  • This is what an average work day looks like for a burial vault, installer. And a headstone cleaner. Most days, a burial vault man works one service. Or two, and if the timing works, a third service may be done as well. At kelly Vault Company, we are an ultimate service provider, which is the highest level of committal service setup available. It's a certification given out by Wilbert Corporation, and providing setups that qualify for this program sometimes requires more time to set up. Some vaultmen are able to do far more services because their company only requires them to place the vault base in the grave with the lid to the side, which takes far less time. I began headstone cleaning because sometimes the grave diggers would leave a mess on the family's headstone. So I would clean it before the family arrived. I now donate veteran headstone cleanings. Any chance I get, and I was able to complete over two hundred and fifty headstone cleanings last year.

Smooth operation. Here in CT the vault is lowered into the ground by truck with a hydraulic winch on the bed. The casket is on the straps over the vault but the rollers are a great addition. All too many times I've seen pallbearers struggling with a casket and stumbling over the boards to get the casket on the straps. Last of all when the casket is lowered into the vault (after the family has left) a backhoe drives up, a chain is wrapped onto the scoop and the two iron hooks at the end of the chain are attached to eyelets embedded in the vault cover. The cover is lifted and the cemetery workers guide the lid onto the top of the vault.

How do you do all of this by yourself? You have to be worn out by the end of day. My hat is off to you sir.

@@travelinben1966 yes. There are vaults with double seals to prevent any water intrusion.
