High cortisol levels have been shown to break down muscle mass and also impair body's ability to burn fat as efficiently. So you might think you need to take a break from exercise but this isn't the answer and it could make things worse. It's about finding movement that works for you. Don't underestimate the power of walking either. I'll be guiding you through a full body dumbbell workout that will work your muscles without causing big cortisol spikes. Please remember I can't give advice for every individual so If you have any doubts consult your healthcare provider.

Thank you very much for this explanation.
People like me with a very active nervous system and a very sensitive body greatly appreciate exercise. It calms the body and calms nervous activity, as well as the brain. Exercise with weights helps me a lot. Walking also helps me, but exercising with weights more so. So the work you do uploading videos is an invaluable help. You don't know the well-being for the life you produce. This is my experience but every body is different. I hope each of us finds our way to feel good☺️
Thank you very much Olivia. Wish you all the best❤❤❤

It's great to see you doing a beginner dumbbell workout, since they are the most essential workouts for women. Hopefully, it encourages more to do them regularly. I have been doing your dumbbell workouts for a long time, but I will definitely be doing this beginner one soon. They are the best. Thank you very much.

How does the weight of the dumbbells impact the effectiveness of this workout? Does it mean a lighter dumbbell will help me burn less? I added weights to my wrists coz my dumbbells are quite light. Does it work?

Cortisol level has to do with intensity of the workouts? I can't understand this, help please

High intensity workout drive cortisol levels up. It not the issue for majority of us but for some it becomes problematic.

Hi Olivia. What is your resting heart rate, if you don't mind me asking? Just so I know where your base is, because you said 120 heart rate and mine did not go up that high. My average resting heart rate is about 47 - 51. I understand we are all different and that you are not a medical practitioner. I have also had my heart checked - all is good, my heart rate is just a bit low.

    • @oliviafitlawson

It really varies but generally around the 70 mark. I wouldn’t worry. Mine at time goes to low 50 too. 😊
