Great vid as usual, I think the last point about focusing more on the creative and meaningful side to your paintings is what differentiates a technically great artist from a professional artist.

Great video- I want one of those hats now. I've gotten a lot more passionate recently by stopping the "shoulds" and focusing on what I want to do that day. Incidentally, I end up doing the "shoulds" because I want to make my work better, not because I have to

Hope to find your beautiful paintings in an art museum some day. I admire your level of research and perseverance for each project. The heart you put into your work can be really felt. Congrats for all you're doing : the art, the amazing teaching and the cool hats wearing. It's been 4 days since I discovered your YTB channel and I can't stop watching your videos. Cheers, from an early beginer french artist of 29yo.

Personally I think it's because of the overal value structure combined with the blue/purpleish color sheme. Compared to the rest of your portfolio wich mostly concists of earthy neutral tones that our eyes observe maybe almost everyday. This piece pops out like a bright purple berry showing off in the middle of a greenish bush waiting to catch the eye of a bird.

    What a wonderful video!
Passing by to thank you for convincing me to take art much more seriously. I'm not one of your formal students, but I follow your channel with the same fidelity and purpose. Your teaching is perfect and thanks to you I'm studying hard with a schedule of all the fundamentals to learn concept art at a professional level. My goal is to get to that level in three or four years. I don't know if it's possible, but I'll try and take it very seriously. Thank you, Professor Edlin! Kisses from Brazil!

If you feel like your grinding just switch gears, paint something new, a different way. Try a new technique or follow a different type of artist.

Thank you for this video Tyler! This was really helpful to me, i like all the mindful tips and how honest you are about the struggles and how you navigate the process you go through about getting to the finished result. I really like these types of videos and i hope you continue making these because there is so much out there about technical processes but not enough about the psychology and honesty of what struggles an artist goes through daily in finding motivation and passion to create and continue and grow as an artist. I think it's so important to adopt a helpful mindset that will get you through all challenging projects.

Hello Tyler, new subscriber here, I wonder if you make thumbnails for the composition/angle views or even how do you explore on creating a good planning on (for example) this piece. or maybe even color thumbs? I'm an art student and this is kind of how we were taught, that part when you mentioned dont be afraid to fail really hits me because we use to explore so many shots but then another challenge comes up (like the colors, composition) Your opinion would be much appreciated!

    • @TylerEdlin84

I propose a simple answer...pink + snow is catnip. I don't know why, but pink seems to get more eyeballs and snow seems to get more eyeballs and put them together, pow.

While I completely agree with the point of loving the process and of making art that is authentic to you, I don't think getting followers or views is the inevitable "reward" of doing that. I'd say those are two separate paths you can go down. If the things you like to do just so happen to be what's trendy/popular then you'll be in luck with the algorithms. If not then one should be content to not have a following online. Especially when social media, by design, pushes users and content towards homogeny.

Pope Suavecito XII I agree it’s not always the case. This was one observation to make a case for the video. This was about finding happiness in what you enjoy.
