Dodo's Flight School - In GTA3 you can fly using a Dodo which is found in three different places at Francis International Airport. It's not a complex procedure, but you have to stay calm and try a few times.
This video explains how to takeoff and fly with a Dodo.

The tank is best because you can turn the turret behind you to shoot and use it as acceleration while you're in the air

According to R*, the Dodo was never meant to be a flyable airplane. They only put it there as a joke for players to break their heads over trying to make it fly.
It would also explain why it tells you how long you flied, it's that big of an accomplishment to make it fly even briefly.
The name Dodo originates from an extinct bird (since 1660's, or 1680's) which is described to be a clumsy and flightless bird.

And that was due to 9/11 debacle there was a mission where you crashed into a building apparently, that's when they cut the plane and deleted that mission
@@arunkurian9367 the mission is nothing more than a debunked rumor. The Dodo never was fully flyable, even the design document for the game describes it as short winged, or something along the lines
I had no trouble flying. The only thing I had trouble with was not flying over unique stunt jump areas! Any time you did, the game would automatically go into slow motion until you crash-landed.

Once in the air you don't need to accelerate. All you do is keep tilting the nose forward so it doesn't go too high. Once it reaches the max altitude the plane will stay in a autopilot mode till you need to turn.

I sorted that out by myself the PS2 version of GTA III, it was pretty amazing actually. After that I could stay airborne indefinitely at a pretty high altitude and also reach the hidden area from the "betrayal" cutscene at the beginning of the game, which was hidden behind some mountain if I recall correctly. That part of the map had no collisions and I could fly straight through it with no problems.
As soon as you see the sparks, release num6, keep the accelerator and after a few seconds, start tapping num6 in order to keep the plane level with the ground. Everything is written and clearly demonstrated in the video. An easier explanation doesn't exist and no, I can't come to your house and show it live.

NUM9 is the key that raise up the nose of the plane. You don't have to use this key.
NUM6 is the key that keep down the nose of the plane. You need this key.

GTA 3 is my first game and the feels i just got flying all by myself from airport to the first island is unimaginable
If it doens't work, you made something wrong. Go to Menu -> Option -> Controller Setup -> Redifine Controls: Edit the key of the line "Turret / Dodo Down" from NUM6 to an easier key on your notebook. After the edit, follow the instruction in this video tutorial to fly with the Dodo.

I had to practice with it on the runway before I attempted to fly it over the broken Callahan Bridge (I used glitches/tricks to get over to the second and third islands to complete the Portland garage early)

It depends on your skill and practice to stay flying continuously in the dodo,months ago i couldn't fly it,now i can fly easily and wherever i want
Just keep trying,and when you less expect,you're flying like a pro
You can actually fly it for much longer by taking a dive and then going back up. I once flew around the map for quite a while and into the stadium which glitched me back out.

I remember having to figure this out on my own (because we didn't have internet). lol I become quite good! But flying the tanks are the way to go, there's no cap on how high you can fly. Then you can freefall for like 3 hours

I remember I could take it on a full flight around the city and even land it on one of the skyscrapers! But oh man it took a lot of training, and the faster it went the easier it was to lose control. That was on the ps by the way, not on pc. But yeah with adequate training you CAN fly it

The dodo was never meant to fly in GTA III. 9/11 never happened yet.

Isaac McPherson the reason is not 9/11 the real reasons is that some of the buildings don't have roofs and are not solid... that's why you are not meant to fly in LCS too
@@NotSnidge The World Trade Center Twin Towers were never developed for the game. You can look at the earliest maps for Liberty City and you won't see it. Rockstar did make changes after 9/11, like altering the flight path of airplanes so it doesn't appear to fly into buildings, but removing Twin Towers wasn't one of them.
I would recommend watching "Vadim M" 's video about 9/11's effect on GTA 3.
Allegedly there was a mission called "love hurts" that involved flying the dodo into Donald Love building. But I read that years ago online, never looked to deep into it.

I remember the Dodo... That thing was a bitch to fly. I think my longest flight was just over a minute. It was definitely named appropriately. ;D
I was flying the plane like you did, and i was flying perfect, I was flying towards the ghost town, but i flew into the end of the ocean and glitched and myself and the plane disappeared and i can still hear the plane and it toke a little while for me to drown in the water and died, and had to try again. :P
Actually the Rockstar developers never meant the ghost town to be visited by the players. That is why the we lose control upon reaching there.
I can fly forever it's so fun once you learn it it's easy it's one of my Favorite vehicle in The GTA Series. I had over 5000 seconds i just fly the Hole time my record i'm going to see the Remaster soon.
I've gotten so use to this method that I started trying to use it in Gta VC and SA
I hated flying this piece of shit. The Skimmer is a better plane in terms of speed and handling. Also, it can land on water.

I'd advise to install speedometer and keep the flying speed at about 150 kmh (95 mph) in order to get more or less stable control. But avoid greater speeds, because the bigger the speed, the greater the chance to lose control upon a plane.

If you still don't know how to fly but you want to use the dodo, then just use it like its a fancy car on the streets, works fine when on the ground

a few tips
1. Do not use numpad 6 too much. or the dodo will jerk.
2. NEVER use numpad 9, only when you are totally losing velocity.

In GTA III dodo is car. In vice city there is no dodo (except if you fly skimmer to pay and spray you get combination of skimmer and dodo)there is skimmer that is boat. In san andreas planes are planes and that is cool :)

Here's a fun fact: the Dodo is defined as a car that has been apparently "modified" to fly in the game files. A similar thing with the fact that in Vice City the Skimmer is defined as a boat.

Dude the dodo is easy. It’s actually very useful for transporting the dude in the Central Park bathroom to the airport. Park the dodo on the street, get in the with guy, take off and land at the airport. You skip all of the ambushes.
Fortunately there's a conversion for GTA San Andreas that replaces the default map to Liberty City and Vice City maps. That allow's you to flight with San Andreas "winged" dodo over Liberty City.

The GTA San Andreas Dodo is much easier to fly. It's so easy, it's one of my favorite training planes.

Originally should be the game without aircrafts, because on 11 September 2001 the terrorists attacked by planes on WTC. Dodo was compromise, but he had to have cut off the wings and difficult to control. The game was released for PS2 on October 2001 and on May 2002 for PC.

This thing is a royal pain in the arse to fly. I’m doing it like the video shows. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong.
This plane stalls very easily. And it's nose always keeps going up. It happens the most when you try to turn. It's very difficult to turn this plane due to the absence of alerons.
No one deserves to struggle like this. If you have v 1.0 of this game. Just download the Cleo mode.

what do you mean by the key that moves your weight forward? num 9 or num 6 ? none of these worked for me.
Actually it was because it was released shortly after 9/11 and they shortened the wingspan to prevent people from reenacting it.

dodo has special keys when u set dodo on calahan bridge just like in video accelerate dodo with the keys dodo down numb 9 key ...when the tire spark leave the dodo down key numb 9 and pres numb 9 slow slowly dont give chance ur dodo to nose up use numb 9 with accerlate key up key ........just like that ........ up key dodo start moving,,,,,,,,,with numb 9 ,,,,,than leave numb 9 for 2 second than press again num 9 after two second ,,,,,its really work for me :) thanks in advance

Same... analog steering for the Dodo and hold the joystick down until sparks come out and then release joystick and when the Dodo points about 30° incline, hold joystick and make the plane level. I know this because I play on Mobile port (iPad as well) 😉good luck!

How the hell do you keep it IN the air though? I tried the whole 'keep it level' thing but it barely stays up for 15 seconds. I've seen some people try tapping up and down back and forth to do it. Still no luck though.
Doing a playthrough of the Tightened Thrice mod and I've been stuck on *one* of the Dodo required missions for almost 2 hours now.
nah, the reason why the wings are clipped is because the plane wasn't suppose to fly, as applied to the name Dodo.
I supose that Rockstar was unable to program Dodo's behaviour as a plane's one. The same happens with swimming.
The thing that used to piss me off is when I'm flying around the city and accidentally fly over a random unique jump stunt thingy it goes in to that stupid slow motion cinematic view and you can't do anything but purposely crash in order to exit that view lol.
