a Note about Charles' top speed: this has nothing to do with set up, he was the only driver to never have DRS down the Kemmel straight while every other driver did at some point on low fuel in the race (he had DRS on HAM in some of the first few laps on the SF straight but because the Ferrari was very slow in La Source, he couldn't get DRS coming out of it). I don't understand the George hate but I really feel that Merc shot themselves in the foot, because they actually didn't expect George to have tires till the end.

Here’s the thing about this, their plan was always for Lewis to get P1 that’s why they pitted him, to get ahead of Leclerc. When George wanted to go one-stop, they worked out all the possibilities and thought the tires were going to fall off, but he had a shot at podium rather than p5 which is where he would have ended up. George didn’t cheat, nor does anyone remotely reasonable thinks that. His car failed to meet the post race requirements. That’s frustrating, but he will have gotten a confidence boost and confirmation that his judgement to go for a 1 stop was correct. In the long run, that is still a win.

@@freyalove3831 Merc didn’t cheat. They just hadn’t taken a 1 stopper into account. The longer stint meant less rubber on the tires at the end of the race (times 4), so someone probably told Toto they might be on the edge, hence the long face. Also, they couldn’t pick up rubber in the in lap, as per usual. 1.5 kilograms or, for our imperial friends, a little over 3 pounds is easily picked up by driving through the marbles.

Always a challenge to get it 100% correct so always error of the higher side by a few pounds. But I'm not sure the criticism of Lando w.r.t. being unable to pass Max wasn't entirely fair given Max's new engine. The most important overtaking spots at Spa are just after the two long straights/high speed sections. Of course he put himself into this position with his turn 1 mistake (and this is something he needs to address, he seems to suffer from either too much or too little adrenaline at the start). But I don't think it's too surprising that Max was able to defend against him with the new engine. What did surprise me was the McLaren pitstop strategy, which you rightly pointed out as well. They need to get a handle on this, soon, if they want to be true contenders.

Despite obviously being devastated for George (He's one of my favourite drivers) a genuine question and pinch for thought here.
Why does the FIA weigh cars with tires on? I mean that makes little, to no sense to me. Because that is not really the weight of the car when it's racing. Picking up the marbles on the cooldown lap is essentially something that the teams do to prevent from being caught 'cheating'. But that happens like every single Grand Prix and every single team is doing it. Despite this it's also bound to be inconsistent at times imo. Maybe some tires pick up fewer marbles than others for some reason. Why don't they just take off the tires and weigh the actual car?

I am not at all a fan of George - I've often called out his whiney and nagging behaviour on the radio. Or just even his entitlement to race victories since joining Mercedes. However, this was so sad to see! We only get treated a few times a year when the driver changes the strategy on the spot and gets a victory.
Your explanation of having changed parts sounds possible.
But ... correct me if I'm wrong: They weighed the car after the race and then discovered there was some fuel still in there. Only after that fuel was also extracted, the car was too light. If this is true, Mercedes should be investigated for tampering with evidence. This is why parc ferme exists and why drivers aren't allowed to touch other cars.
As for Perez - he needs to go. He's been a good driver, a good defender, and played an absolute critical role in some races. However, we cannot deny how bad his other races were. In 2022 he was angry at Max for not helping him at Interlagos - but that was his own fault for underperforming to the point that Hamilton got 2nd. In 2023 he even barely made 2nd place! His crashes also play a part here. He had 4 crashes this year already.

Were the hard tires just goated that day? Even if you want to say George's care was lighter the whole race (not from tire wear) the fact remains that Lewis was way faster then him, until he caught up
