Calgary Fire Department warns of lithium battery hazards

According to the Calgary Fire Department, fires caused by lithium-ion batteries have jumped by 150 per cent over the last year. Tate Laycraft has more on battery dangers.

Electric Car fires are a nightmare

The material in lithium batteries breaks down over time which can cause spontaneous fires.
There hasn't been a lot of fires with electric vehicles so far since they're not as common as combustion vehicles and they're fairly new. Wait 10 years and see how well they're performing then.

Gas powered cars catch fire at a significantly higher rate than electric cars, it literally states that in the news story. Turns out carrying around 50L of highly flammable gas also has dangers associated with it.
