    Thanks for the review! I agree with the last point in regards to the packages, there’s way too many “fluff and filler” resources. A fully custom option would be great 👍🏽

    Logos was really helpful when I switched from BibleWorks. They directed me to a crossgrade package, which had everything BibleWorks had and more, and it was a really good deal (like $800). They later had a big sale on resources and I called them. The sales person spent the time to find out what exactly I wanted then found the best way to get me the lowest price on all the specific books I wanted. He found some Academic add-on I think. I wound up spending another $400 and got everything I wanted (more than I'll ever need). Point being, they will sometimes make exceptions and help you out. It depends on the sales person's knowledge of the ecosystem and whether there is any wiggle room during a sale.

      Generally the sales team are really helpful. I've only had good experiences with them. I'm glad your experience was also good! Thanks for watching!

    I fully agree with the packaging structures!! I spent all day yesterday looking and comparing all the packages (wish the compare tool included the academic packages too!!) and my head is spinning. I would absolutely prefer the ability to build my package with what I want with the features I want and not the bulk packages filled with stuff I don't want and won't use.
    Thanks for the informative video!!

    The search in print feature is perhaps the killer feature for me. I use Logos Academic Professional, and the upgrade price from 9 to 10 was quite reasonable (about $200 for me). Purchasing and upgrading was incredibly easy.

    Here is a tip that may help: If you want just the new features just purchase the Logos 10 Full Feature Upgrade (not a package with more books) I am a bit new to Logos and use it to teach the Bible to the Chinese and was excited about the translate feature for them, the best way to get all the features Full Feature Upgrade (May be obvious to most but I bought another package... lol) anyway the good news is the full feature upgrade isn't that expensive just not as a package :)

    I'm disappointed the Print Library Catalog feature is only available in Gold and above. I have very little interest in the packages Logos has put together...there are simply too many resources that I would never use. I'd pay to be able to buy that feature à la carte, but as of today you can't. I also agree with your suggestion of being able to build our own packages at a discounted bundle rate.
    For the full feature upgrade it's $500...print library catalog is cool, but not $500 cool. Especially when it wouldnt' be my entire library, just a select few that have been digitized.

    • @bma
      @bma  Год назад

      I understand. I guess you have to have a good reason to get the full feature set. You can probably survive without that feature a little longer though. You could upgrade to say the Bronze feature seat (unless you need the sermon and preaching modules) and then later upgrade again when you can afford it. But I also understand that money is tight, so these are just suggestions. 😉

    Regarding adding a "location" field: The Add to Print Library" function works for adding names of Kindle resources. It would be helpful if an additional field could be added to include URL(s), which would allow launching the web version of the resource. This would also allow adding links to books that are Public Domain

    Thanks for the insightful video! I love all the new features in Logos 10 but I think I will get a trill using the "Quote" feature that is part of the Sermon Builder. As a teacher I am always looking for the right quotes to bring home a point to my students and this feature looks like it will be a lot simpler than plowing through quote books. I do agree with you on you most unpleasing feature in Logos. I have a lot of books by authors that I disagree with and will NEVER read that were thrown into the package I started with. Have a blessed day!

    I see the value of the 'Print Library Scan and Search' feature, but personally not of any value to me, if it's in my print library then it's not in Logos, if it's in Logos then it's not in my print library other than my bibles and a few key resources. The enhancements to the mobile App for iPhone are great (I don't have an iPad or any other sort of tablet currently). On the desktop I don't care for the menu on left hand side so it's staying at top of screen for me. Enhancements to timeline, factbook tags (I can choose which ones are underlined in a resource) and bolstering of Church History supporting information are good improvements. Search simplification is a good thing too. I do like the translation feature for when reading a say a theology or other book that includes Latin quotes, this is time saving feature. I am building on my high school German, have a few German language resources so I think I will use this a little bit also as I grow my use of the language and dig a bit more into these resources, i can validate my understanding of the language, do my own translation first and then see what it suggests.

    a good video, very well put together. I do disagree with you on the way there doing books, if you want just the books, get a legacy package, if you want some pacbages and such with say datasets, get yourself a starter package and build your library off the legacy packages, this way you get some features of the current product while also building your library at the same time. you also are more than capable gettting just basic books and such, so its definitely doable. again very good video and you did a great job.

    I really enjoy your channel. I had a couple of thoughts concerning your final comments on what you don't like. First, you can buy just the datasets without a library by shopping the Feature Upgrades, which do not include a library. You can also subscribe to Connect, which gives you the features automatically for every new version, and then you don't have to purchase anything new. Second, concerning the extra resources that I often think I would never use, I actually use many of them quite often under two circumstances. One, I do a lot of research, and I often find citations in academic resources to books that I have not heard of, but that I am pleasantly surprised that I own, so I can read the original quote in its greater context. Two, often times when I am watching a video like yours, or even listening to my preacher, and a book or author is referenced, I often have that book and can consult it directly. Lastly, though I do understand some see the extra resources as clutter, buying the larger packages is the best way to get the really expensive resources that you want for the best price. If I can get a base package for $500, which includes a $1500-$2000 commentary set along with a bunch of other resources, even though it will include some fluff, then I call it a win. I can always hide resources if I am sure that I will never want them to come up in searches.

    • @bma
      @bma  Год назад

      Thanks Joseph, I agree the feature upgrades are helpful (Check them out at bma.to/lemut8). I have also had that serendipitous discovery of books I already own inside my library! It is fun, but then that also means I've paid for books (including this one) that I haven't used or known I've needed. Certainly though this is the cost of buying the bundles - you always get books you will need and books you don't know. Thanks for your thoughtful comments!

    • @josephturner6630
      @josephturner6630 Год назад

      @@bma My strategy for making base package or collection purchases is that I count up the cost of only the resources that I want out of the set. If the cost of the set is less than the cost for the total of the individual items that I really wanted, then I make the purchase. I consider the remaining resources to be bonuses! That way I don't ever see it as making purchases of resources that I didn't want.

  • @Toby-asdf
    @Toby-asdf Год назад

    On your last two points, I was getting so excited to be able to search my physical library but having to pay over a thousand MORE dollars after I've already spent a thousand ???? no way. This seminarian don't have that kind of money. And about the package system, yep. I bought some expensive package initially that I thought would be most of the resources I'd need for a long long time. Then I comb through the library only to find that over 50% was padding (mostly the in-house Faithlife material) or out-of-date resources like commentaries and lexicons from like 1856. Frankly, it feels really dishonest of them.
