He operates on some plain between madness and genius. The man is a living legend.
if he didn't channel the madness into art he would probably not be so great, fortunately he knew how to use it wisely.
"My main goal for Lightning Bolt is to deliver Energy". In my experience, he's achieved this. When I saw them at Levitation a few years ago, that is exactly what happened. The energetic exchange between them and the audience was so visceral, unlike any other band I've seen, apart from maybe Oh Sees. They would play, and I would be utterly depleted of any shred of vitality that I had remaining, quite literally feeling that I was going to pass out in the middle of the show, and not from heat exhaustion, they were playing in an open tent at an outside festival. The second they would rev up and begin their next song, it felt like a surge of kinetic energy would overcome me, and I would be right back at it again, dancing and jumping like a maniac, completely out of control. Their entire set was like that, as if they were breathing life into the audience, and the audience returned the favor after each song, and I haven't experienced anything close to it since. A truly life changing experience, and I am not exaggerating when I say this. Their name is all too apt, considering.
Hypermagic Mountain is one of my all time favorite records.
That's the first one of theirs I got into and one of my favorites too! Such a tripp
this guy is awesome
Aww he seems like such a sweet dude
giles corey fucking slaps dude
Can confirm he is! I met him after a show and he was super chill and down to earth, love the dude!
"America's been a mess for years now."
That was 2015.
I start to wonder what Chippendale's vocals sounds like with no effect and a clear microphone... As sometimes I don't understand what he says on some parts of the songs.
Slow it down 25 percent in audacity, much easier
That's the point brother
@Octavio Baldovino *heaven
Talking about free jazz makes perfect sense for this music
My all time favorite drummer
It's an important time to pay attention but a hard time to figure out what to do.' So true bro! Glad some one else gets that
I am here in 2020 and the last minute of this interview is like a prophecy.
So rad. Such talent.
add &
1:20 and nobody still understands a word XD
I didn't know he had lyrics
💀 💀 💀
Chippendale gets all the attention, but for me what makes lightning bolt is Gibson's punishing guitar. Its almost like he's mad at the crowd, and wants to hurt your ears, with his pointless abuse of the 1st and 2nd strings at the beginning of their songs...then he falls into a groove like he's got something to prove, and absolutely wrecks faces.
It’s a bass
You should play Gibson's rhythm game, Thumper. That shit has crazy energy
Its a bass with guitar/banjo strings played through a digitech whammy and at least 2 full stacks with the hardest hitting drummer ive ever seen...
Yes!!
i like that you left a comment on this video 2 yrs ago that says "hell yes!"
real commitment
@@davego2160 i noticed that too. I watch it all. Numerous times. 😆
Chip is my hero. Check my videos brother
hell yes
Anyone know what the song is at 3:30? Sounds awesome
"Colossus", probably one of the most accurate song titles to match its music perfectly ever.
Materialists in a crumbling (collapsing) world.
Young people have a lot to worry about.
*_SPACE IS THE PLACE_*
Why the other Brian never appears in the interviews?
If I remember correctly, he's kind of shy and he's not actually a big fan of performing live either.
@@zachkent2575 yea in every interview he’s done you can tell he’s really uncomfortable. Theres one where he flat out says “this is pretty awkward”
If people are scared of his mask then they shouldn't be at a lightning bolt show
I rather listen to his music than his philosophy
