  • For sure Jorge Lorenzo was something special on the racetrack. He had one of the most unique riding styles MotoGP riders ever saw, he was a joy to watch for many!
    However, he called time on his racing career, sure it was a tough call, but why! Why did such a talented rider call time on his illustrious career so suddenly when he had just signed for one of the greatest teams on the track at that time.
    Jorge Lorenzo kicked off his racing career when he was only 15. He built his reputation from the ground up by achieving some of the best performances in MotoGP. After a few years at the top, he switched to different manufacturers and ended his career with Honda where things didn’t go to plan. He had a nasty injury which worried him at Assen in 2019, which we’ll go into later, but he did say it was one of those moments in his career that made him think very seriously about his future.
    Did you know that Jorge stated he almost returned to MotoGP with Ducati in 2021. He said, if a deal sounded right and we could reach an agreement, then yes I would race again! Stay tuned to find out the true story behind his retirement, and a glimpse into his illustrious career, and why we think Jorge Lorenzo Was Something Special on the Racetrack.

      IMO Casey and Jorge had a similar style and mentality in racing. They would both find a consistent rhythm early, and if either got the lead they were untouchable. People would say it is boring racing, but I beg to differ.

    • @gryphongryph
      @gryphongryph 2 года назад +4

      @@LushmanGB they could look quite alike, but there was a big difference, Stoner really did not trust the front, therefore used his rear tire to slide the back out, Jorge was a front tire rider with a lot of corner speed, made possible by the Yamaha geometry a style that always suited the inline four, the Ducati never liked relying on front tires diving into corners.
      It is interesting that Stoner and Jorge both mastered the Ducati, Rossi never managed to command the Ducati, which still makes him a fantastic rider, only in my mind behind the two others when it came to all out talent.

    I like your videos, but you had a couple facts wrong. He wore the number 1 in 2011. After winning the 2010 championship. In 2009 he changed his number to 99, the same number Jeremy McWilliams used while he raced in MotoGP. He is an absolute legend. Even me being a Rossi fan, I entered in a go kart race and told myself to do a Lorenzo, which I did, leading from start to finish and doing consistent fast lap times. A very underrated rider and if Ducati believed in him more I reckon he could have won the championship in 2020 and possibly 2019. Keep up these quality vids 👍👍

    I think riding with a number 1 on the front of your bike should be mandatory for the reigning world champion... It's a tradition, and there's no motorsport more steeped in tradition than grand prix motorcycle racing. Plus I think it puts more pressure on the champion to be at the front, because nothing makes a fall from grace more obvious than the number one bike sitting on the third row of the grid, it makes you more of a target on track and people who are watching MotoGP for the first few times can easily pick out who's the number one ranked motorcycle racer in the world... Because there's a number one literally on the bike.
    I also think you shouldn't be allowed to ride with a number that's lower than the ranking you achieved last season. So if you're usually number 3, but you ranked 7th last year, you're gonna have to pick a number greater than 7, if you don't want to just be 7.
    It's something I've thought about a lot obviously, I really don't like how Vale popularised the use of your "marketing number" when you're the reigning world champion. I know he didn't do it first, but he made it the norm and I'm glad Stoner and Jorge went the traditional route.
    Rant over.

      You know you have a valid point. Definitely new comers starting to watch MotoGP would know straight away who won the previous year when they can follow the no1.
      Us avid fans that have been watching for years will be able to identify who's who. Identifying them by the no1 on the front of their bikes would help a lot!

      @C.Fecteau-AU-MJ13 2 года назад +1

      @@motoplusgp And it's the casual observer, the new comers, which any successful sporting promotion MUST be focused on the most. The rusted on fans are gonna watch no matter what, the key to keeping the sport contemporary is how you make it easy to get into if you didn't grow up watching it. I mean, I started watching it with my dad as soon as I was old enough to want to do whatever dad was doing, so it's not something I had really had to learn. Getting up to speed if you didn't speak motorcycle in the house as a child, I'd have to imagine, would be more complicated than people who are fluent would think.

      It just didn't suit his style... The RCV of that generation was set up for Marc, after being built for Stoner's style. They ride with much more throttle on the exit of corners, Stoner was always worried about losing the front so he used the wheel spin to turn the motorcycle, while Jorge preferred to carry more speed during the corner and get on the throttle more gradually. A technique that the Yamaha seemed to favour more.
      Stoner did a really good interview on a podcast called "Gypsy Tales" where he went in depth on this exact topic and why the Honda worked for him and Marc, but not for Jorge. I highly recommend giving it a listen if you're interested.

      Rossi talked shit about Márquez after Phillip Island race. Márquez's tactics in Australia were no different to past races, but Rossi tends to think everything revolves around him and Uccio conviced him to protest. After Argentina and Assen incidents, it was too much for Márquez and he decided to shout his mouth up on the track, nothing to do with Lorenzo.
      Anyway, Rossi didn't had the pace in Sepang and Valencia, fourth place was the best result he could have achieved in both races, regardless of Márquez (his third place in Sepang after KICKING him out was even a present).
