the missing link there was tswana...i could fluently hear both lozi and sotho speakers....u should have brought a tswana speaker ....so its true Lozi are from Sotho clan....the language appears to have been corrupted by other languages but a tswana man can vividly and fluently make out what u guys are saying
We do clap our hands when we greet or when we are about to accept something from someone in south africa and we call it "phaphata" , we did it in the past but the more we adapted to the western world , only healers do that the most

Lozi people were conquered by Sotho people in the 19th century and the Sotho language was forced on the Lozi. One hundred years later, Lozis killed their Sotho Overseers but the language remained.
And when we greet we greet in plural context , reason we do that its because we also acknowledge the ancestral lineages you're representing when we greet in that way , its because whats holy you are never direct towards thats why african languages speak in metaphors...

Lozi originate from Sotho- Speaking Bafokeng region of South Africa, known as makololo, Lead by the warrior Sebetwane, invaded Barotseland and conquered the Lozi .... now thats the History you people are from us Sothos Sibeso,
Lozis originate from Congo DR 400 years ago from the Luba-Lunda kingdoms and were originally called the Luyi when we settled in Zambia and spoke the Luyana language. The Lozi kingdom actually has over 20 very different tribes, but the Aluyi settlers became the ruling tribe. In 1830 the Kololo tribe led by Sebitwane conquered and colonised us for 30 years. They called us BaLozi as a mispronunciation of ALuyi. The Kololo tribe were concentrated in the South, from Sesheke to the Chobe river. Lozi were in the North/Centre by the Zambezi floodplain, so remained separate. Many Makololo had begun dying of Malaria, due to a lack of immunity for most South African tribes. Eventually, they were overthrown by a revolt led by Sipopa a Lozi from the 'royal' lineage and most Makololo warriors were massacred or fled to Botswana where they were genocided by the BaMangweto (Tswana). The females were integrated into Lozi society. That's why the Kaololo tribe went extinct, but some Lozis have Kololo ancestry, even Kololo names are widespread. We retained the Sekololo language and renamed it SiLozi, along with a few other Makololo cultural practices. That's why we speak this language. We're not Basotho but we're all Africans and that's what matters.
Lozi /Rotsi language came to be after a Sotho/Tswana Chief Sebetwane from Morden day Free State in South Africa escaped the Mfecane wars and conqured the Luyana(people group in Western Province Zambia). Prior to that the people in Western Privince spoke a variety of different languages. Today they are called baLozi or BaRotse and the region is Barotseland.
