For me, the "box" represents what society, the media, the standard that people in general want to transform you into... and from the pile of clothes how many were lost in this process... @@LauReacts ~ Taehyung is blind in his right eye, IU is deaf, but also possibly mute as she not only signs but doesn't speak, but instead uses signals to say where to go/what to do..They are escaping persecution for not being 'perfect'.
The people in the banquet hall are faceless, and are mocking them and trying to separate them; they represent how disability is seen as social anathema; how those who are disabled are treated as outcasts. You see Taehyung and IU knocking them out of the way.
The cube is a metaphor for how society discards those who are disabled, who don't fit in the right 'box'.
It's heartbreaking and mesmeric as IU and Taehyung have such natural chemistry, and IU's singing is so evocative and beautiful.
Their acting is everything, but then, they are both award winning actors; and we love that they are also close friends in the real world.
I've watched so many reactions of this mv and a stray comment made me look at it completely different. The apocalyptic world is the real world, society eating up idols, consuming their lives. She is deaf to the voices of her critics, (or mute: unable to speak out against this consumption) and he's blind to everyone but her. Though they desperately cling to one another they can't live in peace. They look through the lens of their video recorder and see only themselves and their love in this world. The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.
IU is absolutely ethereal and this was so powerful.

I've watched this MV a dozen times and watched several dozen reactors. The end result is the same: no words could possibly convey my feelings on how powerful this experience was.
The song/singing and the mv (directing and acting) are a perfect match.
I don't believe I can ever watch this mv without crying. I am human, after all.
I would highly recommend diving into more IU, she has some amazing albums, specially her last one Lilac.

You should watch IU’s pallet “The Ending Scene” where they both sing together. It’s amazing! They have such amazing chemistry. I need a movie for this. And also collabs.
Here's my take: I saw IU as some sort of caretaker/lover for V and that V represented the disabled (or a group of minority that society sees as undesired). He seemed to be blind (half), mute/deaf, and a bit autistic (looked like he acts a bit like a child at times). IU communicates with V via sign language, leads the way when they move, goes along with V when he "plays" with the magical camcorder, wipes off crumbs from V's mouth when he "eats" (I also thought IU started to pretend-eat to distract V from the harsh reality), first picks up the pipe to protect V from the cube, and covers his eye at the end to shield him from what's to come. There is no happy ending here. The truth is that in today's society, the world is a cruel place for the minority. Another thing I noticed was that the world looked empty, but when IU and V start doing "normal people" stuff, figures in black appear and start being aggressive towards them, as if they weren't allowed to do them. I don't know if there will ever be a confirmed meaning for this MV, but that's just my take on it.
The mv is a reminder of all the discrimination and hatred in the world.
Anything that doesn't conform to the norm for society faces eradication.
Love wins all. We need to give love the opportunity to take root.
Give love a chance.
The boxes represent all the prejudices and judgements of the society. And when you don't fit in those boxes society will tear you down. Handicap (IU is deaf or mute and Tae and his blue eye), age gap (woman is older than him that represented by her most of the time dragging him). It's not about the end of the world. But it's them against the whole world. They were happy with their love of each other but people where mocking them, judging them. Their happy times at the restaurant and the wedding party. The anonymous face pointing there fingers.
I started thinking that's what it might be and I wish I had said that in my reaction but I was very overwhelmed. But it does make a lot of sense!

To me, the message is how our world will never be without hate, discrimination, injustice and violence, but if we continue to love each other (e.g. IU with Uaenas), our love will see us through to the end. Our love will keep us together until we fade away. 🥲So instead of being able to escape, they are fading together. Face what is scary with someone you trust and see things beautifully as long as you are with someone you love. This is Jieun's song for UAENAS ( fans)

The piles of clothes aren't exclusive to Spring Day, BTS were also referencing an artist who did an art piece/installation following the Sewol Tragedy. If you watch a Spring Day explanation video it's in there although, it is also a theory. The artist who created it was mourning and remembering those who were lost. ****DISCLAIMER: No Offense, just my 2 cents.

I read that the concept behind the video is that IU’s character is deaf and Taehyung’s character is blind in one eye and the cubes are getting rid of anyone with a disability. When they find the magic camera they forget that they are running away because they see how their life would be if they were “normal” and become lost in the happiness of the moment.
