Eeeeh. To me that's just the product of something being popular. The more popular something is, the more people pick it apart. ESPECIALLY people that liked the thing before it, but the thing before it is less popular. P5 has a lot of flawed or rushed moments, many of which come down to Japanese humour that doesn't translate well (Ryuji being beaten by the girls after he survives, for instance) in my opinion. It's those same kinda' misplaced side jokes or cultural differences that make me like the P4 cast the least. I don't mind the spin-offs either. They're making a lot of people happy, and people that resent that are just selfish asshats. As for journos comparing everything to it... yeah, journos suck. They'll always do that with anything mainstream because they suck. That's not the game's fault though. TLDR: People need to get over themselves.

Yeah it's just a case now with how Persona 5 shot the series popularity to the Stratosphere, now that it's been around for a long while on top of being like the go to pick for amazing RPGs for tons of people, folks are getting sick of it. It's like how Awakening saved Fire Emblem and people hate the the aftermaths of how that game changed Fire Emblem as a whole despite it paving the way to being one of Nintendo's top franchises.
I was never a fan of the whole "hate this thing because everyone likes it" mindset personally. Especially when sometimes, people wanna ignore the genuine good a medium has brought

One of the reasons why I don't like Persona 5 as much as I like Persona 3 and 4 is how the story and the characters seem recycled, one of the biggest examples of this is Makoto and Haru, it seems like Jaldabaoth not only separated Lavenza but Mitsuru as well, they literally take all of Mitsuru's development and make it worse, Makoto got the part of Mitsuru who behaves like the mother of the group and tries to take care of everyone and is smart and responsible and has a motorcycle, but Makoto is angrier and harsher than Mitsuru, which makes her just look like an asshole most of the time, Haru got the part of being the orphan heiress who has to deal with family business, likes European things and is sadistic. This also happens with Jaldabaoth, the fake Igor plot twist is recycled from pharos, and has much less impact on persona 5, Sae Nijima's interrogation also serves to inform you in an enigmatic way what will happen in the next arc of the story, just like pharos . They also practically created Akechi by throwing Naoto, Adachi and Sho from persona 4 arena into a blender. Persona 4's murders are also recycled in a much worse way and are left aside, the game tries to create this suspense of who is behind the mental shutdowns but it seems that the writers themselves forgot about them, I just remembered that the mental shutdowns had happened when Akechi is exposed.

I can't argue about the recycled bit because I agree that Persona 5 does use recycled templates for character's.
Haru has a similar social link to Mitsuru with the whole forced marriage to help their respective companies, but wanna be able to be themselves and move on after their father's deaths.
Sophia and Zenkichi as much as I love them, there's no denying that they use the existing template of Aigis and Dojima.
Ryuji and Kanji share similarities but the context is different.
Akechi is Essentially Adachi and Sho combined.
So I completely understand that it's the rehash aspect of things in Persona 5 that makes it harder for it to stand on its own. Which is fair, depends on whether or not the different use of context and setting worked for you, which it did for me.
I did think the Yaldaboth twist was pretty cool though. Especially for a long time Persona fan, I think it's an interesting twist using Igor to hide the true villain.

The one thing I have against Makoto is that the game coastally TELLS up she is smart, but I want the game to SHOW us she is smart. Most of her "smart" moments are just spouting out common sense in the phantom thief chat room or figuring out something that a dumbass like me figured out as soon as the problem was presented.
Something like Goro in Sai's palace would work, the game shows time and time again how quickly he can adapt to the "rules" of a palace and turn it against them, like when he bet on Joker and pulled out a ton of money to pay off the stairs to the treasure. That was showing he was as smart as he was hyped up to be.
Oh, also she beat up my homie Ryiji after risking his life in a badass sacrifice and that is a sin I can forgive none of the girls for.

I think when they refer to Makoto as smart if you take the gameplay related stuff as her being your tutorial guide for what to do.
Times where she is smart tend to be explaining the bigger picture for everyone when they're in a conflict. Like when they were trying to gauge the situation of when they were getting framed for Okumura's death.
Again she's really more of a mediator than like the brains of the group.

    Cons of Morgana:
A pompous temperament past the point of charm, overly demeaning tone, a poorly handled character arc, simp, overused gag.
    Pros of Morgana:
    Funky little guy.
I think these aspects are pretty balanced ngl🥸

My opinion in short is that I just don’t enjoy the Phantom Thieves banter as much as I do with the P3 and P4 cast. I can only take so many “im not a cat” jokes before I start audibly groaning 😅.

    Ren: lacks personality
Morgana: just a pain in the ass(worst teddie)
Ryuji: gets bullied by the team for no reason
Ann: after her arc its a glorified barbie doll
Makoto and yusuke: actual characters but yosuke doesnt get to grown eneugh
    Futaba: Upgraded Nanako

    You explained Ann so well!
I relate to Ann a lot personally and the fact that atlus did not show good character development for ann and constantly placing her in sexualized situations is what upsets me a lot becuase if ann was taking back her sexuality, shouldnt there be less sexualization of her? its what i ask lol

    • @RisingSonic17
      @RisingSonic17  9 месяцев назад +1

I think if they wanted to show more of Ann taking back her sexuality, you would wanna do more of using her charms to get what she wants from the enemies or showcase she's not ashamed of her looks like in Persona 5 Dancing.
But, she has to be used a lot for the fan service anime moments. So it's sending mixed signals for everyone. Lol
