Tornado F.3, a very capable stand-off interceptor. But I winced when he said he said he went up against the Typhoon, F-16 and Mirage 2000! Bad news about the hard drive crash!!! Ouch!!!
True. But in today's fighter arena, with IR missiles capable of 180° degree turns operational on a number of air forces, I will be very unwilling to turn against a opponent armed with one of those puppies, even if I am on a F-16 or Su-35 and the other guy on a modernized F-104. I believe the RAF was right when they made the specification for the ASRAAM. Shot first and get the hell out of there before the other guy can fire theirs.
@@magoid Operating costs and $1M+ per missiles with very short on rail lifespans will kill manned fighter aircraft eventually. Face it everything points to drones doing the "Air Work" in the future.
At over 30.000 lb empty, it is the same weight of a F-15E, so I put it on the heavy side of the fighter scale. A F-18C and MiG-29 are both lighter and smaller than a Tornado F3.
@@distortedreality4603 Nobody said it was, there is very much a lack of need for Air to Air in recent years and looks to be even less in the future so air to ground is necessary. That said Tornado did not seem to do anything exceptional and performance was not great either.
Cool. What would be your prefer method of contact? My father flew B-52s during the 1991 Gulf War and sat nuclear alert during the closing days of the Cold War.
What a story! And refreshing to hear a funny story about coming second 😂
Only in India you will find Jaguar flying with Migs, Sukhois and Some mirages soon Rafale too 😅.

Tornado was a "Medium Fighter" yes? By that I mean comparable to a Hornet or Mig-29.

@@magoid So it's overweight and under-engined.
@@magoid I'd say more Phantom class in weight terms. So beefier than a classic Hornet or an original MiG-29. But less then an F-15E class Eagle.
The Tornado F3 was an intercepter, not a pure fighter

Wonderful! Hey I know a few old B-52 crewdogs who would probably be willing to talk to you.
That would be great if you could put me in touch with some!
