Thanks so much for all of your kind comments. I haven't seen my Mom in over a year because...covid. All I know is that she is well and will be turning 90 in August. Wish I could do so much more for her. Wish I could be with her. :(
This is such a lovely video - bitter sweet. Your mom is so happy and appreciative of your gift! Alzheimer's is such a horrible disease. But when you share moments like these with others who are watching their loved ones go through this, it shows such a special bond. God bless you and your sweet mom!
This was so heartwarming! I'm thinking of all my former patients on the Alzheimer's unit and who could have benefitted from one of these. I might have to make a few and stop by my old workplace to drop some off. Thank you for sharing! She looks so excited to play with it and she can show her baby all of the animals to play with. Love it.
My Mom is finally free from this prison called Alzheimer's. She left us on Dec. 3rd, 2023 at the age of 92. At the end, she'd lost all speech and mobility. She could only tap her hands on her lap. I'm sad for me but happy for her. It was quite the long and winding road. Til we meet again. :(
I work in a speech clinic that serves both adults and children and was looking for alternatives for sensory fidgets when I found your video. What a lovely daughter you are, and how sweet your mom is! I think a blanket like this would really be a blessing for so many of our clients. I will share the idea with my boss.
I made a fidget blanket, lap size, for my Aunt about 8 months before she passed away. My Uncle said it was her favorite thing. She would not let anyone take it from her. So they had to gently take it out of her hands while she was sleeping to be able to wash it. After her death my Uncle donated it to the "dementia" ward at a local center.
Your mom is absolutely precious! My mom passed away 8 months ago from a combination of Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure. I only wish I’d known about these fidget quilts back then as my mom fidgeted with EVERYTHING (including pulling her oxygen off...). Thank you for sharing this...it brought back memories for me.
Thank you so much! My Mom forgets many words on some days and substitutes whatever other words she can muster from her now limited inventory. I'm so sorry about your Dad not being able to finish a sentence. I can't even begin to imagine how frustrated they must feel when they can't express themselves. Such an ugly thing, this Alzheimer's.
Your Momma is the sweetest lady!! I loved your video very much! Your so lucky to be able to talk to her. My dad has Alzheimer's and he gets so frustrated not able to finish a sentence. I want to make one of these quilts for him.
i found this looking for fidget crochet tutorials. she seems like such a wonderful lady, she reminds me of my grandma when she was doing much better many years ago. i hope you can see her soon. dementia is a very hard thing for the person experiencing it and the family. i’m sending you so much love.
I wish we would have had something like this for my dads wife who had dementia. Such a simple thing that can bring so much joy. She would have loved it. Your mother is darling and so appreciative. 💕. Bless her.
Love this she's seems very special this would of been perfect for my mom.when she was suffering with dementia and Parkinson's 😓 God-bless Thank you for sharing
Thanks Muriel. Nope, last saw her February, 2020. Every time the home she's in announces they are now covid free, another staff member tests positive, locking it all down again. :(
I love it My grandma has Alzheimer and i'm wanting to make her one of these blankets and the one you have made has gave me so many Your mom is the cutest thing I've ever seen as well :D
Thank you for your kind thoughts. Hope your Grandma will love the blanket you make for her. Also, try bringing her a bag of many different colored socks and ask her to help you sort them. :)
I understand. That was a fear of mine; that she'd become mean and aggressive, as many with dementia do. Instead, this is the happiest and nicest she's ever been in her life. I got lucky. lol
Thank you! Unfortunately, she hides it in her closet so "nobody will steal it." I take it out each time I visit and she hides it again when I leave. So sad....
Aww bless her heart. The blanket bought her so much pleasure x
This is so sweet. That moment she realises the blanket is hers to keep. What a wonderful lady.
I felt sad. How pure she is and happy with the blanket. Reminded me of my grandmother

My mother has Dementia/Alzheirmers and this fidget quilt you made is amazing. Where did you find your embellishments?
Thank you! Just gathered things from around the house, dollar store, Walmart and Chinese Mall. Ordered the blanket itself online.
💕💕
Pleasantly confused. My mom is mean as hell lol.

@@Speedmo But she knows it is there, so in a sense she is treasuring it. She may use it in the future. I wonder how she is doing now?
This is sweet. I just lost my great aunt to Alzheimer’s
I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your Aunt. It's a terrible disease that robs us of loved ones, long before they pass away. :(
Dee Lee Thanks they haven’t told her husband and he has it as well and they aren’t gonna tell him
