    You know I always wanted an explanation of how the car design affected the physics. And after all these years I finally get an answer (sort of). Interestingly enough I never used the Turbo Cart Chassis.

    11:00 OH the borders represent the theme each race is associated with!
    Blue for Space
    Grey for Castle
    Tan for Adventurers
    Yellow for Pirates
    which has some weird implications for Rocket Racer from the 1999 game but still

      Very observant! I hadn't considered that connection. I think you might be right.
      Here is some random trivia... In the demo version of LR the levels have different coloured borders. They must have decided to swap them very late in development.

    I've played this game since I was a child, I still have my 1999 disc on my shelf in its original jewel case, and somehow I'm learning about mechanics I never even thought of before. I didn't even know this game had a weight system for the various chassis. I do remember using snap slides but never even thought of it as an actual mechanic, though the super warps are definitely something I've never seen before.
    Very informative video, I'm not a speedrunner at all but it's great to have a video that explains a lot of stuff about one of my most beloved games of all time.

      @@nonAehT You and I both! If you remember what the CD and case looks like that's one way to tell. The community still is debating about how brick weight works.
      I only discovered about a month ago that you can weight a vehicle towards the front or back. You can find my new WR on the desert track where I manipulate the cars weight to pull back and clip into the ground for a great boost off of the start line! It's an awesome game to speedrun

    I remember playing this game a lot on the Nintendo 64 when I was in elementary school. To be poetic, I even decided to walk through the single player mode on the morning before my last day at high school. I finished the single player tournament within about 30 minutes. I didn't realize that I just speedran it.
    I also remember an odd bug in Knightmare-Athon where if you start a warp in the final section with the floating ship, the warp ends where you just started. I remember watching this bug in action while messing around in 2 player mode. I assume it's the ship causing it, but that's just me being a bit salty.

      @@Homerboy44 oh interesting! I don't know about that warp one. I'll try it out. I'm hoping that with the warp going past the start line maybe a lap skip glitch can activate or something.
      I played the game to death as a kid and picked it up again and started speedrunning about 20 years later. It's an amazing game but definitely stuff to play for newcomers today!

    • @Homerboy44
      @Homerboy44 19 дней назад +2

      @@vincentauronward347 I forgot to state that the warp bug I mentioned isn't a lap skip, the warp simply stalls there. I am certain I have lost a couple races over it. It's worth mentioning, but not worth speedrunning over. XD
      This is on the Nintendo 64 version, so I am not sure if this bug occurs on either PC version.

    why not just....use the brick before picking the next one up to avoid contamination?

    • @vincentauronward347
      @vincentauronward347  23 дня назад +2

      @@vigigamehacker123 There are a couple of reasons. The example from the video is Knoghtmare-athon where you want to deliberately contaminate a red brick with a blue one. This is because NPCs will pick this up and immediately use the shield no matter who is around them where as they will not use the red brick unless someone drives in front of them. This means they would then drive into the green brick at.the start line with no power up in their inventory and not contaminate it like they would if they had the red brick.
      The second for example (Adventure Temple Trail) when you warp directly into a white brick to pick it up as you enter the warp animation. If you then drive into a blue or red brick as you exit warp then it means that you will be wasting the white brick that you deliberately picked up while entering warp. We do our best to avoid picking up these blue and red bricks as we leave warp but it can be extremely difficult at high speeds and requires a consistent setup to avoid doing so.
      Thanks for watching the video!

    I'm curious what other downsides there are to using the N64 version minus of course the lack of access to super slides.

    • @griill
      @griill 4 дня назад

      N64 version is actually very similar to 2001 PC version. So while there are obviously still differences to 99 version, N64 version should (technically) be viable for speedrunning. Through my own TASing of the N64 version, I've noticed more input lag compared to PC version.
      Also, you should be able to super slide by pressing A+B+R simultaneously and turning.
