- Short video today on how to fabricate a basic alternator bracket for a Y block Ford V8.
I have made this from relatively thin steel which is strengthened by having swage lines folded into it. In this application the bracket is only the 3rd leg of a 3 point mounting system so it doesn't need to be all that strong. That being said I did decide to box it in with another thicker piece of steel spot welded to the rear of the piece.
Unfortunately I have lost the footage of this, and of the final piece installed and painted, so the video looks slightly unfinished, but when we next visit the Y block V8 i'll update you on the finished bracketry.
Very good! At first I felt that the stock was too light to support the alternator, but as I watched I got an understanding of how the swaged lines improved rigidity. Even without the later welded addition I think the bracket would have worked well.
Cheers
Tbf ive not got round to welding the back piece on yet, its a project on the back burner for a while!
Heck, drill some holes and throw some bolts in there and it's done.
What is the alternator original fitimant? What factory make, model, and year of car is it from?
Fabulous Video!
Originally its a dynamo. This alternator is from a Mini, 1990s era
