to answer Ariel's question, if the answer hasn't already been looked up, Koreans do use quotation marks in their novels! I've also seen dashes be used at the start of speech to indicate someone is talking, like they use in French books

About the translation question about quotation marks: translating quotation marks is an integral part of the translation, unless you're going for keeping the local flavor of the source language in your target language.

That scent! When Raeleen asked the question I also knew my soapy answer immediately. I don't know what they use in Canadian malls but I love the scent of the soap in my public library's bathroom. When I worked there, I asked our cleaning/maintenance person "what IS that scent? do you have a bottle?" and it was just a giant unmarked bottle of pink soap. I've spent years tracking it down and the closest I can find is Jergen's Original Scent which is Cherry Almond. Buff City Soap company sells a bar of Cherry Almond soap and it is so similar and delicious. I've also been able to find other lotion brands selling something similar as Sweet Almond. I wonder if that's the scent your talking about and I hope this post helps you find more!

If y’all want to read some more Margaret Atwood, you should read “The Edible Woman”! It’s actually her first novel; I picked it up randomly at the beginning of the year and loved it. The main character finds herself suddenly unable to eat after getting engaged. It’s very unsound woman, but with a lot of analysis of capitalism and women’s place in it. There’s a very good quote near the beginning about the dread of signing up for your company’s pension that I love!
I loved Lady Oracle for similar reasons!
Loved hearing you talk about concerning my daughter, Ariel! I loved that book and as a lesbian with a mother who is unaccepting I thought it was SO well written and accurate. Just like you said, I actually didn't even hate the mother because she was that well written. I'd love to hear you two review more gay/lesbian books ♥♥♥
I also had those candy cane stripe converse! I honestly wish they still fit lol they were such a look. My favorite were ones with flames on the side.

the quotation mark conversation just sparked this memory that i remember learning about dialogue starting with a dash and not quotations! i wonder if its just a portuguese thing and i feel like it was specifically only in the first years of school.

Converse note: I remember my 5th grade school photo in 1989. I was sitting in the front row in my school uniform and my high top turquoise converse. Those are the only converse I've ever had.

Breasts and eggs was really popular a few months ago. Now everyone is onto Heaven. I don’t think you’d be able to check out Heaven as easily right now.
I would recommend reading the second Atwood book richtig away. There are so many things refering to the first book and Im really annoyed of myself by now, because first time I read them I let so much time pass between them and then I wanted to reread them all toghether last year and AGAIN just got to the first one . 🙄
I have a copy of Breasts and Eggs... maybe I'll try get it read too!
