I like to count my reps in increments of 5 always gets me to either close to failure or to failure if I don't count them I'll just think "well this is getting uncomfortable I've done enough whatever" stopping doesn't even cross my mind if I've been counting and I know that I can get a few more and try to get at least 5 more if I can I'll get those last 5 reps even if the last 2 or 3 will be cheat reps because I'm that close or if I just can't, muscular failure just means I've succeeded

that is also what Tom Platz done. He said something like you can't squat 20 reps but you can always squat 5 reps over and over.
