WLTOYS 104311 1/10 RC Crawler! Unboxing | Review | Tested

- I am on the search for a cheap (less than $250), 1/10 RC Crawler that can be a good entry point for folks to get into crawling - without having to immediately go to the Redcat Gen8, TRX4 Sport, or Axial SCX10.
To start, I picked up this WLTOYS 104311 (amzn.to/3yJ1ftp).
It is 4WD, 1/10 scale, comes fully RTR with battery and charger...and is price at $120. Seems like this might work!
In this video, I unbox it, give you an overview of the vehicle, then take it out for a test crawl. Follow along to see the results!

I purchased of these jeeps thru walmart website for $60. I put a 25g servo, dual motor esc with drag brake, flysky receiver/transmitter, 5200mah 2s 100c lipo, oil shocks, better tires and replaced the rear motor with a redcat 370 motor. It crawls awesome now and nearly keeps up with my Redcat gen 8. Was super easy to upgrade.
I thought about going down that path, but figured it wasn't worth the upgrade $$$.
@@RoadsideRCI had most of the parts laying around but its worth messing around with. The 2s battery engages that rear motor much quicker.
Thanks for the honest review! I too am looking forward to what you find at the specified price range as I eventually do want to get into crawling as well. I like going out into the mountains and having a crawler or trail rider would be awesome. Also helping my buddy build a crawler course and some trails for trail riding/rally racing. I think he would be interested in your channel so I'm going to send him a link. Top notch content and reviews!
Glad it was helpful!
I honestly suggest you look at the Redcat Gen8, Traxxas TRX4 Sport, and the Element ECTO. Those are all VERY solid trucks, and their price points are very reasonable.
I am rather confident that the other vehicles I am going to find may be cheaper buy-in, but may require a number of upgrades to perform the same.
@@RoadsideRC My buddy got two of the Redcat Gen8's and that's what we used when building his crawler course. I like those trucks! Would love a box 80s-early 90s S10 body but I think the Blazer or Fullsize Chevy pickup will do! And I hear you on the upgrades, The one you reviewed here I agree has a cool body, But that's about it LOL. Also, I like the simple shelves you store them on, Might do something similar in my shed.
Top quality video. This vehicle was about $80 when at 1st came out, that's a tell. Whenever anybody asks me which crawler they should get to start out with I always Recommend the redcat gen 7 sport. It's only $80 more than this vehicle and better every single way by about a factor of 10. If anybody wants to see the gen 7 running I have probably over a dozen videos on my channel Of it on the trails.
Yep - I am quickly working my way towards a Gen7. Not sure if it is really worth it compared to just getting a Gen8 though
@@RoadsideRC I have both, the gen 8 is definitely a step up but the gen 7 sport is great too. Last I checked about 100$ more for the gen 8, I have a few videos of them side by side on the trail if your interested but keep in mind the gen 7 is being driven by my 6 year old most of the time in the video 😆 he does good though. If you end up getting one or both hit me with a email. I have designed some parts that I sell for these vehicles I would send you for review if you want. Front skid plate and shock Spring retainers to name a couple.
Awesome! I'll be picking one up soon.

@@RoadsideRC lol, is the car in reverse and you have the body on backwards? could you actually flip the reverse drive on the controller?
Had my attention until i saw that the tires are exactly the same as the walmart crawler jeep with camera that i bought two years ago. Then i realized that it is exactly the same minus the hideous wipers. It can flex snd crawl very well despite its non proportional nature until the big gear in each transmission strips out. Its very thin and made of plastic. I bought it the gears stripped within a week of normal crawling. Returned it got another one and the same thing happened . Got my money back.
Yeah, mine didn't even make it that far. For some reason, doesn't have enough torque to even strip the gear!
@@RoadsideRC try doing the same obstacles in reverse just to see if the front motor does the same thing. Maybe the motor is bad on the rear axle
It sure looks good. Great review
Thanks
Good job on the video Sir! But the Danchee Ridgerock is the Bang for your buck Champion when it comes to budget full size crawlers. Of course just my opinion. It’s a great place for anyone to start! This truck you have here kinda surprised me though! I didn’t think it would do what you got it to do!😜
👊🏼🤙🏽⚡️ Merry Christmas 🎄🎁🎅🏼✝️brother!
Thanks!
Yes - the Ridgerock is on my short list now.
Agreed
That's good! With giving it away. But I would definitely keep that body and put it on something else 👍
I just might!
Its not a slipper , the motors are running in series , the motor with the least resistance will unload the free electrons . The Tamiya Clod buster had this on it power save mode , basically 3.7 v is running through both motors , not 7.4v. With a simple rewiring it would be running 7.4v to each without unloading the motor with the least resistance , but you would be twice the speed and half the run time... maybe too fast for crawling.
Interesting! Thanks for the tip!
An ESC swap to a hobby-grade dual motor setup may help a lot...
@@RoadsideRC Yes , if you ran 7.4v to each motor it would overload the stock esc.
Cool review,Merry Christmas brother
Merry Christmas!
Good review 🍿📺🙂👍
Thanks!
looks great like how your talking upgrades straight away could make a great christmas present for a youngster getting into RC cars seems has some issues on test a bit sad guess better out there
*a full watch👍🎄Au🎅thumbs up*
Thanks Billy!
Can you bind a different controller to a rc rampage truck,
You would have to add a compatible receiver at minimum.
With 300$in upgrades it will be a beast. Or you could just buy something that works and is supported by parts makers
Yeah, that is where my head is with it also.
I found someone who has fully upgraded it. Had to literally replace everything.
Before you give it away you might wanna check the wltoys 104310: it's way cheaper than this one(for some reason) and it has proportional steering and throttle and I think it's the same chassis so you could put that body on it and keep the bad one for parts.
You called it! That looks MUCH better...and is currently trying only $80...
A cheap RWC crawler that I bought was a hsp rgt rock crawler for 230 aud which is very cheap
Thanks! Do Hou remember the exact model? HSP and RGT make a number of crawlers.
@@RoadsideRC model number hsp 13693
there is a screw top of the front axle whats it for
I'm sorry, I do not remember.
for about $30 more, you can get a redcat everest 10. completely hobbygrade and upgradable parts.
Exactly! A much better choice!
Right now, $61+3 shipping on Banggood.
Still, 100% don't recommend.
Before you give it away, I'd like to see that body on a trx4, looks like it could be interesting if found in sale
I think it would fit great!
very cool !
You might use the body from it, but that is about it.
I'm happy until I seen the performance but it is what it is... Thanks for sharing
Agree!
lol, is the car in reverse and you have the body on backwards? could you actually flip the reverse drive on the controller?
Ha! If only that was the actual probelm...
@RoadsideRC This was a great review. It gave me a lot of tips on what to look for. Much appreciated, saving me time and money
@@GUIDE_Nico Glad to help!
I'm gonna go with a TRX4 sport for my first rig....I currently have 2 bashers AMP Crush and Arrma Granite 😆🤣
That is a great choice!
Good shocks and servo new tires it would probably do ok
The ESC couldn't even power it appropriately!
@@RoadsideRC dam what a sin, o just grabbed an isdt esc70 for my scx10 ii
Wish traxxas would release a trx4 monster truck with a Bigfoot body
That is a fun idea!
The body on it is good because it's a RGT EX86100 / FTX Body. :) Guess they just used the molding for their toy.
I guess so!
That’s disappointing because it does look awesome.
EXACTLY!
Giving it to a kid is a great idea because my idea was smash it with the xmaxx. 😂
I thought of that also. When a review is bad, blow it up! :)
Thanks for the video, definitely not the right rig to get someone into the hobby.
Yes, that was my thought as well.
The struggle was real with that one 😆
100% Might be worth negative dollars...
@@RoadsideRC 🤣lol
😆 wtoys Walmart truck. Can't say I'm not surprised.
Yeah, I have literally had a cheapo Maisto that did better than this!
Wow that’s sad compared to the wltoys 144001 I just got last week
EXACTLY! I have had good luck with many of the other WLTOYS products. Really dissappointed with this one.
Yep, that's a toy grade not hobby grade... lol
Agree!
@@RoadsideRC I was hoping since I like my little WlToys Buggy. For the money they're great but, that crawler is a joke, and a bad one at that....
Just seen this on Amazon and knew it was trash before I looked at the second picture
Glad you figured it out!
Wow it has automatic dig function? jk lol
Ha! It was a feature - I didn't even realize! :)
These were $50 at one time lol
I bought this one on Black Friday for $60...so the pain is less.
@@RoadsideRC Nice!
Oh no...
Buy one?
It just a kids toy!
Hard to even call it that!
Hmmm…..lol
Yes....exactly.
Looks like a hot mess and thats pretty steep for just a body. You could do better with a 2nd hand new bright of eBay for just a body.
That is probably right!
I would rather that had a crap body and good electronics.
AGREE!!!
Total waste of money, if someone buys this it would just give them a bad experience with R/C and they will think all R/C is junk.
That is pretty much where my review landed.
@@RoadsideRC hopefully your review keeps people from spending there hard earned money on that model, but giving it to a young kid that maybe can't get a R/C will make his day...👍
I for sure won’t buy it. 👍🙏
Sounds like a plan!
@@RoadsideRC I do appreciate your video though 😎
@@RoadsideRC you saved me the time and money fore sure you did good. Thank you my friend 🙏
Check out the team associated cr12 tioga for a awesome crawler for the money . It's normally its like $190 .
Thanks for the tip!
Wltoys 104311 worthless? better buy a MN99S with metal driveshafts.
Maybe I will try it!
