Hell yes, this is why I love low gainy stuff as of late - it just makes it much more rewarding to pick harder
Les Paul into 100 watt Marshall is always a good combination. Sounds killer.
We're champions now! That diode clipping mod sounds really good I think! Good to see you kept it raw for some classic Plexi tones but wait, no SD1 boost test? 😱
Leon Todd and Marshall amps? Instant like!
Instantly took me back decades ago to my first encounter with a Marshall. It was intoxicating. Thanks, Leon.
Owned a 100 watter back in 82 , unforgiving is an understatement.in it’s defense very guitar volume knob friendly!
YES!!! Love the sound of a modded Plexi. So responsive to playing style and not very forgiving. You make it sound great. Added to my bucket list...
One of the best kings x riffs right there.
Yeah!
Nice.. another common trick with a real Marshall tube amp is connect 2 boss GE7 eq pedals and an analog delay thru the front end. This allows control of your gain
ACDC thru Van Halen tones with your foot. My JCM800 rocks this way. No need to modify amp. Of course you need that Master volume control.
Love my 1959 SLP. The quintessential goodness
Nighttttt Prowlerrrrrr!!!!
Sleep in the day
Nighttttt Prowlerrrrrr
Get outta my way!!
Love it, nails that classic Angus tone
beastly with everything up! i bet a tube screamer in front sounds amazing
Marshall should release an amp with just an on/off switch with the 'everything on 11" preset in there.
@@LeonTodd right across the board...eleven...eleven...eleven...all the way up. one louder, isn't it?
Kings x within 3 minutes. Yaaas. And AIC. oooof. I wish I had more hands so I could give this 4 thumbs up
This is a really interesting sounding mod. I was expecting it to be more in line with your tastes *as in the mega chunkatron tones*. But it seems more like an SLP with extra salt and pepper. Great video 🤘
Yeah it doesn't change too much tone wise, just makes it slightly less rude and controlled :D
Great tonal possibilities, this thing sounds great!
Always love that Marshall Superlead goodness!
Good Morning Brother! " Yeay, SLP!"
Doesn't get anymore classic rock than this! Well, maybe add a Strat!
Well done, Thanks for sharing Leon and Thanks Nick! Be Well All!
Dude, that RIF at 6m… I wanted to stand up and clap afterwards!
Sounds insane!!!!
Listening to yours got me pumped to try this one!
At one time I had 2 1978 jmps.
One was lee jackson modded with all the mods from his dvd series and the other one ran 6550s but otherwise stock. Round about, dont mod your marshalls. Just boost the eff out of them with eqs peqs and od pedals.
I loved the hell out of that! Sounds awesome!
A-D A-D all day A-D = happy days
Classic sounds, love it Leon. Unforgiving and raw.
Gradually moving to Them Bones, yes sir
yeah, a rock n roll machine, sounds fantastic and I see you enjoying it Leon Todd :D
If you are going to play all day, I´m totally sure that most of us should like enjoying listening to it ... all day!!!
Great one LT! Lovin that striped down Marshall vibe. Would like to hear it with Boss SD1 pedal and graphic eq. And love those Kings X riffs as well. Thanks for brightening up our days. Things are finally opening up so looking forward to some live music with Ragdoll!
I love Humble Pie sound
Thanks LT for the morning wake up.
Wow. Nice amp. Jose clipping rocks. Very cool. You're playing always makes these vids great too my brother. 🤟🤟💖🤟
sounds great Leon
Would of loved to hear this with a boost in front.
Nice way to enjoy my morning coffee & bourbon creme. ☕🥃
Off to work...
Cheers 🍻
Great amp!!! I have one too and it's my main amp. A new video boosting it and with some post processing can be amazing. Some micro pithc and reverb/delay will make it shine even more. Thanks for sharing this. Saludos from Argentina!!!
Hell Yeah!!! Sounds killer. Thought you were getting ready to play Ace Frehley - Rocket Ride but it was AIC instead. HA!!! With all the combinations inside the FM3 I starting to setup many presets that only use 1 channel /drive pedal and start using the volume/tone on guitar to control the dynamics. Just as you mentioned - changing the picking articulations. More guitar and amp, less switching and tapping.
Fuck Ya! No Nonsense Video... Great approach to sharing this amp! Sincere Respect for the Straight Forward Dialogue... Two Thumbs Up! 👍 👍
I appreciate that mate!
I went from high gain Mesa Mark IV to crunchy Super Lead Plexi clone myself... The plexi circuit exposes my playing shortcomings as they are so unforgiving, I had to correct my own playing technique altogether....20 years I hid behind gobs of gain... Plexi circuit helped me improve my legato playing...
Sounds glorious! 🤘
the amp is great, but the guitar... im always drooling when u pull this one out!
Slays Axe FX .... and so much more fun!
It's funny because I ended up sitting down and tone matching it and it got down to splitting hairs to tell the difference. Still nothing like that all tube smell!
Yes! A tip of the hat for your nod to King's X-In The New Age. They're one of the best riff bands ever but get so little tribute by guys doing demos. Not a big deal but a real nice surprise to hear you play it. Keep up the great work!
YES!!!!!
Sounds delicious
Killer tones Leon, thinking about getting one of these myself.
If you take the Axe model and bring the master volume down to about 7 it sounds scarily close to this.
@@LeonTodd ah cool I’m gonna give that a go. Cheers Leon 👍🏻
Can we get a amp /LB-2 shootout against the model in the Axe-FX?
Hey Leon, couple or three questions for you. 1) how does it compare to the Molecular? Is the Molecular able to be dialed into sounding like the Plexi? 2) have you experience with the Ceriatone All Access 51/101? I ordered a Molecular 50 almost single handedly due to your couple of videos. I wanted to get Nik to build me an amp and saw your videos, it was a no brainier for me. Cheers (iatone). 🤘
I think I like the Jose style diode clipping on the Molecular a lot more than this, but then the non diode clipping stuff on this is a different thing to the Molec. Basically after playing this I've been meaning to message Nik to try order an all access :D
Thanks for the reply. I was on the fence, between Molecular and All Access. I think the AA51 will still be on my wish list. Your couple of Molecular videos pushed me in that direction. I mean it this time damn it, just one more.
So much goodness in this video, where to even start?
Hearing it with the presence off makes me uncomfortable. Haha Presence way up for the extra juice! Treble down to tame the icepick. Of course its just a matter of taste
Presence definitely brings out the beast!
Exactly right!!
Can you speak to the type of master volume added to the amp? Specifically, is it post phase inverter or pre? Pre EQ? (Like the master in a JCM?)
Leon I bought this amp off Nick, I was wondering would you prefer a G12/75 Combo or Vintage 30 Combo in a Marshall Cabinet.. 1960a or 1960b ? what would be your go to? Playing YJM type stuff.
For the Yngwie thing probably 75's. Wicked amp, congrats!
@@LeonTodd slant or straight cab as your preference?
i don't know why but at 7:12 it sounds like early 70's ACDC.
"The Jack" vibes
@@LeonTodd yea definitely
Great sounding amp. Absolutely love a Plexi. I don't believe you said who did the mods. Someone within Australia?
Needs 57 Les Paul junior
Those mods, by your description, make me think of Headfirst Amps. Is he the one who did these?
Dave Fyfe at union Guitars in perth did.
@@LeonTodd Nice,! Sounds great! Thanks!
Is there a specific mod name for the added gain? I have to find the schematic so my tech can do it!
I've been waiting for month for my cheap bugera 1960, copy of a modded-ish plexi, it's been out of stock forever; This just makes me want it even more. It's not like a real 1959slp I can't afford and can't get. I can afford the bugera, I bought it, but I can't even get It. the rage, the sorrow, the cravings.
why you do this to me leon
Got to say not my favorite tone , maybe into a DAW with eventide 3000 :-) lower gains sounded good AC/DC type tones ,I have a carvin legacy combo , dirt channel is very unforgiving ,unless of course I play in stereo and put a tube screamer on it :-) love watching the video's
Hi Leon
sorry this is a late question but is that a Greco LP
wicked demo sounds and playing x
It's a 2002 Gibson Standard premium Plus with the infamous "authentic" tape mod
@@LeonTodd Thank you x
Is that a post phase inverter master volume? I had on an a plexi but the amp lost a lot of body, so I removed it
Who did the mods and what are the mods? Thanks
Hes bleeding from his ears every notes and chords 😂😂😂
That's not an out of phase Peter Green modded lester is it??
Am I going nuts?
Possibly :p
Amp school ?
How could you violate that beautiful amp with crappy diodes!
Is this similar to the dookie mod?
In the same family
@@LeonTodd it would be awesome if you did a video comparing the different Marshall mods!
