Infopesa, the Peruvian music label founded by producer Alberto Maraví,was the powerhouse at the centre of the golden age of Peruvian music. Responsible for introducing Peruvian Cumbia to the world, it became a factory of hits in the 70s & 80s.
Since 2011 Maraví’s son, Juan Ricardo Maraví, has dedicated his time to revisiting and re-invigorating Peru’s most important musical catalog, with vinyl reissues that have awakened interest all around the world and also in Live Vinyl Sets titled: Infopesa Vinyl Mix, performed in countries such as : Mexico, Spain, Portugal, France and Peru.
"In this selection I wanted to showcase the diverse musical genres of Infopesa and take the listeners on a musical journey with some of the best cuts from our catalog. This music brings so much joy to me and in a way I feel it's also part of my DNA as my dad produced all these music recorded by incredible Peruvian artists. I hope you guys enjoy it too :) "

No sabía que existía la cumbia psicodélica y que es de Perú. EXCELENTE MÚSICA!!
No es cumbia psicodélica. La psicodelia no es un género músical. Algunas de las canciones que se presentan son chicha, género musical peruano (por ejemplo la de Los Mirlos, Los Orientales de Paramonga, Los Invasores de Progreso, Los Beltons, Juaneco y su Combo). No lo son la de Los Cariocas, Grupo América, ... La chciha es un género musical que se formó de otros géneros, rock, soul, cumbia, vals criollo, huayno, pitillo, son, etc... se inicia a fines dee l d´cada de los 60. El padre de este género es Enrique Delgado. Diversos estudios sociológicos coinciden que la chicha es música, baile, expresión cultural, que fue tomando cuerpo a lo largo dee 20 a 25 años. Su característica propia es el uso de la guitarra eléctrica de forma muy particular. Se resiste a usar el término de chhicha por razones discriminatorias en el Perú, se le asocia con lo marginal, grotesco o no criollo.

Ninguna de las canciones de este mix son chicha, a excepción de "Cumbia Inca" de los Invasores que incorpora elementos andinos y hasta sintetizadores. Exponentes de la chicha en Perú son Los Shapis, Chacalon, por ejemplo. La chicha tiene un sonido y estructura diferente. Los creadores son Los Shapis, quienes lo llamaron Música Tropical Andina, por mezclar la cumbia con elementos de la sierra Peruana. Fue una revolución musical y el surgimiento de la identidad del migrante en la capital en sus años ebullición (70s si no me equivoco). Meter la guitarra en la cumbia fue un aporte de Perú que ocurrió por el mero hecho de que en la época que surgió todo esto estaban muy de moda Los Beatles y la formación de bandas con ese estilo. Mucha de la cumbia de oro limeña, por ejemplo, tiene esa estructura y no es chicha, sino cumbia. Chicha se asocia a algo más Andino, y en la actualidad a algo más callejero, por así decirlo.

my step father died in 96.. he was from nicaragua. I missed his music in the house so much. One of the men from my neighborhood was a latin dj. He sat with me for hours a few weekends in a row and we paired down the sound to what I remember and put it on a CD. I love this sound.

Know this about Infopesa. Enrique Delgado of the band Los Destellos recorded the original songs of the band Los Wemblers and brought those recordings to the band Los Mirlos. These songs were then re-recorded at Infopesa Records catapulting Los Mirlos into fame while Los Wemblers remained in obscurity. These songs were core to the golden age of Peruvian Cumbia. Remember Los Wemblers.
