Another really useful drill. I prepare for my league matches by re-viewing several of your lessons. It helps me focus, and in every match I find help from what I've seen. Great instruction, Niels. Thank you.
This was a great drill Niels! It took me 4 tries before I could do the pro-version with some confidence. The really hard part is to keep focus on all 15 balls and make sure you stroke each ball and not just roll the cue ball. It also showed me what my weakest shot was. Now, I have to practice those weak shots about 200 times to get my confidence up. Thanks for your great drills. :)
Great video Neils, so many great training videos. Love seeing how much damage can be made on the table when you are willing to put the work in. Can't wait for the next video.
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen yup, this drill will test our cue action, hit soft but smooth from rest position, back swing then followthrough and control of cue ball in one package :) awesome
I'm thankful you show tip position for every shot. Because of misses down the rail with a tip of English, I stopped using English. I recently ran over 100 balls twice using only follow, stun and draw. Yet going back to rotation I have to use English to move the cue ball on the rails. Here you use English on several shots. Are you doing that to reduce throw? Do you use English on all cut shots even when you are not going to the rail? I now only use English for near straight in shots that are slightly off, or if I'm going to the rail and need spin for position.
I just love your videos😄 Your Oscar-worthy acting at the beginning, your cool, slow and sound explanation and your amazing stroke. You are the one why my game play has increased so much the last month. I just lost 2 out of 15 games in my league. Thank you so much! Will you also make a video with the most common mistakes in straight pool? That's the game I still have the most problems. I need 15 admission (is this the correct word btw?) to 60. That's way too much.
Great drill! If I miss 3 or 4 balls in I usually just keep goin to see if I can still finish. It’s a great way to measure success. I’m consistently getting 8 out of 10. I’ve finished it just once. The ball ended a little pass the target zone. But I still counted it. lol Thx Terminator! Keep those vids coming!
Big fan from Bangladesh, following all your instructions and it's really helpful. I'm improving day by day thanks Niels for your support for the beginners
thank you for making this video! This drill can teach me so much about the game. Can anyone explains to me why would Neils use side spins on a lot of the shots even though the cue ball didn't touch the rail? Doesn't side spin only have an effect when the cue ball is in contact with the rials? Many thanks!
Hi Niels and thanks for this video. You do not say what should happen if one leaves the "cueball" out of the zone after the shot, or scratches, or misses completely. Is this the end of the drill and must set it up again from the very start, even no matter how many balls already made correctly, or just either keep on going or put back the last balls? Perhaps based on player level? Dank je wel!
Very nice drill. I already learned 3 things from it: - my cue ball control is good, I never had the cue ball in the wrong place - on straight shots: my stop shot is horrible, I often end up with inadvertently putting some English on it, which with soft long shots often means missing the pocket - on (slightly) cut shots: I always put a little English and I have higher percentage than with straight shots, because there is more difference between a straight with and without English than a cut shot with more or less English. In other words: - when I shoot straight without English and I put some English, I miss - when I want to put some English, I don't miss, whether I put the right amount, a little more or a little less In other other words: putting some English increases the tolerance for error
One thing that I've figured out few months ago and has helped me tremendously, when playing straight long 9-ball, I don't just stop the cue ball, I draw it just a little bit, few centimeters, and since then I don't remember missing such a shot. From my humble opinion (and romance with draw shots) little bit of extra focus that goes into slight draw is what brings those % 👆
@@tesha199 Interesting... I guess that's the same reason: it's difficult to hit the ball where you want to hit it. So if you want to hit it on dead center, you have higher changes of failing. Instead, if you want to add some left or right or if you want to stop it with some low, you may put a little more or a little less of that left/right/low, but it is going to work out better than trying to hit center and put a little left/right/low that will make you miss.
Hey Neils. Great video. But I think an area that needs fixing is the spin you claim to put on the cue ball. In the diagram, it looks like you’re putting maximum spin judging from the position of the red dot. Surely you aren’t doing that with every shot right? The red dot is always on the farthest point of the cue ball diagram.
No it’s only minimal spin. I think if you look closely it’s only about one tip of spin for example on low right or left and little spin when I apply stun. For maximum spin you would have to go more to the middle of the ball cause that’s where all the meat is 😄👍🏼
Great video! Niels, I noticed that on some of those shots you used outside English without touching the rail. Is it because of the skid when shooting that soft? Or to control the cue ball? 😊 thanks
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen thanks for your reply 😊👍 I have been doing it naturally for many years and always thought I’m doing it wrong 😅 so great to hear that
I have a question I hope you will answer when you are shooting one of the shots with let’s. Say left english are you aiming the cue tip at the center of the object ball or what.?
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen Dearl Niels, next week I'm gonna buy pool table Buffalo Dominator for my House. How do you think, is good quality table for home?
Is there a way you can use a better diagram showing where you hit the cue ball? it looks like you're making contact by hitting extreme edge of the cue ball. Is this the case, or are you using like a tip, or a tip and a half of english?
It’s fairly minimal Amounts of spin but in the low side of the cue ball even with one tip of spin you’re already getting close tintje side of the ball. And you see when applying stun and spin the dot stays more to the middle portion of the cue ball. 👍🏼👍🏼😄 but Tnx for the tip!!
@@NielsTheTerminatorFeijen thanks man. My table at home has bigger pockets then the diamond tables I play on in tournaments. I find myself trying to adjust my aim in tournaments and it’s costed me a few games
Do you recommend for C players to also use left/right spin or just a soft draw spot for this drill? Thank you again for another amazing video, one of my favourite pool content creators!
Glad you asked this Ian, I was reading the comments to also ask! Hi Niels, the spin you're using so often here, is it 'gearing' spin so you can e.g. aim down the center of the pocket and not adjust your aim line for impact induced throw? Or is it so you can hit thicker cuts and throw the ball in with spin induced throw? (Or maybe all of the above and it's just all so intuitive now 😂) Anyhow, I'm always trying to use as little spin as possible to up my shot percentage, so very often when I see your cue ball targets I'm like *gulp* scared and Ian's question comes to mind. Thanks so much for making these videos!
@@BenjaminMillam yes i'm aiming slightly thicker and then throw the ball in with the helping english. You can also hit center ball, but because pro's hit some many shots with english it becomes automatic to add that bit of helping english when you not straight in. I asked Efren once, he also said he hits pretty much all his shots with a bit of spin unless straight in or jacked up over a ball. Hope this helps? Greets!
Hi Niels, this drill brings up a question about the tradeoff between speed and spin. Intuitively, it seems one should always try to hit with low speed for a more precise shot, but then lower speed would require a hit further away from the cue ball center which would make the shot more challenging. How do you balance this?
Tnx! Cue ball center is an illusion in that sense cause middle stun is the same as low draw. Same vertical axes. When putting spin on the cue then one has to learn about throw. But for many many pool players most of the shots are played with spin to help position play so that’s the next step maybe for you? 💪🏼😄👍🏼
Hi Neils I notice that you’re using spin “à la Strickland”, is that totally necessary or can one pocket all these shots with 0 spin? The last shot, for example. Also, do you always aim the close to the rail shots a bit thick instead of hitting them in clean? I hear Imran and many other top players mention that you should not attempt to make them clean.
Good point. Yes those shots go in easier off the rail. I use spin on pretty much all my not straight in shots expect when I’m frozen on the rail or jacked up over a ball. It’s called helping English. But not necessary if position is not a must 👍🏼👍🏼😄
