Many abilities look OP and we remain good tanks, but sadly for us that like to solo old content, Paladins get an overall nerf due to the reduced self-healing (no more Judgement of Light). We can't Ardent Defender dance anymore (like we could when soloing Magtheridon in early Wrath), and Blood DKs by far take the lead in terms of self-healing and solo ability. Running out of mana after casting 3-4 Flash of Light is also just....ugh. Holy Power also feels incredibly odd after playing paladin since Vanilla, I'll honestly never forgive them for fundamentally changing a class in such a major way. It'd be like removing combo points for rogues and giving them focus instead.
4 months on and deep into phase 1, i find myself MTing heroic 25. Yes its very much gear based now but i wonder to myself, the very little tanking stats that u do get on a 1h,......are they worth while?? Anyone using any heroic 1h sp weapons while tanking?
How to value spellpower vs. attack power now? Because I think they changed it from spellpower increased by attack power to spellpower increased by strength. Just asking because I dont know which gems to choose.
Our scaling is still more based on attack power than spell power like in Wrath. Strength increased spell power in Wrath through the Touched by the Light talent and that hasn't changed. Strength > AP > SP is our priority still. For gems you'll want to go for Mastery gems. Most important thing is surviving, not doing damage
@@SubtleFW Yes you are right it came from Touched by the Light. I tested it out yesterday, to put on my old SP weapon and looking at the tooltips I figured that SP does not change the damage of holy damage skills at all anymore. It just seems to increase healing now. You may want to test it yourself, but anyway thanks for taking your time!
@@SubtleFW M+ sounds awesome with almost infinite scaling, but with the speed of the timeline they showed it seems they want to speed into Mop Classic. Blizz probably just continuing the Alpha beta gammas into Cata
@@ujustgotpwnd3454 yah fully expect it to just be the titan rune kind of thing again, which isn't the worst at least in the version of it they eventually got to. Does look like Cata will be pretty quick, but MOP is the xpac I'm looking forward to the most, so no complaints here
It's going to be a hard adjustment from Wrath. Getting our shield wall, AD, DSac all nerfed really sucks. I mean, we were very broken, but it still feels bad. Especially since we are just add tanks now.
@@SubtleFW I actually ran a pret pvp build, where I used a spellpower weapon with slow attack speed, but it seems there are only fast attack speed spelldmg weapons arround now. It was viable because you mainly did damage with hitting with your shield and instant exorcism.
As a prot pally main since BC pre patch, god it feels absolutely terrible now. I really dislike holy power, and we feel sooo much weaker than we did in wrath. Unfortunately i think if i play cata it will be another spec which makes me really sad.
So in a nutshell I have to completely relearn my class and how I play? Bleh.... I've got so many hours on my paladin and almost over 9k achievement points, I can't turn back now. I'm not excited at all to become a back seat add tank. Startin to recall why I swapped off pally and quit the game years ago...
It does seem a bit daunting when the changes are all listed together like this, but when you get in and check it out, you'll probably find it isn't too big of an adjustment

It does feel worse than wotlk prot pally overall but I still like the Cata version. It's fun in its own way

Pretty much everything prot pallies do scales with weapon damage and has limited SP scaling, so the much higher damage on str weapons is optimal

It is quite a bit different but honestly still feels great to play
Is weapon speed still a concern in Cata or do we move to using tank weapons?
All of the new non-dagger melee weapons are 2.6 speed now, so not a concern anymore

It's not a big deal you'll get it in like twenty minutes.
Felt the same way back in 09, and it's the same now.
Relearning your rotation now just means every other skill is CS or HoR
