I’m a 61 year old woman, just put a deposit on a 2022 Superjet!! I had a Kawasaki 550 stand up in in my late 20s and can’t wait to ride again! Fun watching you ride 😂
I grew up on a Kawasaki X2 from back in the day when a "jetski" was a challenge to ride. Unlike the small boats they call " Jet skis" in more recent years. Glad to see they are bringing back real jet skis again where it actually takes skill and coordination to ride the thing..
theres still a huge group of us riding and modding x2's like never before. They are such a blast, I love mine. they make the new super jet look like a yacht, but i cant say I dont want one!
5:00 tether engine cut-off lanyard … I used to ride these when the steering was spring loaded to full left and there was no idiot lanyard … the motor would idle and the ski would circle around … you'd swim to intersect the circle … it was quick and safer than a disabled ski with the engine off and needing to fumble around and try to get the lanyard reconnected … just grab the throttle and let the ski pull you out of the water and get going before the next wave … also, back then, skis weighted "nothing" and didn't carry momentum … not like PWC 'ride on boats' today.
Those were only useful if you kept the stock bars, which nearly nobody did. Manufacturers figured out the idle-around led to more issues than it prevented. Lanyards area also pretty typical safeties in nearly every motorsport where the operator can become separated from the craft. If you're into motorsports and not just a weekend poser, it's second nature and seems obvious honestly.
Just got my 2022 in the water this past weekend. Your summary of riding it and using your body weight to control it are spot on. It took me a while to figure that out and get used to it but it was awesome once I did. I need to show this to my wife because she was giving me crap about being over the "official" weight limit on the sticker by 20 lbs, lol
Yamaha didn't "Bring back the standup", they've been making a standup model continuously since 1994. Kawasaki has produced a standup since 1974. When did they go away?
Great video! Side note. Our family all rides Stand-ups. Our daughter rides a Js550 and she's 8. Id say that theres a learning curve but not that much of one. 9/10 of my friends struggle a little when learning... For the most part. They've all found it very easy! The older Js kawasaki's are only 24 inches wide. Try that on for size! lol. Again' Great Video!
What a great, honest review. Looking something fun for my kids to do - we've had jetskis, boats but never the right combo. I think i'm going to get one of these for the boys and a cheap outboard bowrider kids can waterski behind.
I'm dying to try and maybe buy one. I'm not sure why Yamaha is bothering to promote this in Canada as they have basically made almost none avalible. It's good to see a fellow big rider give it a go!
HEY TRUCK! I have a 1996 Yamaha Wave Raider 1100! Useully runs great! But it stalled twice on me out there....installed new Start/Stop Switch Box & new Starter Solenoid! When I jump the Solenoid terminals it cranks over fine! Nothing when I hit the Green Start Button!!! There in No Power to the White Start/Stop Connector comming from the CDI Box!!! Any idea's?
I grew up on sit down pwcs.. We have a couple vintage pwcs, and a couple modern as well. Not gunna lie they do get a tad boring after awhile. My entire life I’ve always dreamed of riding a stand up ever since the video game wave race on Nintendo 64 came out but seeing people look like goofs crashing it every 30 feet trying to learn has always turned me off. Seeing you, a bigger guy get on and ride with ease having a blast has made me confident to wanna get a superjet. I too am a bigger guy (I hide my weight well as I’m heavy but don’t look it) They do look like they are larger and more stable then the old stand ups which helps a lot. I think you sold me on getting one!
Because anyone can just sit down and take off on a sea doo or waverunner without ever even riding one befor. These you have to actually take time to learn and it’s more challenging which turns people off.
@@JoshuaDomoslai Yeah...I know...I used to own one. Best shape of my life at the time many many many years ago (10 years ago). It ruined me for couches (sit-downs). they just are not fun for more than one day, one hour.
Great review 👍. Sounds fun had a couple jets skis back in the late 80's early 90's. You failed to mention the jet on the parts your bathing suit covers, taking off laying in the water. Be very careful doing that. And wow for HP!
@Austin You use your knees & read the water on a jet ski, & the waves are for jumping, if they are large enough. Wake boats can toss a 550 ten feet + in the air. And you don't ride for three hours. The tank holds 3.3 gallons. If you can ride that tank near dry, it's one hour & ten minutes. And you are tired, even with excellent technique. The sit down just hurts your butt. You know this. And the calm water is for carving slalom. Which you get to do after three seasons of practice. Jet skis weigh 240lbs.
OM f'ing G... I just had to respond to this. Can a fat guy ride a stand up Jet Ski 🤔. I'm 6'4", and at the time (1985 in Jamaica on our honeymoon weighed 280). I never managed to get up on the thing, as every time I gave it some throttle and began to pull myself forward to try and kneel then stand, the water jet would blow my trunks off. I'd let go, the machine would idle back in a circle as I swam frantically for my sinking trucks and my white backside exposed for all to see on shore and near me on other watercraft. Certainly was my John Candy "The Great Outdoors" moment. This happened about half a dozen times before they brought out from shore a machine that had a fitted plastic oversized hull that would allow a "FAT GUY" ride... Good times 🤙
@@TruckKing without the tether it will actually circle back to you and you don't have to swim. They also never stopped making stand ups. Nice video overall. Thx.
@@LukeBuzzardnot all skis will circle back. They have to be designed to. Tether is still the only way to go even with a ski that will circle. Not all instances of ending up in the water is as simple as someone just falling off. If your actually in an accident or hit something that damages the handlebars or throttle control, the ski can be stuck full open. The throttle cable can also get stuck without being in an accident. Rider can also be knocked unconscious and you don’t want the ski to circle around and over someone in the water. The bars can also get locked in a position and not just lean left or right so it may not even circle anyway, it can just idle further and further away from the person in the water. Just wear the tether and swim to the ski.
You can definitely tell who has grown up riding one vs what we’re seeing in this video respectfully! Start off like your on a boogie board and then pull your self up with your arms and then use your legs to stand up that why they call it a “stand up jet ski” let your legs and balls hang off the back to start almost like getting a BH back in HS then work your way up to the stand once you gain speed and control. What you did and showed is the wrong way to learn and show others how to ride respectfully!

What does the sticker say 250?
Any updates on your skills, video, Facebook or Instagram?
I had an old Kawasaki Ski 20 some years ago and im thinking of getting another.
what is the weight limit? My buddy has one and Im 290 lbs and i reide his no problem

I haven’t seen one of these out on the water in a few years. Always fun to watch when you have guys that can do some serious tricks with them.
Yeah, brings me back to classic watercraft days.
My Ex has the same motor. That thing must pull hard. Lots of torque
Great machine, lots of fun just the price is ridiculous
Amazing ride man one big guy to another
That's a lot of HP for that little thing! Looks like a blast!
I hate going to the gym, so I got a stand up.. kicks my ass, it’s fun, and I sleep well after a day of it.
Oh my God I just had the same experience yesterday
I can fit it in the back of my SUBARU awesome!

Love the boat and watercraft reviews!
Love the jet ski videos
Falling down at the lake is half the fun!
Pretty cool and you improved quickly !
These are the hardest vehicle I have ever ridden took me a day to figure it out
They are so easy!!! Basic athletic skills
I bet you were sore the next day. Nice review. 👍
It was an endeavor the first few tries
Also how long can you ride the thing before it wears you out?
This guy a hour!

Looks lot better than my Kawasaki 1500 which is to big and heavy. Looks like the art department put in a big effort, 10 out of 10 for graphic design.
Someone should of mentioned riding on your kness first then gradually working your self up ,!
very interesting equipment
Try riding an old 550… and you think 30 inches is skinny and that thing is wobbly 🙄🙄

That's basically how we felt - There were a lot more bails/spills off camera!
Don't know much about these
God Canadian laws are so stupid
nice swimming simulator
I would tie a tether to my ankle from the craft because things can drift away pretty fast, faster then you can swim.
I attach it to my lifejacket - had a scary situation when it slipped off my wrist once.
Dude could u make a vid of the new sxr 1500 too im torn inbetween models
Sadly there is not one available to us.

What's the difference between tether disconnect and letting go of the handlebars?
When the tether pops off the engine cuts out. Otherwise it would continue to idle and the Superjet would run away from you in the water.

Should have had Papa Elmer try a few launches on this thing. Would have payed out on the view count I bet.
Cant really see what it can do when the rider weighs as much as the machine
