as someone who has only ever played blitx online i dont see the logic of playing it otb at the highest level, where you can drop pieces, move the pieces slowly enough to change your mind...lots of weird shit in those last 30 seconds that just can't happen online
Given the fact that Magnus had a beautiful knight on g5 it was the purpose of that move to block castling queen side because the king side attack could be deadly because of that knight. Basically not letting white king to escape that part of the board. Plus he got it back by capturing the white pawn on e3.
Is the same if chessbase put the result in the title or if it is not put there. Actually the pairing Andreikin - Carlsen is a spoiler in itself since Andreikin is winning every single blitz game against Carlsen.
Jon Dohnson great question. I think he thought after Bxc5 he had Qa5 check to win the bishop, but after the king moves or is blocked by Qc3, if black captures the Bishop, white has Bxc7, winning the queen. Maybe he missed the Bxc7 line I’m not sure
My guess is Magnus wanted to play ...Re8 instead but didn't like white queenside castling in response, so he played c5 preventing queenside castling, and then he regained the pawn a bit later anyway.
@@Brumfield85 Carlsen automatically played Re8 which means he had caculated a line to take back the pawn. I'm quite sure he didn't miss the line that u've said. From my point of view, i think c5 is a good move to open the c file, prevents white to castle the queen side and opens a severe attack on the king side. But ye what we see in this game is white was also able to create a attack when castled the king side
When you are good at some game, you understand that in some specific positions the chances not to lose are too small to continue playing. And some players choose not to waste energy just to play on. You can image a small child watching a boxing match, one guy is just pounding the other guy and so that he raises his hands and asks please stop. The judge decides the patch is over and he lost. The small kid asks, but why did they stop? he could still get up and win...
Magnus had no respect for Andreikin. Clearly winning with an easy 2 pawn advantage in the endgame. But Magnus just played on without admitting defeat right away.
I agree with u Jacky. But @1:41 why did Magnus moved his pawn from C7 -> C5 ? He was in tat idea but later he changed to Rook might have work. And i dnt think opponent would have go with your move quickly at tat tym. He usually thinks, just want to move his king somewhere to be safe.
Cleary u can see tat next move @2:12 Magnus giving up his Knight to E3.. he might have done tat before itself. This could have change this game to win by Magnus.

there wasnt any point of moving that c7 pawn
He wanted to go Qa5 check, collecting the Bishop, but he then realized that white can play b4 defending Bishop and block check simultaneously
That's theory pal.
The point of c5 was to prevent queenside castling
I think the losing move was pawn a5... he should have played bishop e8 or pawn h5...

What was Magnus's reasoning for pawn to C5 at 1:42? Novice player here just trying to learn

I'm a bit confused why he conceded, sure he was in a bad position but he's not in check mate is he? Is it just a case of its inevitable?
Probably because he was losing the ruck to stop the pawn on tge A file?
