I never knew that, but it makes sense. Usually she just opens her mouth and it comes out, but here you can tell she's pushing a little and using her body more to get the pitch right. Geeze she's amazing.
Yesss! Seeing Alex sing Mama Will Provide in person was like, the best moment of my entire life. Also I suggest Denée Benton's performances from Great Comet! The way she sings in No One Else and Nastasha and Pierre, she puts so much emotion into such a light sound it's stunning
I saw her live on Broadway. I was in the back row and her voice moved everyone in the theatre. We were all crying. We were all moved. She not only has the voice, but the soul and presence that just moves everyone who hears her. Even in the back row it felt like she was singing right to me.
My partner and I used to work on cruise ships, we docked in New York and went to a Matinee performance of the Color Purple and people were giving a standing ovation half way through this song! At a matinée!!! We were SOBBING!!!! It was our first EVER broadway show and it will forever be in our hearts!!!
I understand that you didn’t want to show, but there is something so special about what you posted on tik tok about the part you edited out in the beginning. Never be afraid to be vulnerable with all us! We have all been there! Love your reaction! ❤️

I had the pleasure of seeing her perform this when she was in it on broadway...I have never been to a performance where a standing ovation was given in the middle of a show. It went on for minutes and she just stood there...taking it all in, never breaking character. She. Is. Amazing. Thank you for this reaction❤️
Cynthia Erivo's voice is a gift from the gods. She will transport you to another world every time. She was Aretha and her voice took you there. In"The Color Purple" she you wept when she sang. The beauty of her voice allows you to feel every emotion of her character and identify those same feelings within you.
If you haven't already seen videos of her doing this on broadway, you have to. It's absolutely spectacular and on the final "and i'm here" she is bent over, belts it out, and absolutely kills it. She is truly one of the greats.

It's Rachelle Ann Go, Jasmine Cephas Jones (Hamilton OBC Peggy/Maria), and Renee (I'm sorry I can't get the accent on some letters. The second e in Renee has a / on top) Elise Goldsberry (Hamilton OBC Angelica)! But omg I totally agree with all the ones you listed. All performers on Broadway have immense talent!
if you haven’t see it look up “eva noblezada deva medley” and watch the seven minute one! one of my favorite videos of all time, and i think you’d really love it!
Serena, you're amazing! I was trying to write out all the ones I knew and saw your list! :) I miss being around a theater community and around talented people. Just found this channel because I'm looking for a community to be inspired to get back into theater for fun and, possibly, for a career change. I know it's something I've always wanted to do with my life, but it's hard when you don't see roles for BIPOC. In The Heights did that for me and I think I may have a shot at that or Hamilton in the future. I need to get back into classes after my ten year performing hiatus. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for writing it out. Rant over. LOL
Black singers and song suggestions below! Audra McDonald (daddy’s son, ragtime), Brian stokes mitchell (make them hear you or his riffs in getting ready rag, ragtime) Norm Lewis (anything he’s done e.g wild party Eddie and mae, devil you know in side show or confrontation in Les mis) Jennifer Hudson (where I’ve been, hairspray or and I am telling you, Dreamgirls), Jennifer Halliday (performance at the Tony awards I.e best ever Tony award performance), melba Moore (I’ve got love, Purlie), billy Porter (beauty school dropout, grease - the section where he goes ‘you sit there like a slob’ into ‘you cannot get a job’ is EVERYTHING), Alex newell (mamma will provide, once on this island), lillias white (brotherhood of man, how to succeed - WHAT A POWERHOUSE VOICE)
She has talent, the skill, the technique, the range, the control, and most of all she has the ability to put her emotion into it… this is something that you can not teach anyone.. she has a gift.. her voice is a gift… it overwhelms me every time.
Cynthia Erivo is magical. I saw her perform this live on Broadway in 2016, which was my introduction to her. Incredible tears. During this particular performance, she had a cold and a fever over 100, had already performed the song live twice on Broadway that day, and was training for a half marathon 3 hours per day. Just Incredible 💜💜💜💜
Will you please react to Amber Riley's performance of And I Am Telling You (I'm Not Going) at the Olivier Awards?? She won Best Actress in a Musical, and deservedly so. Her performance is incredible and the best performance of that song, IMO.
Stage presence, emotion, technique, range, humbleness, passion... Cynthia Erivo really has is it all. Also, thank you for being apart of the change that is happening right now by using your platform and sharing love!
I'm here after your reaction of Demi's dancing with the devil music video, since you pointed out how it's pretty similar with yellow shirt and all. It actually is ! Don't ever feel ashamed because of your emotions. You are beautiful. Love from France.
@@Christfollower06 Yes ! I get why she felt the need to cut that moment out of the video, for privacy, but I hope she knows there's no shame in feeling a little sad for the people that we miss. As long as we smile for them too.
This couldn't have been easy to film or post, thank you so much for powering through and sharing with us. I hope you got some comfort from this song 💙 And thank you for actively seeking to amplify BIPOC voices!! So many people are going to see your videos and know because of the performers in them that there is a place for them in this industry, and that is such a beautiful, vital thing!
The colour purple makes me feel blue but I love it so much and the soundtrack wow the songs are so good and this song in particular is my favorite and my favorite colour is purple so ye 😂 love this musical so much
I LOVE THIS SONG!! I wish I could sing it at least half as good as Cynthia does. She’s amazing!!!!! The power she has in her singing made me sob the first time I heard her sing this.
I just watched this again after your reaction to Demi Lovato's Dancing with the Devil and now I understood your reaction to when she sang "I've got my Sister..." part and why you paused it. I hope that better days will come for you soon, Hannah. May comfort and peace be with you always! 🙏
Some of my favourite WOC in musical theatre: Eva Noblezada, Philippa Soo, Lea Salonga, Audra McDonald, and (especially) Denee Benton (I love her in Great Comet--her No One Else is incredible)
I genuinely have never clicked a video so quickly. Thank you for doing this. This song is always a treat. Also lol it's the Oprah edited one. Pure perfection.
I was privileged to have seen her live several years ago and she was amazing! I love your reactions! You're so sweet and articulate, I don't understand much about music but I'd love to learn more😊
By far, Cynthia Erivo is one of my most favorite singers and performers of recent years!! Just on technique alone, she's so so secure with her instrument and she knows her voice so well. But technique aside, she knows exactly what story to tell in everything I've seen her sing and she tells it with such conviction and such honesty. She's one of those performers that connects so easily to whoever listens. AND I LOVE how you highlighted, in my opinion, the most important line in the song and see how important the message of this song is. "I believe I have inside of me, everything that I need to live a BOUNTIFUL life." Cynthia just nails the delivery of this line so perfectly. I remember first watching this performance bawling my eyes out. I'm right there with you. I just found your channel but I'm looking forward to more reaction videos featuring POC!
4:34 I’ve never heard of her before. Just trying to get into some free vocal training late in life but I literally just dropped my phone and walk away for a second shaking my head for a second at this point in the song. My Goodness! What talent!!
Of all the reactions I have seen, yours was the best. That girl's voice commands you to cry! I felt every note, every run along with the orchestration is overwhelming in the best way ever!! I felt the way you did!
Denee Benton and Audra McDonald are both INCREDIBLE choices! Also, Eva and Phillipa. WAIT WHAT IF YOUR REVIEWED FIRST BURN!!?! That has so many talented women of LOTS of backgrounds
Blessed and grateful to have heard Cynthia sing this live during the revival of the Color Purple on Broadway. Literally had chills from the performance.
I don’t think i have heard of Cynthia until Hannah mentioned her on her channel then seeing her as the fairy godmother in the live action Pinocchio! 😱she’s very talented 💜💜
Can you react to Cynthia's performance of Stand Up at the Oscars? Also, you can search for Norm Lewis; either as Javert in Les Miz, or as Phantom in Phantom of the Opera. ALSO, The Fates from Hadestown!!
Please make a reaction to a young, very popular singer in world. Videos from this singer collect hundreds of millions of views. Diana Ankudinova is now only 17 years old. She has a very unique, very deep, clear voice. Dr. Marc Reynolds (Voice Teacher, Stage Director, Performance Coach and Consultant, and Acting Coach) said about the performance of this girl: Really really exceptional! Even if you ignore her age, even is she was 10, 20, 30 years older, this is still a really exceptional performer here that we're seeing. But at her age, unbelievable. Really really exceptional! Absolutely gorgeous! And again, not just because of her voice, because her performing, watching how nuanced and engaging her performance is. Ah, it's just so stunning. It's absolutely amazing.
Omg yessss you did it!!! I was so excited for this 😍😍 if you want another Cynthia performance to react to PLEASEEE do her performance from the Oscars this year!! It’s her own song and it’s one of the most amazing performances I’ve seen in a very long time
Thank you for this reaction! Cyntiha is a Queen! Please do more videos with her! Some really good examples are: "stand up" at the Oscar, or her duets with Shoshana Bean " I did something bad"(the live virsion) or their "when you belive" prformance! Another great singer is Amber Riley consider reacting to her singing " And I'm telling you" she preformed it at the Olivé awards
Lol I don’t know why this is the only video of this performance. The Oprah clips are so funny. 😂 Love Cynthia Erivo so much. What an incredibly talented goddess. 🖤
Bravo for this awesome reaction and for wanting diversity. It is so important we embrace art from all walks of life. We have so many beautiful artists around the world and yes people of color get overlooked many times unfortunately. We have so much to offer this world and I thank you for recognizing the need to shine more light.
I saw the amazing Cynthia Erivo sing this song live in TCP!! I'm telling you, it was one of the most incredible experiences ever!! If it were still running on Broadway--and we weren't on lockdown--I would see it over and over and over again!! Didn't have that feeling with Wicked.
I love, love, love the fact that you're able to technically explain how the singers are executing AND that you have an awesome instrument to duplicate it! My suggestions for singers for you to showcase (some you have already) are Keke Wyatt, Yolanda Adams, Jazmine Sullivan, Kim Burrell (specifically, the song Holy Spirit). Thanks Hannah! Love you to pieces!
I’m not sure if someone has already suggested listening to Ciara Renée, but I absolutely love her voice. She was incredible as Elsa in Frozen the Musical.
I love the version when she’s in her last performance on stage. “Color Purple Lover” has a video, just her and the sound bouncing off the walls of the theater. She. Is. A. Goddess.
Patina Miller in Pippin and Sister Act. Rema Webb is a Broadway Veteran and in a bunch of featured ensemble roles on Broadway but she has an amazing instrument. She did the Tony performance of Violet and was one of the 3 church ladies in Color Purple. My fellow CCM MT schoolmate Alysha Deslorieux was in Hamilton and Once On This Island and has an unbelievable voice. There are some videos of her available. Also there are a bunch of incredible Black Understudies and Replacements on Broadway including Aisha Jackson as Anna in Frozen, Britney Johnson as Galinda in Wicked, and Ashley De La Rosa as Regina George in Mean Girls
BRANDY NORWOOD !!!!!! Her live version of her song "Without You" will shake you to your core. She was also Roxie Hart on Broadway a couple of years ago
If you haven't yet, you should do a video on Christopher Jackson singing One Last Time, Leslie Odom Jr singing Wait For It, Phillipa Soo singing Burn or Reneé Elise Goldsberry singing Satisfied all from Hamilton. They're all incredible people of color who are excellent actors and singers.
Please react to Brittney Johnson, the first black actress to play Glinda in Wicked! She was also the first black actress to play both Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables (and the first woman ever to play both roles in one day). She has such a gorgeous voice and is such a wonderful example of black excellence in musical theatre!
Can we talk about how Cynthia had a FEVER WHILE SINGING THIS AND ABSOLUTELY SLAYED LIFE!!???! HOW??!
What??? I’ve never heard that. I’m even more blown away. Holy moly. How’d you hear that?

I don’t think i have heard of Cynthia until Hannah mentioned her on her channel then seeing her as the fairy godmother in the live action Pinocchio! 😱she’s very talented 💜💜
Ok I can’t even with this. Tears from the jump. What a song. What a voice. ❤️
Dr. Marc Reynolds (Voice Teacher, Stage Director, Performance Coach and Consultant, and Acting Coach) said about the performance of this girl:
Really really exceptional!

She is a vocal queen. ❤
She sings even in our hearts. 😇
Do some on Brooke Simpson plss, she will pour her everything in any song. It just sends me chills.
Wow, so effortless. I love this, thank you for featuring her!
Another great singer is Amber Riley consider reacting to her singing " And I'm telling you" she preformed it at the Olivé awards
had the pleasure of living this live! we were all on our feet
I saw this movie in the 80s and I still remember being drawn to it and this song still Makes me cry. ❤️❤️
also PLEASE DO A VIDEO REACTING TO HEATHER HEADLEY SINGING EASY AS LIFE. or ANY audra macdonald performance.
I second this
YES
audra is my queen
Lol I don’t know why this is the only video of this performance. The Oprah clips are so funny. 😂 Love Cynthia Erivo so much. What an incredibly talented goddess. 🖤
New subscriber. Cynthia is so talented. She's our home girl 🇳🇬🇬🇧
Bravo for this awesome reaction and for wanting diversity. It is so important we embrace art from all walks of life. We have so many beautiful artists around the world and yes people of color get overlooked many times unfortunately. We have so much to offer this world and I thank you for recognizing the need to shine more light.
She is such a powerful, captivating singer ❤️👌🏻
There is so so so many Cynthia Erivo performances I would watch!!!
Aah I've been hoping you'll do this!! I think I've watched her various performances of this song about 300 times.
YESSSS !!!!!! I LOVE CYNTHIA SM AND I LOVE THIS CHANNEL SM😩😩😩
Please react to her singing “Still Hurting!” Omg
If you haven't yet, you should do a video on Christopher Jackson singing One Last Time, Leslie Odom Jr singing Wait For It, Phillipa Soo singing Burn or Reneé Elise Goldsberry singing Satisfied all from Hamilton. They're all incredible people of color who are excellent actors and singers.
im crying too wow this song always gets me
hannah has to bless us with cynthia erivo after we had to endure cameron dallas
Please react to Brittney Johnson, the first black actress to play Glinda in Wicked! She was also the first black actress to play both Eponine and Fantine in Les Miserables (and the first woman ever to play both roles in one day). She has such a gorgeous voice and is such a wonderful example of black excellence in musical theatre!
She’s next on my list! I saw a clip of her as Glinda on tiktok and I could NOT believe how incredible she is!!!
@@HannahBayles I'm so glad to hear it! I can't wait to see your reaction! She's incredible!!
She was also sick and had a fever doing this! Amazing!
