Christina Poulitsi. A greek goddess... Excellent performance in a very difficult aria. Voice full of passion, with an incredible command of trills. She is a soprano with great flexibility in high-lying velocity passages, yet with great sustaining power...Thank you Christina for the beautiful trip to our dreams.
Joshua Guerrero is my kind of tenor. All that inherently gorgeous "sympatico" in the voice. That constant weeping in the center of the tone, that ping, that excitement...and all that black hair. Yes indeed! Yes indeed!
Oh dear. Is it just me, or is Domingo's conducting painfully slow? Ouch. If these young singers needed a review in proper diaphragmatic costal breathing, they got it in this competition. Ouch again.
With opera the range of voice shouldn't be the main theme of these competitions it's is the quality of voice at the ranges or just at middle pitch not "look how high I can sing" In Don't know her name but the woman in the pink dress at the start had a beautiful sensual voice with great expression and then the woman in blue with the blonde hair had incredible range but her tone was awful.
Domingo is either showing his age or his lack of conducting skills (probably both.) Orchestra problems abound and are all his fault. He is buried in the score, his tempi run consistently slow and there is little to no vitality in his sound. Energy is lacking and these singers need as much support as can be given from a very experienced conductor; and Domingo does not fit the bill. A great tenor, a lousy baritone and a frustrated conductor. I should know, I had to work with the famous ARM trio from SFO.
I have sung professionally for 40 years and conducted many operas and Broadway shows for the last 30 years. I know what singers need and so should Placido. I sang with NYCO, SFO, about 25 regional U.S. companies and in Europe and Asia. I have been associated with several colleges and award winning choruses. I have sung with many world renown conductors and know precisely what makes a good conductor and Domingo is a very good musician but he is no conductor.
Well, surprise: I'm an eager concertgoer. Not a professional musician, but you know what? Music is actually made for the listener. And die-hard fans are a disgrace.
Andrey Nemzer, Wonderful!!! Hope he doesn't get stuck in Baroque. Sounds like a sopranist who could possibly do Komponist and Octavian maybe the Bellini Romeo? Isolier? If the music doesn't like to high, I'd love hear him in Strauss and Bel Canto. This Aria is wonderful. What's it from?
@@clefnoteproductions6695 I've heard that "1934 passport" urban myth for years. I've never seen any supporting evidence. Every reliable source available says he was born in January of 1941. In 1934 his mother, Pepita Embil, was a 16-year-old beginning her career as part of the Euzko-Abesbatza, a Basque choir. She made her debut at the Liceu while the choir was in Barcelona on April 12, 1934. From that point, she toured Europe constantly with Basque choirs, as there was suppression of the Basque by Franco during the Spanish Civil War. She settled in Paris in 1939 and when it was safe she returned to Spain settling in Madrid where she joined the zarzuela company led by composer Federico Moreno Torroba. Placido Domingo Ferrer was a member of the same company, and they married on April 1, 1940. Placido Domingo Embil was born on January 21, 1941. If his mother and everyone reliable source are lying about his age and he is indeed 85 he is the most amazing singer who has ever lived! Even singing at age 78 to a standard that brings bravos is jaw-dropping. Certainly, his baritone is not as sure-footed as his tenor voice. But he's still well worth hearing. And the generosity and encouragement he has shown over young singers over the years are to be applauded.
@@Beachmom64 if you seek out his biography in German, there's a picture of his passport which clearly shows 1934 as his birth year. That would be his European passport, not his USA passport
Neoklis, I heard no trills in her performance, saw and heard the lack of poor breath support. If you call what she did at the end trilling, think again!!! And what is her with arms! Sorry, but there were stronger, more technically prepared singers than her.

I wasn't that impressed with the Sonnambula and Rigoletto selections. I don't think the soprano in Sonnambula will singing lower lying Bel Canto repertoire. The tenor in Manon also over sang for his lighter lyric voice. The tenor in Rigoletto sang way to big, I'm not sure he'd make it through the role singing that way.
A lot of shouting. These young singers should listen to JUSSI BJORLING, ELIZABETH RETHBERG, TNSCHEMACHER, MARIA CEBOTARI, LUISA TETRAZZINI, LEMESHEV, MERRILL, GIGLI, LANZA

GO FOR IT
Joshua Guerrero is my kind of tenor. All that inherently gorgeous "sympatico" in the voice. That constant weeping in the center of the tone, that ping, that excitement...and all that black hair. Yes indeed! Yes indeed!
This might be the first good countertenor I have ever heard - I actually liked it! Nemzer is amazing. :)
yes, indeed. there are so very few good countertenors that sound like females, most have that awful timbre nad small voices.
Christina Poulitsi soprano (Greece, 31) ... bravaaaa!
Amanda Woodbury, wow!
lasri has the fantastic tenors ring not heard very often these days............bravo abdellah
Wow. Rachel Willis Sørensen. Fantastic singing.
and the winners are Andrey Nemzer and Christina Poulitsi
Not surprising that Amanda Woodbury is now starring at the Met. She's fantastic.
Carol Garcia was amazing! Great coloratura!
So far I love the Capuleti and Cenerentola selections.
WOW !!!!!! Christina Poulitsi soprano (Greece, 31)
Mariangela Sicilia soprano (Italy, 28) Awesome!!!
I am impressed with Rachel Willis-Sörensen - a voice to watch esp. in this repertory. Domingo fell asleep in the orchestra pit during her aria though!
Who won this most beautiful compilation..
Complimenti sinceri. Molto interessante. Belle voci. Molto bello. Grazie
Andrey Nemzer, you should NOT HAVE better high notes than me! LOLOL! WOW! BRAVO! #LoveMeSomeCountertenors
Thank you! ;)
Unbelievable beautiful!
Rachel Willis - Amazing, big voice.
Nemzer - amazing countertenor, unlike most others he has a nice timbre and big voice.
Mamma mia! I've never enjoyed the mad scene from Hamlet... until now. Brava!
Una orchestra stupenda!!!
Alisa Kolosova, bravissimo!
Joshua is just so outstanding. Is this even a competition!

Carol Garcia BRILLANTE.UNICA!!!!
Amanda Woodbury soprano (USA, 26) AMAZING !!!!!

Alisa Kolosova Brava 🎼🌷🌷🌷🌷🎼
Mucho éxito Mario Chang, Que bonita voz.

Rachel Willis sings like Renee Fleming
Racher has much more weight in her voice.
@@alicjaalvena1120 Yes! Rachel is a dramatic soprano, whereas Renée is a full lyric. They're very different voices.
Wake me up when this is over.

It looks like Quazimoto conducting. Or did he drop something?

no wander why people nowadays don't listen to opera anymore, if this is the best we have

He's been speaking English for many years.
