Finally firing up the y block v8 in the shoebox ford. How did we actually get there? It wasnt as straightforward as it should have been. However a decent battery and getting the water out of the fuel lines certainly helped! @Custommikes swing by the UK and check out our traditional custom scene one day

Looking good and strong. Construction noise must be driving you crazy. Nice haircut BTW.😎👍
@@Socalrick embracing the thinning hair lol
will it have to get a one time M.O.T inspection ?
@@fredjones1238 nope, MOT exempt, body on frame construction so as it has original suspension, steering, axles etc... its got historic registration which it will keep as its not 'radically altered' under the rules.
What size is it please? I couldn't hear very well with the music.
@@simtalkayak sorry, its an HS2, 1.25" venturi
Thanks @@FoxSpeedshop
32mm (ish)
Didn’t see any equipment or procedure. Just words.
@@TheJonwawa you only saw words?
Did you need to see the 1200 grit and 2000, 2500 paper a bit closer up ? I thought explaining what papers were used and showing the outcomes of each of the materials shown was enough, my bad
Is it an expensive process ? I have a 27 year old VW TRANSPORTER.
@@inserter400 £55 to register, import duties are at about 5% nowdays i think
I like the mercs as well but I have actually passed up on mercs because I was waiting for shoebox ford. I agree about the coupe vs two door sedan though, I have two door sedan and plan on chopping it unless I come across a coupe I can afford. To me the perfect car is a 1949 Ford Coupe, lowered, with skirts, either a shaved fuel filler or a fuel door from a 51 grafted in and some 51 trunk hinges to clean it all up. Just a cleaned up mostly stock car though.
i hate chops with mail slots for back windows, but when done right with the window proportional they look so cool
in new zealand we call them a twin spinner or single spinner depending on what grill they have
Yeah thats a very southern hemisphere thing. And you got a ute. Mine is currently a zero spinner, but the grill will be back
Thank you… im thinking on chopping my 54 mrec.

Ah, I look forward to those mods.....
Ooohhh, I've been thinking about an Amr 300 on a 500. I saw a pair of kids doing one once and it blew the head gasket pretty quickly.
@@simtalkayak ive not decided if ill run a renault 5 gtt intercooler or not yet, or the exact pulley sizes, but itll be an interesting experiment i think
@@FoxSpeedshop from what I've gathered they run hot, and that is just how they run, but they do well when cooled. Both oil cooled and intake temps. So, if I had to get one and modify I'd install an oil cooling system for the charger.
@@simtalkayak yeah as far as i can tell from specs they are just cooled by the oil in the case, there is no pump or circulation
What wheels are on the 500, they look banded.
They are 500R wheels so half inch wider with 500 F hub caps fitted
That engine sounds nice and smooth!
Sounds like a warplane ready for take off.
100% does

Nice radiator, I have one like it for the 56'.
Cant beat "whats in the box ".....i guess its going to be more efficient....even smaller.
@@iansavage2885 its a triple core radiator so id hope so, i have also built a fan shroud out of some old mid 50's truck shroud i cut down (the cars never had them) so even with a standard non clutch puller fan on water pump it should cool ok. Unlike the flathead v8 it used to have which has the most awkward fan belt tightening procedure ive built this one with a simple one so it shouldnt slip
Dang, no welder or access to one. Guess mine will remain perforated.
Thank you 🙏👍
Fantastic, glorious Fiat 500. It was one of the greatest Italian prides in terms of small cars, which marked a great era for those years. Always a lot of fun to drive, even if the internal space is extremely limited, including the pedals, which require small feet (for small people). Or, for people with big feet, they currently drive barefoot (without some shoes). As in this video, do you drive with shoes or without shoes?
I have size 10 feet and i can drive this wearing a pair of steel capped work boots, ive never had an issue with pedal size, head room however is another matter!
She does go well.....what fun...well done.
@@iansavage2885 the bounces over the speedbumps are always fun 🤣
Great cam position 👍🏼
Thanks 👍
keep up the good work to hell with general motors
Why in the world are you putting some so-so Y block. With all the work, WHT don't you put in a 50"s/ Early to mid 60's Cadillac or Big Olds 394? Hundreds of guys made Fordillacs out of Ho Hum Shoeboxes.
@@cindys1819 I had a Y block, and being from the UK those other engines arent exactly freely available, plus with the roof chop im going for a mid 50's style custom so a '55 Y block is the perfect era (plus it bolts directly to the original 3 on the tree manual gearbox)
Should the valves be set at TDC or 10deg before TDC ?
Valves at TDC, time it at 10 degrees
Bit odd seeing you talking about something other than computer science
What is the alternator original fitimant? What factory make, model, and year of car is it from? Fabulous Video!
Originally its a dynamo. This alternator is from a Mini, 1990s era
Great job do you do all of this outside on the drive ?
Yep all just out of my drive, avoiding the spring showers...
Why the oil lamp doesn't light up when you turn the key?
I need to replace the pressure switch is all
Great video!! Thanks for choosing our Slosh. The 2 bottles are exactly the same, we require this method to provide some thickness to the coating.Sp10 Tank Kleen is a caustic detergent containing soaps and rust inhibitors, the Slosh is a moisture curing polyurethane sealer.
Good to know, they smelt the same! The tank is also holding up perfectly. Great product
@@FoxSpeedshop that's brilliant, thanks again, these videos really help small businesses

Hi. I’m getting 13-14 V from 51 regardless of whether 67 is connected to it or not. Battery going flat after a long run in the car. Do you think dyno ok and my problem lies elsewhere eg regulator ?
Probably regulator issue yes
You've got a beard
Haha it comes and goes
Nice cameo from Valentino Rossi lol,, great work
Coolest car ever!!!
Quick question I have 1968 fiat 500l with 126 engine fitted tapppet adjusted engine idles fine (sound good) but when I drive it about 3-4miles (drives fine till the car overheats )the engine very hot ( to hot to touch) then cuts out the fan belt and thermostat flap open fine but leave it 5-10 minutes will restart again with full throttle then drive like it should and idles fine but after a couple more miles then cuts out again any suggestions i.e 123 dizzy and new Weber 28 carb??? Fitted Thanks mark
Very common issue with these, could be slightly tight tappets or coil or fuel pump getting too hot, ive read of italian guys chucking a bottle of water over fuel pump when it starts to overheat. I run a twin output wasted spark coil on mine and get none of those issues, though i have in the past, in my case it was that the throttle stop was closing too far and when it got hot itd stall and struggle to start
What if my carburetor is new and there are no air leaks? It's a CV diaphragm type carburetor and there is an adjustment for the diaphragm barrel needle, will that fix it?
Sounds silly but maybe sweat some lead into the seams? Lead is less likely to crack than filler and is a bit more "structural"?
Thats a potential route, i think when i pull the rest out im going to get the mapp torch out and burn out all the sealant tar stuff to make welding it up less horrendous
