinning. then your vertical resolution would only be limited to the projectors framerate, and the horizontal resolution would be the same as the projector.
to use the max-chip was just a fail - this new build uses bare 16-bit shift registers for each arm, which reduces the wiring, and i can control the multiplexing as i want. Nice to hear that you want to build it aswell! If you have any questions - you can contact me
Awesome project, Max! Beautifully crafted and engineered! Congratulations!
You said in a comment that you were thinking on publishing it as an opensource project. Are you still considering that possibility? I just started to experiment with Atmega microcontrollers and this project of yours would be a tremendous study tool for me, in gathering knowledge, tips and tricks while studying all the details in it!
Again, nice work!
I've done something similar, although a bit less advanced - you can find two videos about it on my channel, together with reports in german and english, source code and CAD files. Of course I'd also be happy to answer any question you might have :)
Good Job!!!, but you write INFORAMTION instead INFORMATION in your IPAD APP. I wish build an display like this!!!
Greetings from Ecuador
What kind of motor are you using?
2:58 InfoRAMtion, Info about the device's RAM ;), Nice work! it is a piece of Art!.
Oh my God! Its called a typo. Where do you live? Under the rocks.
oh man, it's so dang cool!
brilliant. no really.
very cool!Amazing project. Do you plan to post a How-to on Github? I would love to build one of my own. Make your mark on history and post the details.
But does it run crisis
Whats the RPM on that?
where is the power source for led's ?
I have actually shot a lot of pictures during the bulid, because i always wanted to make it others possible to build one aswell. I just need to write up some text to describe all what I have done, and i fear that this will take me some time. Maybe I will publish the eintire project as opensource - idk so far. Anyway - I will release a build log quite soon when i have enough time.
Were can I find some information of how to construct something like this? a community or a course of electronic about this.
thx - i am sure there are a lot more writing mistakes aswell. Does its job good anyway :P. Will correct that one on the next exhibition
This thing literally has more fps than a console.....
true lmao
The future is now thanks to science! nice work!
cool
invention
how can get the cover glass box ?
have you considered just sweeping a flat led display?
man u could have kept song dude . this work iz awesome .
Genius !! Do realise the potential of this?
i like it
future of television
check back soon^^
Song?
Ellie Goulding, I'm shure about this. I don't know the song..
Akira!
Bin schwer beeindruckt!
mind=blown
what does it mean POV ?
Persistence of vision.
