I would genuinely enjoy a walk with this man. I would imagine he likes to walk alone. A good person, by all accounts.
Leen Hintjens He walks alone because he is full of 💩 and those who know him have zero respect for him.
Well then you wouldn't be able to walk with him he wouldn't want you to walk with him if you think he likes to walk alone
I have walked and spent time with him on different occassions, a total pleasure and a great learning experience for me. I am no Tory by any stretch of the imagination (He knows that) but I would say he is a totally, decent human being. His Dad was a real character and a smashing guy too in different ways.
Read his books...
That awkward moment when you realise you're in the wrong party.
We had that happen on Canada with former Ontario Premier Bob Rae.
Much as I might disagree with RS about different things, he is that most unusual (and worthwhile) of creatures - an honest and decent politician.
He's also bright and clever.
No wonder his colleagues hate him.
Boviss1 unfortunately you are 100% correct. A gentleman. Isn’t that what’s needed?
@@niallmartin9063 Yes it is. Unfortunately, the 2nd and 3rd rate have the traction these days.
The issues around Brexit are complex.
Few voters have a real grasp of what the policies being touted actually mean.
They can't know that the politicians dont know whats really at stake either.
Theyre selling them a nostalgia for Dear Old England.
Actually theyre selling us out.
I loved the Esther McVey quote - We survived the Black Death and we can survive 'No Deal' too!
It should be a crime to be stupid and ignorant - and a politician too.
But no.
It's the primrose path. Add on a little bit of corruption and mendacity and the sky's the limit.
I know. He's my local MP and I've sent him the occasional feisty missive (because there are lots of ways he's not representing what I care about). He's always got back in touch and been very polite, and reasonable, and has clearly read what I sent him.
The thing about Rory Stewart - he absolutely believes what he's saying. There's nothing devious or calculating about him.
@@niallmartin9063 niall he's x mi6 he was one of the mi6 agent who said iraq had weapons of mass destruction he and other mi6 agent's also harrased dr david kelly to change the dossier report on iraq because he said there was no weapons of mass destruction. Dr david kelly refused to change the report but ended up committing suicide just before the iraq war. He also served in northen Ireland as a mi6 agent look for a book called memisis file niall
@@batintheattic7293 is he well did you know he was one of the mi6 agents who harrased dr david Kelly to change his report on iraq having weapons of mass destruction. Dr david kelly wouldn't change the report but was found dead a few days later his wife said on bbc news that mi6 agent's had came to there house demanding he change the report...ang guess what iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction but rory stewart and his cronies said iraq did.
I really like this man, I think he is a genuine honest individual who came to politics with a very real and genuine concern for people and our nation.
He’s possibly the most “untory” “Tory “ I have ever witnessed.
Interestingly before the leadership race I only ever seen him occasionally and he annoyed me somewhat , however since listening to him over the past few months I think he really could a future PM in waiting. Although I doubt it would be leading the Conservative party.
He’s almost a Classical Libral in the truest sense of the term
He says over and over he is a Tory....LISTEN
Uk Porkpie wow someone who really can’t read. I did listen all the way through and although he said he’s a Tory his policy ideas and approach is very Untory. Hence the Untory Tory bit .. so back at you .. READ
@@Mrpsblobsoflowendmung as always though you should just check his voting record. He is just as bad as the rest of them. Why do people listen to what politicians say, when there is an actual record of what they believe or are willing to stand up for? Rory speaks well, comes across as a human being (something widely lacking in modern politics) - but crucially, he voted very poorly. Judge him on that - an active hand in putting the poorest and most vulnerable in society into a position even worse than it was before, who wants corporations to pay less tax, helped raise the uni fees to 9k per year, voted against a wholly elected house of lords.....it goes on.
Koodz very true mate, as he’s only really become on my radar recently I haven’t even looked into his voting record yet, just as you said my opinion on him so far is simply from hearing him speak, I have no intention what so ever of voting Tory but thus far it’s interesting to see a Tory at least in rhetoric coming from a different place.
I’m intrigued now tho so I’m going to check out his voting record and I’m sure my initial thoughts of him before all this will come back 😂😂😂
Bob Hartley koodz put it better than me but that is what my point was. Your phrase "an untory tory" was wrong in the context of what he votes for. If he was a new guy trying to get into parliament I would be thinking hmm, maybe a new guy who can try to change the party but he's not. He has been there supporting austerity etc throughout. I should've been clearer. But no need to read again.
What a sincere, articulate man. Shame he and others will soon be on the fringe of the party.
He seems like a man who practices mindfulness.
Harry rory stewart is x mi6 he was one of the agent that said iraq had weapons of mass destruction...dig a bit mate
Already.
He might be sincere and articulate but he is too left wing to be in the mainstream of the Conservative party.
@@princeknight4773 *practises
One of the few Torys I have a lot of respect for
@zed365 he is also one of the worst on brexit.
Admits EU wont re-open the WA
but says he will get Mays deal though by talking... Under Stewart we would be where we are now in 3 yrs time.
Weak and liberal. he is in the wrong party. If he was the PM god help us, Labour would walk all over him.
Are you proud of his record as prisons minister and his promise to lower deaths within a year and ran off within that time not even mentioned during his campaign for leader ! Peace
Simple, Vote Hunt, Keep Rory and get rid of that nutcase, Boris.
Because you have allowed yourself be duped and fooled by a CHARLATAN and an insidious CREEP.
Then you like most just have no clue on what politics even is be aware what central banks truly are be aware what fiat currency is and be aware what common law is to compared to statute law aka lawful vs legal its a huge massive scam!!!
I've never voted Tory in my life and I would have actually considered voting for him. He seems like the real deal, what a shame.
That was my dilemma as a Party chair. Rory is far more capable of winning a General Election, but Boris is far better for us as he will likely split the Conservative supporters. If it were not for Brexit, I would be hoping for Boris to sweep in and destroy the Tory party. As it is, I was hoping Rory would make it through as he was the only candidate that consistently held realistic and centrist positions.
So presumably you agree with his views on austerity and benefit cuts (see 20 mins in) ?
@@marcovanbatty That would be a bad presumption.
Louise Reay how would he split the party when over half of the mps want him as pm
@@ceo8677 You have answered your own question with that statement -- if half the MPs want him as PM that suggests that the other half do not - if one half want something that the other do not, well that is what you would call a split
I hate the Tories already - but Rory Stewart seems like a reasonable man to me.
have you ever looked at his voting record? he's one of the most right wing politicians in the conservative party.
This man has a huge and Bright future in British politics Post The Johnson theatre and circus show's curtains close. Rory will make an excellent party leader and head a responsible government.
With any luck the Tories won't even exist in a year or two. I will dance for joy if they do go down. To be fair Rory Stewart is one of the few Conservatives I have any respect for, but he's still a Tory, and the buggers have inflicted themselves on us for too long already.
@Ben Chorley. I hope you're right Ben but Brexiters are still surfing a wave of bullshit and having fun. Reality is still coming though, and all waves crash. Boris will inevitably be faced with the choice of killing Brexit or running us off the cliff. There will be consequences either way, and both will be very bad for the Conservative Party. Let's just hope that Boris doesn't do a Nero on us all.
HE GIVES YOU STRAIGHT WHEN ASK SOMETHING Best wishes
I'm not a Tory voter but I would march with this man.
That's because he's not a tory. He's a Liberal democrat.
A politician practising politics of conviction?!
He’s a rarity.
Ps I liked how he referenced my London Borough.
Hannah600000 hes a fraud do be lured in....hannah this man said along with other mi6 agent's that iraq had weapons of mass destruction hes x mi6 and as ive said to other's he and other agents are as far as I am concerned are responsible for the death of dr david kelly dig a bit hannah
Hannah600000.....if you dont believe me look for a book called memesis file it all there to see the truth what the likes of him were up to in northern Ireland. Being responsible for sending out the sas to shoot innocent civilians to create hatred....there is a lot more to him than you know hannah.....the webs they weave
He is against Brexit so not really.
@@davidmitchell2926 The idea that Rory was in SIS is pretty fucking ridiculous, gotta say. As is the rest of what you said.
seems like a real man of honour rory...
Most of the UK population wanted Rory Stewart to be prime minister. Unfortunately, most conservatives don't.
Erm.......not true!
@@paulanderton9424 Most, not all.
I actually don't really agree with his Brexit stance (or any of the others for that matter), but he seemed like he was the only one attempting to do what's best for the country and not just a careerist. He was unarguably the most qualified and most liked by the public, even if he really didn't stand a chance, unfortunately.
He's actually the only MP I know of that I genuinely respect.
@@Iamharryparker no not most, that's rubbish!
Cobblers....we would never Leave left to him...The EU would take his trousers off and send him home in his underpants.
He will make a good Prime Minister and I hope once Boris or Jeremy are thrown out Rory will try again and WIN the next time.
Sometimes in life a disappointment is blessing in disguise.
Keep u eyes on this Rory chap.
Well done on your campaign Rory you handled your self with class and grace from a labour voter
He is a nice bloke
He is, but he's still a Tory. Never forget that.
Don't be fooled.
A Tory centrist, not so different from Brown and Blair (minus the messianic hubris)
Bit scruffy.
>
Bodragon ah yes. Judging a character based on their looks. Good idea!
Can we skip the Tory party and have the Rory party instead, please?
One day this man will be the UK's prime minister. If he made it to the Hustings he would have won. The public love him.
But not the Tory party... they want brexit no matter what
Only those in the Conservative Party are voting though and they don't.
Still a Tory who voted for EVERY single welfare cut. (Ex-) MI5, too.
The media love him. Not the people.
Rory really was the most honest and realistic candidate. There's just something about him that makes me feel comfortable with him and maybe (shock!) trust him. He just makes a lot of sense and it truly felt like he was being transparent. It's a shame that he didn't make it through, but he gave it a good go and the result he got wasn't unexpected. Someone sane and realistic and reasonable, especially in regards to Brexit, isn't what the party wants or needs right now. They're thinking of the next general election, which they are certain to lose if they don't get someone who can talk the talk and worry about the consequences later. Good job Rory and I wish you all the best for the future, you seem really decent. :)
Intelligent, articulate, engaging, likeable. He was the best candidate.
Comes over quite likeable for a Tory.
Of course : he's a Blairite.
vinm300 Hahahah brilliant
Teacher Advice Hanoi I commented saying he’s the most untory Tory I’ve ever witnessed and some retard replyed he’s says he’s a Tory over and over ... LISTEN. Doh yeah but so unlike any conservative politician to date. Except maybe Michael Portillo who was also very personable and on the whole genuine to a degree but Rory is another level .
Still couldn’t vote Tory like so dosnt Make a difference really 😂😂😂
Gary Gibbon.. brilliant interview.....superb....Channel 4 r lucky to have you
bit flirtatious tho
egg54543543543... ha ha....yes
I despise the Tories... but RS seems genuine, honest and sincere. He is clearly very bright (not just well educated), and I think still has a bright future.
8.33 "There is no democratic legitimacy for no deal" thank you Rory for saying that very clearly.
It was austerity that caused the negativity that caused Brexit. A needless exercise for punishing the working classes for the crimes of bankers but the blame was placed on immigrants.
Don't give up just yet my man there's going to be a lot of room for you in British politics just wait and watch the liers get exposed by October..
But this is what he would direct the country into by not leaving completely..ruclips.net/video/SUZ7I6j7U0U/видео.html
Absolutely, like 2016, all those liars got exposed in project fear 1.0 will definitely get exposed again for project fear 2.0 after we have left.
You are 100% correct, well said old boy
A good interview. If I was a politician, I would do the same, his Rory Walks hashtag and video series is a good idea. It reminds me of Karl The Great who never had a fixed court but travelled through his empire the whole time to meet his subjects.
Karl "the Great" Pilkington?
“We survived the Black Death”. 🤣
Aviation and politics-strange duo
mate I really like your videos, I like the really obscure routes like the flight across wales or transatlantic 737, although I guess that has been cancelled due to 737 max grounding
You should be doing reviews of politicians next
very good interview, precise and technical, getting into the real pertinent facts
Boris the bus is a frightening proposal for all.
Could you review and amend your subtitles following the initial broadcast? This would be a great help for those who don't have English as a first language. I would be happy to edit them for you, for a small fee!
Good thoughtful interview
ooo i like him spilling the tea about D-Notices being used. cheers for the parliamentary privilege.
He’s not spilled anything. That was already common knowledge. It is designed to protect innocent people who might be connected in some way with people whom the newspapers might otherwise claim were “spies”: Because if those reports were believed by those who were spied upon, they might also infer that those connected (innocently) with the “spies” were themselves spies. I’ve worked for companies involved in the arms trade before now, and received security briefings to educate me about how spies operate and what to be wary of. This was fundamental to that sort of briefing.
I’m not a Tory & we don’t have the same politics, but i find him really charming & likeable.
With this guy the tories would have had a chance to get the mess sorted out. Boris Johnson will tear the UK apart.
Historical opportunity wasted.
From America looking in - Rory is a litigating and debating Juggernaut. Watching several times in various narratives, he reeks of Good Character, Trustworthiness, Knowledge, and Great Personality. I would want him to be leading or being a big part of the government that represents me.
It's not April the first .😁
Phenom interview
The best leader we never had
I would also like a sense that Boris has read the withdrawal agreement. At least someone else reading it to him and bullet pointing important points 🤦🏻♂️
How was it possible for Roderick to ever have been selected as a Tory MP?
Thank you for your response. Can UK not continue to be part of the Customs Union and take time off to decide as a nation what kind of a relationship with the EU it wants?
I'm not a Tory voter but politics needs people like Rory. I've a lot of respect for him.
More of this Gary, a John McDonnell and a Vince Cable interview would be interesting,
Rory Stewart is refreshing, doesn't shy away from the obvious difficult truths that need to be said, just like Vince and John,
Tell it like it is and you gain respect,
Lie, cheat and deceive and go for sound bites and all you will do is spend all your time responding to questions about your character and the important issues get ignored,
Rory is now one of my 3 best MP's, the Tory's made a big mistake, it won't take them long to realise Boris bought their loyalty with undeliverable promises as Gary alluded to hopefully Rory will get another chance,
When Brexit takes it's the 3rd scalp, I can't wait to see the car crash, very bad for the country, hilarious daily amuse bouche "I paint model cardboard buses" for example, it seemed like he was trying to convince himself of this revelation as he was saying it, not being mimed to off camera at all though,
Fantastic work, as usual, the whole team create quality content,
Hopefully, you will be relocating to Leeds and we can hear more northern issues.
The only genuine politician whose every word you listen to because it means something....and after thinking about it admiring his intelligence and articulacy. I genuinely like the guy.
"Back to [his] day job." Apparently not because according to Stewart, if Boris wins the leadership contest, and it seems very likely he will, Stewart said he will not serve in the cabinet under Boris. Which as far as I am concerned is a bonus.
Stewart is painfully honest and a person of substantial achievement before his life in politics. There could be no greater contrast between him and the preening popinjay who is about to become PM of the UK with the help of well paid political consultants. Gary Gibbon is a superb interviewer compared to the shouty interrupting types who populate TV studios these days.
too true, I just watched the debate between Johnson and Hunt but the interviewer! rude and obnoxious - which made Boris look the better man because he just talked right through the interviewer - somehow at a Tory leadership convention they had a leftist interviewer - I suppose that saves everyone from a yawning hour and a half of easy questions but I wanted to pop the guy - and so I was happy when Boris trampled him as Boris will do.
Love a good knitted tie.
Would have liked the question about Stewart's support of austerity have specifically and directly addressed the people who have suffered and been killed by the policy and not allowed him to have gotten away with Jesusing the bottom 10% issue.
He's in the wrong party - he'd be better off in the red team
This man is a Tory heart and soul. He is not progressive in the Labour sense, though admittedly in the Blair sense, yes he is. And yet I like him, despite his clearly Tory affiliations.
@I'm Super Fat I dont; and i am a bisexual lberal. NEXT
What a lovely man! And he talks sense !
Unfortunately, his politics are so wrong about everything. I'd still have him round for tea though.
All pomp set aside, this guy seemed like most well reasoned and thoroughly thought out of all the candidates. Wish reason was more persuasive.
Rory Stewart is the Eddard Stark of politics.
And Britain should stay in the EU. You can’t have a deal with the EU without at least staying partly, or mostly in the EU and that would
Make Brexit pointless.
Continuing the theme of the rest of the comments here.....he seems a jolly nice, honest type of chap. I'm sure he can't be lying to me....
Don’t Stop Believing!
A shame he voted for the austerity cuts and believes that those cuts didn't effect the most vulnerable in our society. He was doing so well ...
He is only man to confront Jeremy Corbyn.
As a labour voter in his constituency, I have written to him several times on various issues (national and local) and he always replies in full (not some obvious copy and paste job). He seems the real deal and works very hard. Just a shame that he has spent the best part of a decade propping up such a cruel government that has crippled this country.
the only morally intact (ex) tory MP i've ever come across.
hopefully he doesn't stay away from Westminster for too long. we NEED folks like him.
Wish we had people like him in America
“Walking whilst listening” heard it before? Subcomandante Insrgente Marcos - Zapatistas.... makes you think.
What does it make you think, all vegetarians are Nazis? Do you even think?
As a pattern recognising being you probably see faces and buildings on other planets too. Doesn't mean they are real.
Rory walks Rory talks wow he does get around that boy Rory
Rory Stewart sums up what a politician should be. I may not agree with some of what he says but there is no doubt in my mind that he cares about the country and people in it.
What a decent guy
I’m a big fan of Rory Stewart!
My new favourite politician. Pragmatic, rational & honest. Three things that are massively lacking in Britain right now.
Really knows his stuff and isn't afraid to tell the truth. The English electorate will undoubtedly misunderstand him.
"it will not only happen in parliament, it will happen in the streets" what i'm afraid of and can see happening. Half want in and half want in, there's zero support for "Norway ++" or the EU-May fudge, which are the only possible compromises (considering that time's run out), so it can't be done.
a tory even mentioning the poorest among us with compassion is quite remarkable. THAT, if replicated through a large minority of tory MPs, would represent to me a MASSIVE shift in the tory mindset...A damascene conversion, the likes of which i never thought i would live to see. power on Mr Stewart, power on.
I’m not a natural Tory voter but Rory is starting to make a lot of sense. He seems to genuinely care about and is not afraid to get amongst the people. I can’t help but like him, except when he talks about Corbyn and the Russians!
What I'm hearing from many of these conversations is people crying out for decentralising power away from Westminster - Government is too remote, too unrepresentative, and too unresponsive.
Imagine if each town/city/municipality had a local government/Mayor with *real* power, who could listen and respond to local needs?
We're one of the most centralised countries in the developed world, and possibly the most in the EU. Only 5 per cent of revenue is raised locally, as compared with 50 per cent in Canada. And London's Mayor only has control of over around 7% of taxes collected in the capital- which pales in comparison with New York, where the mayor gets to keep 50% of all tax receipts, or Tokyo, where it’s more like 70%.
I think devolution would be the single most significant thing the government could do to fix many of this country's problems. Fiscal decentralisation is associated with higher national income, better school performance and higher levels of investment. It also promotes greater experimentation, better matching of services to local preferences and greater competition between providers of government-funded services.
He is the true star of British politics and the Conservative MPs just couldn’t see it. They will regret kicking him out as the people love him and his sincerity. People can see through those politicians and know who to trust in the future.
Bring back may threaty . . . .Great insight Worwy NOT!
Rory was the best choice from a bad bunch. At the very least the most capable and most statesman like.
Because of course the person who came basically last deserves a 30 minute interview where you pal around with him no bias
Exactly interview the candidate you wanted to win and ask all the questions he's happy to answer. Contrast with how they interview Brexiteers where it's all about trying to take them down, often not discussing the issue at all. If they feel a Brexiteer has a weakness regarding their private life they will start with those questions when the public just want their democratic decision implemented.
Me thinks that this guy will be PM in the very near future.
Future PM, global perspective, Social media savvy and answers questions.
Rory you need to start a world council for climate change and start with Desertification first.
key word: vocation
4 billion going on 5 wasted over three 3yrs... Do these politians realise how many have suffered with there policy's to go and waste this kind of public money.... 350 on a bus seems like penny's
Quite sad the back room boys didn't allow the rank and file to have a chance to vote for Rory Stewart.
One of the few decent Tories
They tried to push this guy as the British Macron/Trudeau but he just hasn't got the look.
He was truly the man for the job
Sincere decent man, hope he gets to be prime minister in the near future.
Too nice to become leader. Pity.
I told you. Too good to win.
JC for me but a desperate shame we won't get Rory Stewart.
@@blackphilip8936 Jesus Christ would vote for Jeremy Corbyn.
RS should try to work along with BJ, he seems to speak sensible - realistic, logical and smart.
Firstly if Rory thinks that live streaming someone’s rant about whatever their particular hobby horse is, however well intentioned, is a radical new way of doing politics as opposed to a shallow political stunt, I’ve seriously over estimated the man in the past. Secondly, if he’s too bored to spend his time representing his constituents that he feels the need to gladfly all over the country I’d suggest maybe the voters in the Lake District could find someone else who is interested in representing their interests in Parliament.
i don't confuse liking someone with believing in their policies, but he's a nice man and he represents the centre we're in danger of losing to the extremes and hysteria, which i hate. I am Green, and i'm not deluded that he shares my views on the NHS either (take it back into public ownership), but he reminds me of Tories i've known and know and get on well with and share a lot of views with. But if he thinks the Tory party should be put ahead of the country, i can't go there with him. PMs come and go, but breaking up the union and leaving the EU are far more permanent than a Corbyn government.
This man,is to be applauded, not another man is o par WITH him ,inshallah ☺👍🙏
