Sterling didn't start as a low-cost airline, that was its second reincarnation. It actually operated as a Danish charter airline for several years until the 90s.

it's a nice aircraft but i think the British BAC 1-11 was better

The BAC 1-11 definitely has its merits. I'll be swinging around to that aircraft for one or more of these videos eventually
