The Craft Beer Channel Perhaps, but there is no denying that the beer brewed by Tree House, especially their NEIPAs and their IPAs are outstanding. Never been to Tree House or Trillium....had a friend that spent a week in Boston, and stayed at a hotel about 2 blocks from Trillium....do you think I could get him to go? Nooooooo.....guess not much of a friend! LOL. If you guys make a trip over, should also get up to Vermont, southern Maine, and Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. I will be your personal beer guide here. 35 breweries in our small province of less than a million people, and 10-12 of them are here in the capital city. Everything from Belgian inspired, German inspired, Hoppy style that will give the Headys & Julius' a run for their money, to pretty much everything in between.
Putty is possibly the best NEIPA I've had from the UK. How close are we talking to Treehouse quality? These are so hyped that I wonder if they could ever live up to expectation now. I've had so many absolute bangers from likes of Verdant, CW and Wylam (this last year) that I wonder if I'd be disappointed when I finally get to try Treehouse/Trillium. All that being said, the original GBG Beer Week was mind blowing and is still the best NEIPA I've had in that ABV range. People compare the mouthfeel in that beer to Treehouse and say it's the closest thing you can get so maybe they are still one step ahead.
Mick Porter I completely agree - Verdant, CW and Wylam (plus Northern Monk at times) have produced the most stunning beers I’ve ever had. I’ve unfortunately yet to try out Pliny, Heady T, or Julius and slightly fearful I ever will. But the modern British breweries are knocking out such incredible beers I’d be wary trying out something as hyped as the classics in case they don’t live up to hype. That said - I’m sooooo fucking jealous of CBC getting to try out these beauts.
The most important thing to remember in trying these hype beers is (a) the guys you mention come very close and (b) there will be variation within the style. For example, Heady is INCREDIBLY bitter - like, more than most west coast IPAs - while Trillium beers are often very dank and savoury. Always go in with an open mind, even if you think you know what to expect. That way, the disappointment is gonna be as subjective as possible.
You shouldn't expect Tree House to be next level compared to some of the best EU stuff you've mentioned. I think a lot of the best IPA's from EU are equally as good as most of the hype train American stuff (Tree House, Trillium, The Veil, Other Half, Monkish, Equilibrium). I think the biggest difference is perhaps that the US hype train breweries tend to deliver mindblowing beers on a more frequent basis. My current favourites are Monkish and Equilibrium.
I've had a handful of Treehouse beers (Julius, Lights On, Bright and a few more) and I love their beers. Where Trillium are masterful and refined I think Treehouse bring big flavours. Jonny, do you own a lot of white Levi t-shirts?
Haha, yes I do. Trying to get them to sponsor the channel. It isn't working. I also think the Treehouse beers tend to be smoother and more refined - plus Trillium love the danker side I feel.
Is it not the coolest thing ever that you all can enjoy legit NEIPAs and we in the states are able enjoy lambic styles????? The world is flat indeed, and it's an awesome time to be a beer drinker. I live in Kansas City which is literally smack-dab in the middle of the US ("flyover country" as it were) and I took a road trip to Boston a couple years ago to taste some of these beers. My favorite Treehouse was actually the gaffe that came out at the end of this video, a pale ale called "Lights Out". Treehouse was great, and the atmosphere was really cool with the manicured landscaping and colonial forest countryside. However, my favorite brewery from the trip was Trillium, specifically a double-dry hopped pale ale called "Fort Point" and a fruited sour with lactose called "Escape Plan". If you get a chance to try Trillium you will not be disappointed.
If you don't then probably best not to have an opinion on trading as you clearly don't have a scrooby on what you are talking about. First off, you are currently talking about core beers from Treehouse, they are dropping 12-24 cans per person per beer daily...which is not exactly hype train or rare. Furthermore most people trade hops for hops, but if you bothered to investigate then you would know that . If you are going to do videos please do a little bit of research into understanding the distribution (yes treehouse publish this daily from their website... this will give you an indication of the hype beers just based on distro), failing that join some FB or other social media grps that are mad keen to get some solid credible evidence of the demand from the community. The review of the beers, absolutely agree and some solid insights, as for the rest some due diligence would not go amiss.
Hi Cuan, thanks for commenting. I have done extensive research into trading having worked in the industry for 5 years and socialised and discussed these issues with countless people who do trade. To be clear, I have no issue with the idea of trading hops or imp stouts - only the systems and pricing that comes with it. Which is more of a personal thing. However, I do have significant issues with the trading of allocated beers - where breweries carefully work out their export markets and quantities to be as fair as possible, only for them to be hoovered up and sent elsewhere at gross mark-ups. My statements in the video only refer to this side of the grey market.
