Explore the Unforgettable Mausoleum of the Soveja Heroes of Romania

The Soveja Mausoleum and Museum is a county museum in Dragosloveni. This mausoleum was erected in 1929, in memory of those who fell in the battles of 1916 - 1918. It houses the bones of Romanian and Russian soldiers in crypts. The names of those identified were inscribed on the marble slabs in front of the crypts. On the west side is the common grave (the ossuary), which houses 2,000 bones. The monument has the appearance of a stone fortress. In a building located behind the mausoleum, a museum was set up in which photo-documentary material and weapons used by Romanian soldiers during the battles of the First World War were exhibited
The work of the architect George Cristinel, the construction of the Mausoleum, whose foundation stone was laid on the initiative of the "War Widows" and "Cult of Heroes" Society in 1923, lasted until 1928, when the niches were covered with marble slabs the names of the heroes and was inaugurated in 1929.
The mausoleum looks like a stone fortress, with a cross-shaped plan and a dome-shaped roof. Stone and marble were used in its construction. Inside are the crypts in which 528 Romanians, Russians, Germans, Austrians and Hungarians were reburied. In front of the crypts, marble slabs were mounted on which the names of the buried were inscribed. The ossuary houses the remains of 1,612 unidentified soldiers. The number of German soldiers commemorated is 279, buried in 1917.
