Classic Fiat 500 restoration - refurbishing a gear shift linkage
Would appreciate the difficult bits like how do you do the back corners where there is no hole through the steel and you need to attach the black support nylon - where do you screw them?
@@pelkosenjuha the nylon strap is screwed directly to the body. Thats why the cars rust there a lot
I can confirm the camera works 🙌
Pity about the user lol
I drove a 3 speed column shift 1972 Ford E100 van. Shifter sometimes got stuck. Had to go under the van and jiggle the linkage to get it free.
I love the column shift in this, all the torque means you can drive everywhere in 2nd or 3rd so 90% of the time you are just pushing the lever up or pulling it down. Heavy shift knob helps speedy shifts into 3rd too lol
Is it possible to blow through this carb?
@@DayanEngineeringWorks yes, its possible, block fuel bowl vents, use reversed throttle shaft seals like in the MG metro turbo and you have a good start.
Hi there. This fills me full of confidence. Did you originally roll/brush/spray the paint on? Thanks.
@@scottstephen3125 sprayed, but it was a very hot day hence the 'dry' finish
Hi thanks for the video. Ive recently bought a classic car from someone who as had it for 6 years and it was imported from the US. The seller said on the add that its ready for applying for a V4. So is it different than the v55/5? Cheers.
@@briannewman8086 v55/4 is for new vehicles, v55/5 is for used, i think he just made an error
@@FoxSpeedshop Thanks for that mate. Its a total restoration project and he says The car came into the country in 2018 All tax's and duties paid. I have the title but that is all, will this be enough? Cheers.
@briannewman8086 title and NOVA number, ring customs and excise incsse its been over so long ita been on the old pre nova duties system
Your style...plain and simple...Thank you.
Good work
Very cool! I am curious to see how you will install it!
Very helpful video ad i am about to install a 3.5L sump. The original sump takes 2.7L of oil i believe. How much did you use?
@@TheFbca i didnt measure it, just used the fill line on the dipstick to tell me when i was getting close to be honest
Just tried to reassemble mine but the armature wouldn’t fully go through the bendix. Turns out the armature wasn’t the correct one. I only spotted this after looking at the one in your video. The joys of buying used I guess.
Thanks for this - echoing others in that this makes the whole process seem a lot easier. Hopefully it still rings true in 2024!
@@ppcmagazine not imported anything this year but i dont believe its any different now
Badass🔥🔥🔥🫡🫡 I have 2 1950s
Right on! Making progress, hope to see that thing on the road soon.
sounds nice
Does this work for feul injecton engines ? Sr20 specifically?
@@bradleyjanes1985 other than it not referencing a coil pack or sepearate injectors or an ECU power supply the basic principal is the same
I have feul pump starter and ecu hooked up to a switch board but I need to wire my coils to a switch because I just have no spark
This is going to be so cool. Is it possible to blow through the SU? Apparently the Chinese reproduction AMRs have a liner on the rotors that disintegrates after coming into contact with fuel. A blow through would eliminate this issue but a draw through, cools the supercharger. Just stating what I've heard.
Unsure about the rotor coating, i havent heard it, doesnt mean its not correct though! Blow through is more difficult regardless of carb especially with a mechanical fuel pump as a blowthrough setup needs a boost referenced fuel supply, one that increases fuel supply as boost increases to prevent lean running
@@FoxSpeedshop mm, ok, I was hoping that the SU would have a property that I wasn't aware of, that would allow blow through fueling.
Looking good and strong. Construction noise must be driving you crazy. Nice haircut BTW.😎👍
@@Socalrick embracing the thinning hair lol
will it have to get a one time M.O.T inspection ?
@@fredjones1238 nope, MOT exempt, body on frame construction so as it has original suspension, steering, axles etc... its got historic registration which it will keep as its not 'radically altered' under the rules.
What size is it please? I couldn't hear very well with the music.

Did you need to see the 1200 grit and 2000, 2500 paper a bit closer up ? I thought explaining what papers were used and showing the outcomes of each of the materials shown was enough, my bad
Is it an expensive process ? I have a 27 year old VW TRANSPORTER.
@@inserter400 £55 to register, import duties are at about 5% nowdays i think
I like the mercs as well but I have actually passed up on mercs because I was waiting for shoebox ford. I agree about the coupe vs two door sedan though, I have two door sedan and plan on chopping it unless I come across a coupe I can afford. To me the perfect car is a 1949 Ford Coupe, lowered, with skirts, either a shaved fuel filler or a fuel door from a 51 grafted in and some 51 trunk hinges to clean it all up. Just a cleaned up mostly stock car though.
i hate chops with mail slots for back windows, but when done right with the window proportional they look so cool
in new zealand we call them a twin spinner or single spinner depending on what grill they have
Yeah thats a very southern hemisphere thing. And you got a ute. Mine is currently a zero spinner, but the grill will be back
Thank you… im thinking on chopping my 54 mrec.

Ah, I look forward to those mods.....
Ooohhh, I've been thinking about an Amr 300 on a 500. I saw a pair of kids doing one once and it blew the head gasket pretty quickly.
@@simtalkayak ive not decided if ill run a renault 5 gtt intercooler or not yet, or the exact pulley sizes, but itll be an interesting experiment i think
@@FoxSpeedshop from what I've gathered they run hot, and that is just how they run, but they do well when cooled. Both oil cooled and intake temps. So, if I had to get one and modify I'd install an oil cooling system for the charger.
@@simtalkayak yeah as far as i can tell from specs they are just cooled by the oil in the case, there is no pump or circulation
What wheels are on the 500, they look banded.
They are 500R wheels so half inch wider with 500 F hub caps fitted

Nice radiator, I have one like it for the 56'.
Cant beat "whats in the box ".....i guess its going to be more efficient....even smaller.
@@iansavage2885 its a triple core radiator so id hope so, i have also built a fan shroud out of some old mid 50's truck shroud i cut down (the cars never had them) so even with a standard non clutch puller fan on water pump it should cool ok. Unlike the flathead v8 it used to have which has the most awkward fan belt tightening procedure ive built this one with a simple one so it shouldnt slip
Dang, no welder or access to one. Guess mine will remain perforated.
Thank you 🙏👍
Fantastic, glorious Fiat 500. It was one of the greatest Italian prides in terms of small cars, which marked a great era for those years. Always a lot of fun to drive, even if the internal space is extremely limited, including the pedals, which require small feet (for small people). Or, for people with big feet, they currently drive barefoot (without some shoes). As in this video, do you drive with shoes or without shoes?
I have size 10 feet and i can drive this wearing a pair of steel capped work boots, ive never had an issue with pedal size, head room however is another matter!
