The problem in Osteen’s message is his promotion of name-it-claim-it or word-faith theology: “We have to conceive it on the inside before we’re ever going to receive it on the outside,” Osteen writes. “If you don’t think you can have something good, then you never will. The barrier is in your mind. . . . Your own wrong thinking can keep you from God’s best. . . . To experience [God’s] immeasurable favor, you must rid yourself of that small-minded thinking and start expecting God’s blessings, start anticipating promotion and supernatural increase. You must conceive it in your heart before you can receive it. In other words, you must make increase in your own thinking, then God will bring those things to pass” (from Your Best Life Now, chapter 1). There is nothing biblical about such teaching. There is no power inherent in positive thinking, and we do not create our own realities. God is not our servant, standing by and waiting for us to fire up our imaginations so He can lavish us with material goods. Jesus told His followers to “give up everything you have” (Luke 14:33), not to seek to get more.
More often than not, Osteen sounds like an inspirational life-coach, instead of a herald of the gospel. He often preaches about how people can improve their lives, be prosperous, and experience happiness. Noticeably absent in Osteen’s optimistic message is any mention of sin or repentance. The atonement of Christ provides us with healing and the abundant life, according to Osteen, but apparently receiving forgiveness from a holy God is not necessary.

Yes I agree I had a client of mine had to come over to my house one time and I had Joel on the TV she was getting some stuff from me the volume was low in the background ( She is a buddhist ) we had a nice conversation about Christianity I guarantee it that would not have happened at any church I know. Your conscience (the little voice in your head) might be condemning or berating you from time to time, but you must put it all behind you, gather yourself, try to wash yourself clean with self-forgiveness or self-acceptance, AND THEN MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIFE AND WALK IN FELLOWSHIP WITH THE LORD. Life is too short to keep accusing yourself with your mistakes. I have been so severely abused all my life that I have been listening to this over and over trying to grasp this kind of love and forgiveness. I am so thankful for this sermon. Thank you so much!
In the spring of 2015 this veteran Christian me, was down on myself for mistakes and bad decisions. I was so depressed I even attempted suicide in the hospital. Then I had a stoke. Wound up in a nursing home unable to stand up on my own. I listened to Joel and others daily. I walked out if there 16 months later the most joyful, happy, person I e ever been. I changed my mindset to knowing I am righteous because of what Jesus did. My past is under His blood. The joy of the Lord is my strength.

I’m going all out a little personal but I ask you all to pray for me and my family we are in financial big debt and as time goes by we get worst and worst paying bills bills and more bills have 4 kids daycare car insurance went up due to car accidents it seems impossible everyday more and it has brought conflict in my relationship with my Fiance arguments over money him wanting to achieve his dreams as a professional cyclist and he is soo good at it that I believe in him I don’t pray for riches I just pray to be able to go to sleep without that worry of my light getting cut off or my car breaking down or water getting cut off please pray for me 🙏🙏🙏

He never wants to talk about sin and the how much god should mean to people how dirty and disgusting and unworthy all sinners are before Christ. He preach what people wants to hear but rarely the words of god. He also preach law of attractions. You know it’s hard to listen to him if you read the Bible everyday. Let’s all pray for joe osteen🙏 it’s ALWAYS ALL about helping yourself or what god can give you and not how we can serve god better and understand him and love him and grow more.... but don’t get me wrong it’s okay to speak positive and have faith but it’s not always about positive and always speak faith so that god can give you what you want. No. God can’t just do what you want sometimes that’s his plans,........I only consider him only as a motivational speaker not a pastor or a preacher. Let’s all pray for him he really needs Christ 🙏 he only preach what people wants to hear ....the Bible is only our reference . This message just woke me up an made me realize that I have been focused to much on my sins and now looking forward to the future clearly I’m looking forward towards the future and god is with me but some how I still feel guilty of my sins and immortal sins. I used to be that way too. Then I heard God say to my spirit one day "So you think that my Son's Blood is not Powerful enough to cleanse your sin? You are more powerful than God?" that woke me up quick. Then I heard Him say to my spirit "You're guilty of stealing." I said "What? How?", & He said "Because my Son paid the price for all of your sins, the guilt, & the shame in full & you won't let go of it. Therefore you're illegally in possession of something that belongs to me.". WOW! God really knows how to get through to us in a way that we can understand! Hopefully my experience will help you as well. We can't earn Salvation or God's Grace. It's a free gift that's not based on what we've done or who we are, but SOLELY on God's Goodness & Mercy through Jesus' Sacrifice. When we're reminded of the guilt & shame, we have to remind ourselves that we're FULLY forgiven. Blessings to you and your family!!! 💜💜💜🙏-Bridget

Amen I blame myself everyday for the mistakes I have made. I had kids without being married and etc. I’m always negative about everything in my life. But I know since I don’t have a supportive family. God has always blessed me . My daughter passed away, and my family prayed for me. Guess what I’m here I don’t do drugs or drink alcohol. I am blessed! But I’m not where I want to be at this time. I’m getting older and I feel like I will always receive assistance, and I have a college degree going for my bachelors degree in health care management. I need to turn my mind around . I'm certainly glad that he bought it to my attention in a Time such as I am in in our life as reckless as I have lived... I was listening for hope, perhaps he's God's messenger, he seem to have mastered the art... I'm glad about it... Glory to God for the gift of assurance that he has given this individual.. reminding mankind the God is able to reach down under lowest of lows...
