All About NIFT Master of Design (M.Des.) Program - A discussion with Aatmika (NIFT Mumbai 2018-20)

M.Des. program which stands for Master of Design is a full time 2 years Postgraduate program in Design offered by National Institute of Fashion Technology. It caters to the multi-disciplinary and dynamic nature of job profiles that seek professionals who can work in versatile environments. This course builds its specializations based on the foundation of Design Thinking and Research Practice.
There is not much knowledge and guidance available on the internet and other portals regarding this course which makes it difficult for the graduates to decide whether they should pursue this course or not.
Hence, I collaborated with a good friend of mine - Aatmika A. to make this video giving insights on this program. Aatmika is an M.Des. passout from NIFT Mumbai (Batch 2018-20) and hence, I thought it would be great to have her giving some interesting insights about this program so that collectively we both can help out the new students in guiding them so that they can take an informed decision.

Hi, how is the placement cell for jobs in NIFT after pursuing masters ? What is the averags package offer?

@@adityajai.n Based on previous years data, you will be able to get campuses other than the Top 5 like Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Gandhinagar. Chances for these are very low. All the best!
But i talked to someone who is from nift only and she said that it's not good to pursue masters if u are from non design background and like u need to know alot of things and i applied for m des and the exam is on 9 feb and now my mind is very confused
@@bhaktigupta7802 Hello Bhakti, my suggestion to you would be to not get confused at all at this point of time. Because it all depends upon your area of interest and what you want to become in life at the end of the day. I somewhat agree that doing Masters from NIFT is not a very big achievement but again I would say it all depends on other factors like what other options do you have if not masters from NIFT cos trust me, one benefit of NIFT is that it gives you a brand value and edge over other candidates. So think wisely and please focus on your upcoming exam of NIFT. If you get selected, after that only take the decision whether to pursue it or not. All the best!
@rishabhmalhotra1065 okayyyyy i got your point but she said that as u are from non design background like i am from commerce so u need to know all the basics of designs like from scratch vo tumhe kuch ni sikhyge that's why i was afraid and confused

@@bhaktigupta7802 Hmm I got your point. See, if you know that ultimately you have to get into designing only, then go for it cos you will pick up the basics by working little more harder than other candidates. Otherwise, just give the exam and then decide whether to pursue it or not.

Definitely! The M.Des program at NIFT is an excellent option for anyone passionate about fashion design, regardless of their background. However, you’ll get to choose variety of options within the Design phase itself.

Yes, you can go into these fields as well but Buying and Merchandising profile generally has people from either MFM or BFtech background.

All the campuses that offers MFM course are good. However, in terms of faculties, crowd, campus environment and few other aspects, you can consider the campus rankings as follows -
1. NIFT Delhi
2. NIFT Bangalore
3. NIFT Mumbai
4. NIFT Gandhinagar
5. NIFT Hyderabad
6. NIFT Chennai
7. NIFT Kolkata
8. NIFT Bhubneshwar
9. NIFT Patna
10. NIFT Bhopal
11. NIFT Kannur
12. NIFT Raibareli
13. NIFT Panchkula
The old campuses are better and valued more in the industry in comparison to the newer campuses. However, the placements are centralised.

@@Rishh05 Yes, I suppose there are chances that you’ll get a campus but it would be either Kannur or Raibareli or Panchkula. Please check last year data on the NIFT website. Which campus students got at your rank.
Also, the locality only matters for students who give much importance to their living experience. Locality affects the living experience of the student, however, it doesn’t matter much to the degree.
