Repairing Makita old 6222D cordless drill. Replacing the motor.

First I had to make sure the battery was ok. I measured 10V, which tells me the battery is fine. Next I tested the switch. Pressing it, I could see the voltage delivered at the motor increase from 0 to 10V but even with the chuck and gearbox removed the motor wouldn't spin. My conclusion was a faulty motor. So I ordered a new one and replaced it by de-soldering the old one and soldering in the new one.
Used tools and supplies:
- PH1 screwdriver
- Multimeter + test leads
- Soldering iron + solder
- Replacement motor (Partnr: 629783-9)

My dad is still using this older drill. I got him a new one for fathers days. Maybe then he’ll retire this old thing, it still functions, but it’s nice to have the latest lol.

Paul Gilbert/Eddie Van Halen trick I learned about. I have plenty of 20V Dewalt drills but I like the motor sound of Makita especially the older drills. Plus I could use if for wood furniture projects.

@@MrSjirafje really i recognize them old drills because my dad has several of those lying around and he used them ever since I was a kid , know that I’m older I also use Makita power tools, only the newer once though

I have had this same drill for over 20 years. It still works. My question are the replacement motors genuine Makita?

The original motor was not made by Makita but by a company named Johnson. The replacement motor in the video is an genuine Johnson motor (exactly the same type as the original). Hope that answers your question.

It is possible to remove the chuck. If you could find a chuck with autolock function that fits, then yes. However the auto lock function is usually part of the gearbox, I don't think you can find one that fits this machine.
