There are many comments below dissing Martel's victory as unimportant, etc., but what would have happened to Western Europe if Martel had lost? Then many of these commentators would have been jumping up and down about the importance of the battle. Mind, you, being of German background I probably would not be making this post. So hail Martel and the Franks for their victory.

If Martel had lost, the battle would be about just as insignificant in the grand scheme of history and Umayyad expansion. The Umayyad Sultans were at their limit, and had their hands full dealing with the stubborn Christians of the northern peninsula. The greatest effect of Martel losing the battle is no Carolingian Dynasty, which albeit significant, is irrelevant to Muslim advances into Europe at large. It is likely the Umayyad territory in Septimania and Provence would expand a bit, and then simply recede either due to the the complete overextension and exhaustion of Umayyad military capacity, or due to Frankish force of arms.
I for one think Clovis would be amazed at the state of Paris today. When he came across the city (town more like), it was a small Roman civitas in steep decline. Today it’s a bustling metropolitan city that directly owes its success to the groundwork laid by his Merovingian descendants. I’m not sure what you’re implying here (Clovis’ disapproval of Muslim migrants) but Islam didn’t even exist during Clovis’ lifetime and he was by all accounts a pagan turned pragmatic Christian convert so I’m not sure his view point really relates to modern Islam in Europe and/or the Battle of Tours.

Adolf Hittler used to say "Battle of Poitier was the biggest injury made to the german spirit of war, forbiding germans to become muslim and then missed the Opportunity to enter in a ferocius culture of conquest and of slavering other nations"
It speachs loud about the "outcomes" of Martel's great Victory… ;-)

    • @Condobius
      @Condobius 6 лет назад +16

Alpha Alept Hardly, Hitler and his cronies were pseudo-historians at best. I don’t expect them to have an in depth knowledge of Ummayad/Andalusian military capabilities, or the state of Europe during the time period.
All they saw was what the majority of people here are seeing, Muslims win = total conquest, Muslims lose = Europe today. It’s a pretty simplistic view if I may say so.

Muhammad used to trade in slaves and he made slavery legal in Islam. Read Islamic history and you will learn that he looted the caravan of non muslims. The money , glod, jewels, goods , weapons, animals ,men, women and children captured were known as Maal e Ghanimat. He kept 20% share for himself and distributed 80% among his muslim followers accirding to their rank. He also allowed muslim men to keep 4 wives and also have srx with their female slaves. Muslim women were nit allowed to have sex with their male slaves. He promised his musim folliwers 72 virgins in jannat. Hence he always had a very large number of myslim folliwers ready and willing to follow him. He conquered Makkah and destroyed 300 idols inside the Kaaba and converted it into a mosque for Muslims. The he conquered all of Arabia and those who did not covert to Islam were called dhimmus and made to pay a very heavy jazia tax. After him the all of the Kaliphas followed the same rules and conquered Syria,Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco etcetera. Over time dhimmis coverted to Isl to avoid hazia tax and to become first class citizens. Even todsy non muslims are not trested as equals in Islamic nations. Slavery was abolished by Saudi Arabia in 1962 and jazia has also been abolished.

Umayyeds, Had vast empire and they were Nomadic merchant clan one or two generations back at that time, and so ruling Al-Andalus became a challenge as its the farthest corner from the center of power. Many City states of Visigothic spain open up their gates without fight and Tariq ibn Ziyad conquered with ease by negotiation that nobody convert to Islam unwillingly, and one gold coin levied as tribute from all military age males and they keep their positions and titles. Asturias was hard and Mountainous and led by dukes and counts who were unwilling to go without fight, hence tariq didn't have enough manpower for such campaign and he stopped. Muslims had alot of fight with Asturias afterwards and won couple of battles and lost some, but had no intention of conquering these lands, due to terrain that prevents adequate reinforcement in times of rebellion or strife, and Al-Andalus was in impossible to count rebellions and turmoils and majority are caused by discontent or oppertunistic Muslims for power against current leadership of their time.

It had nothing to do with your religion, both empires were devastated with war for hundreds of years and arabian forces were the unexpected surprise factor they could not defend against in those years. You really couldn’t do much damage to the eastern roman empire after the first years of initial contact as evidenced from the fact that arabian history is full of failed attempts to conquer Anatolia and Constantinople until the Turks have arrived. Infact all of your expansion halted in the Battle of Poitiers and you did not have offensive wars for a long time meanwhile a chieftain (later be known as King Pelagius) and a few villagers fought an army of yours in the Battle of Covadonga, finding the Kingdom of Asturias and igniting what will be known as the Reconquista.
Most of your military victories do not belong to the religion of Islam, it belongs to Turkic tribes who were warriors before they(we) converted to your religion,

In our history and our heritage, Charles Hammer is negligible. That war was in France. The Islamic Army was not large, but today's political events have made the media go back to those times and tailor them to their mood. ehhhh not really, when you are the one being invaded, your goal usually isn't to invade the invader but rather to defeat and expel the wannabe invaders. which is what was accomplished. Also, "The Hammer of God" Charles Martell was not the King, only mayor of the palace (like a Hand of the King or a Vizier if you prefer). Meaning his main duty was to take care of the internal management of the realm, not to oversee foreign military campaigns.
Also, after the victory Charles had better things to do like you know... getting rid of the only dynasty to ever rule the nation up to that point and take its place which legally wasn't an easy move to make.

All Umayyad officials, soldiers, governors, military commanders, tacticians etc... come from tribes of the Hejaz and Nejd which we call today Saudi Arabia. They colonized and ruled the world, made Damascus a temporary base for them. Syrian women were harems and concubines for Arabian men to play with. O Prophet (Muhammad SAW)! Urge the believers to fight. If there are twenty steadfast persons amongst you, they will overcome two hundred, and if there be a hundred steadfast persons they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve, because they (the disbelievers) are people who do not understand. (Quran 8:65)
As long as all Muslims unite and are faithful, we’ll always win! But sadly we are more divided than ever and fighting each other.
By the way when it says “Urge the believers to fight” it doesn’t mean fight any disbeliever you see, it seems you fight them when you meet them on the battlefield. Because people usually get scared in battle so the verse is trying to increase the morale of the Muslims.
Anyway, old Islamic Caliphates used to be so powerful, religious, and beautiful. But if you look now...

The Quran says in two places that other religions sometimes count as believers, thus wars with Christians are sometimes destined to fail.
Muslims are delusional if they think God, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, etc. are never going to side with a Christian or Jewish nation.
