    Hello sir! Thank you for taking the time and sharing this video. I’m wondering did you put everything back together before you test drive it? I’m wondering if I can test drive it without putting the covers so I can be sure everything works before getting all together.

    Hi im hopefully about to tackle this job on my 2002 c220cdi (w203) which is stuck in nuetral will sort of half go into drive (lever wont go right back into drive position but does engage drive just allowing the car to be driven seemingly ok forwards) but lever wont go past nuetral into either reverse or park, garage disconnected the mechanism that means i can remove the key but as they wont fit second hand parts are quoting over £1000+vat to replace shifter! So as a very novice diy mechanic i am going to watch your vid a good few more times before i attempt this! Thanks for making the vid man, wish me luck!😄🤞

      Am now nearly halfway through replacing the shifter as in the vid but now i am realising your instructional video leaves out some major info e.g. not showing any or even a tip or two on removing the old one and secondly it seems the new shifter just magically connects itself to the shifter rod and refits the c clip as it shows 🧚‍♀️ as if by magic its done! Ill try it...."abracadabra" no didnt work please tell me the magic word!🙏😊

      @@MaxReviewss i've managed to do it thanks! I just had a good look at how the old one connected underneath and took photos to makevcertain i put the new one back same( i did as u suggested and tied a length of fishing line round it in case i droppec it too!) I was led to believe it wouldnt require reprogramming or whatever on a 2002 model but although it does work it is doing odd things when ignition is on (not moving past nuetral) but does fine when ignition is off, also said P on dash whilst i was driving but wouldnt move up the auto gears like stuck in bottom gear pulled over turned it off and it was fine when i started it again and All worked as it should! Wierd!?

      After gear shifter replacement, there should be no issues. Also, clear the fault codes and reset the transmission.

    HI... AS soon as Your gears gets stuck on D or N & you cannot remove the key, I suggest you remove the small key inside your ignition key cover to open & close your car manually, lock it while battery is connected & its easier later. This is very important to do when you are unable to remove the key from your ignition & cover that area so noone sees a key there & also DISCONECT THE NEGATIVE wire ONLY from the Battery in the back inside your trunk. I CHANGED my Gear Shifter Floor Assembly ( yellow box) with a mechanic. I DID NOT HAVE TO TAKE IN TO THE DEALER TO GET IT RE- PROGRAM. Dealer wanted $675 for the box. I went to a Junkyard & paid $20 & it's working perfectly. Mechanic lost the C CLIP to the transmission & I bought an original MB one at Pelican Parts online for $5 they had 7 left. I fixed car before part arrived ( it arrived fast btw I recommend them online ), so I used the one from the Junkyard. Make sure you get the screws with part because we didn't & ended up using old screws & it was a bit short, but it still worked. I advise taking pictures or videos before you take it all out so you know where everything goes. Gently is the main thing when taking this apart. A few small plastic broke. We still have one plug & no clue where it plugs into. It's small. So its still loose. My problem was that the Gear Shifter would only go to D & N & I could not park it or take the key out. We did remove the Concil it was the only way. Mechanic did lift the car with a jack to take shift car manually to make sure it was not the transmission. Luckily, it was not. He put it in park manually while I found the part. I could not remove the key. Also, make sure you photograph & keep all your original screws. Many mechanics steal these screws & replace them with cheap one. The screws are like gold when it's the original. Unfortunately, mine got switched from the Black Cover part (shield) underneath the car. I am pretty upset about it. Getting unknown mechanics to work on our cars is risky. I always try to do it all myself for this reason & I usually do with RUclips. I just came here to see where that small plug goes into. The shifter is loose, so I may have to take the top part off & redo that area with correct screws etc. Also, the concil did not touch together with the ask tray as it did before. Good Luck! It looks easy here but it's not as easy as it looks. We also had to use 2 pieces of metal hanger wires to line up the 2 back screws on floor of concil to get them inside the hole. It was not centered & that is why the concil did not reach the ashtray all the way & he left it that way. Very frustrating, but I refuse to pay dealer prices. They sell the floor shifter online. At the Junkyard I got 180 days warranty by paying $6. Good Luck! Great Video in putting this back gently. That is the key & using original Mercedes Benz screws. I hope my comment helps a bit. :)

  • @danieltrubacom

    I wanted to ask, since I can't find it anywhere locally, does anyone have any idea about where can I buy this mechanism used/new? Central Europe. Also I wasn't able to find this component by part number :/
    Essentially, my problem is as follows:
    Often, when I press the brake pedal to shift from park to anything else, all is good. But when I want to change gears then, from neutral to reverse, I can't do it with brake pedal pressed. I need to let loose of it to be able to change to reverse. From reverse to Park it goes normally with brake pedal pressed. From neutral to Drive is also without problem. However i notice, whenever this problem happens, my parking sensors no longer activate (they work normally until this issue occurs).

      @danieltrubacom 2 года назад +1

      @@MaxReviewss Thanks for the answer! I've checked you other channel previously as well, mostly regarding the shifter change.
      However, I thought about asking one more question. About the transmission, what doesn't let me sleep.
      Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. To clarify, sometimes y everything works as it's supposed to. Parking sensors load properly, N->R gears can be changed while I press brake pedal, I can manually change shifts via shifter knob (+-)... And then sometimes none of the above work. I can change the gears from N to D but without pressing brake(or very gently tapping it).
      Do you have any idea if there's a sensor underneath the brake pedal (except for brake lights) that is tied to the transmission/shifting as well?
      Or do you reckon cleaning the current trans shifter (connections, re-heat PCB contacts..) and the optics inside will do the trick? Since once all is good, then all of the sudden it screws up. The car drives and shifts normally, just the problems I've mentioned occur.

    • @MaxReviewss
      @MaxReviewss  2 года назад

      @@danieltrubacom Hi Dan, my suggestion is to scan the transmission for the faults, you will probably profit in long term if you buy yourself a decent scanner... this might be another simple fix and again shifter can cause all that too, repairing the shifter was not my cup of tea as used parts were available for me.

    • @danieltrubacom
      @danieltrubacom 2 года назад +1

      @@MaxReviewss Heya Max,
      yes I've been in the mechanic's shop for diagnostics, a proper one. It has thrown 2 errors. The point is that they aren't reoccurring. Since sometimes all is good and sometimes those problems happen, it leads me to believe that the shifter is good, but there's most likely some electrical fault happening. Like bad connection. Not sure though. I will try to clean all contact and maybe even demount the shifter and try to re-heat it with heater gun to fix any potential microfractures in solder joints. If that doesn't work then I'll probably buy a new shifter. I've got an offer to get a used but working one for around 130$ so I'm thinking of taking it anyways.
      If I succeed anyhow, I'll let you know.
      By the way, would you like me to send you the errors/codes, that popped up?

    • @danieltrubacom
      @danieltrubacom 2 года назад

      @@MaxReviewss Greetings Max, I have an update.
      I fixed it. I ordered new shifter module only to find out (while replacing) that the mistake was a damn return Spring/mechanism. While pressing brake to shift from P to R/ N to R, there is a control rod that without activation won't allow you to change gears. There is also return mechanism of said rod. Mine was broken. Don't know exactly why yet (about to disassemble the whole thing). But because of that, even though the computer knew which gear the car was in (it drove, but I couldn't manually change speeds - sequential) and park sensors didn't work. Now everything works perfectly. I'd bet it's a return spring inside of the mechanism.
