      Probably because it wasn’t plugged by DJ’s on the scene at the time, but you know the saying ‘ the rare, unknown ones are the sweetest ones’ and that’s a fact my man 👍

      Teddy Pendergrass called him "daddy". On a Soul Train interview, TP said Mr. Marvin taught him everything he knows. :0)

    It's the inspired arrangement by Charles Stepney that makes this song so powerful. And of course, those Dells' voices, and especially Marvin's lead.

    Oh Oh Oh,,, This just too much beautiful blue soul to digest. Makes my heart ache for how times used to be. Slow dancing under a blue light at a house party or just walking home from high school holding my girls hand on a spring day. Many of you singers today need to enroll in the old school and learn how to sing Real talented soul. Brother Marvin Jr, Chuck, Verne, Johnnie, and Mickey; can't nobody top you.

    One of the great male vocal groups of all time, I was a kid when they were in their hey day but I remember hearing their hits on the radio (WRAP, Norfolk, VA) this is my favorite from them....

    Yes. The Dells still perform oldies R&B shows. I saw them in Philly a couple of years ago (also saw them sing this in the early 70's). They were great live performances.

    The song " I Can Sing a Rainbow" was based on a nursery song from their youth, but that will go with "Love Is Blue". A lot of kids from kindergarden never heard of the intro where it leads to "love Is Blue". That fits very well.

    Rest in peace to the great CHUCK BARKSDALE, the deep bass/baritone vocalist of the mighty mighty DELLS. He passed away on may 15th, 2019. I think he was the last one left. Will always love his part on this jam, from 1:53 to 2:15.

    What a brilliant song from 1968 ,it conquers images of that year ,high rise flats ,concrete jungles,Vauxhall vicounts ,ford cortina mark twos ,skinheads and afros too.Great emotional soul sound ,they sing it like they really mean it. Long live soul

    I love this song to death. Beautiful sounds and lyrics. "Blue, blue is my world." "Now we are apart." "Now I am without you baby." My God I feel the lyrics to this song. That dude could hold a note. I saw them at Painters Mills in Baltimore.

    I remember hearing this track in 1970 aged 15 and coming home to London after being on holiday in Peranporth, Cornwall...in my Dads 1964 Humber Hawk......trouble is he didnt like the song and pressed the button on the old Motorola radio to another channel........Ah, the good old days.

    Radio station WBLS in New York City used to have a program on Sundays with Hal Jackson known as the Sunday classics. That’s where I first heard this song.
