Not all of Boulez's music speaks to me, but I do enjoy this work. Why make the poor soprano stand the entire time? I also always wish the videos of performances like this could be directed by someone who can read a score -- too many long shots of musicians *not* playing.
I don't believe the soprano was MADE to stand there. I think it's her own idea. It's as if the whole movement is just a prelude to her last heroic musical declaration, ending with that final susurrando, "mort," and the orchestra's full stop. Terrifying and beautiful. Mostly (not entirely) in the tradition of musical Tombeaus throughout history.
Incredible passionate and beautiful performance of this rather bulky piece of music. And Marisol Montalvo ... She's so sexy in her blue gown!! And of course a great soprano too. I've got wet eyes at her enthusiastic outburst at the end... Matthias Pintscher is doing a REALLY GREAT JOB (generally speaking).
"Don" and "Tombeau" as the outer movements, using fragments in the first and a single line of Mallarme in the latter, are pretty much my favorite compositions from Boulez. I was always somehow under the impression that Boulez here, in these later movements was at his bests, while the treatment of the poems in the Improvisations isn't that strong. Still, one of the greatest pieces of 20th century music.
Please listen to the original version of Improvisation III in this amazing performance: ruclips.net/video/EXHXzlRx0Ng/видео.html I think you may find it to be the equal of Tombeau in quality. The second part of the piece reminds me of what would be highly sophisticated Lalo Schifrin!
There appears to be a certain kind of RUclips creature who seeks out videos of avant-garde classical music in order to tell everyone how much they hate it. As if anyone else cares. It must be sad to be one of these creatures.
Barbara Hannigan singsand conducts fronmemory Ligeti's Macabre .New species of uman!9th 10th minute of this devilishly extreme music -unforgettable !Can you imagine the desperate counting going on even those wails in the saxophone are precisely notated .This score is impossible toread and to doit right ?! Why are 3 harps necessary .Somanymust feeluttery clueless when presented with this score and its already over 60 years old ,Confounds me at every listen.I memorized the entire FIRST PAGE of the 2nd Sonata. Just one page . Many now memorize many of his scores .evels are sohigh now in performance .And the music always eventful is its own world .
you must be well prepared to play in this orchestra...I mean mentally speaking...this kind of music is not for everybody....personally I dont like it because it's cold and emotionless
Cela rappelle un peu Berg mais sans le lyrisme… Ces musiciens ont bien du mérite. Ce qui retient surtout l'attention c'est la poitrine de la chanteuse.
totally, utterly extraordinary, especially the last few minutes and the final "mort". Marisol Montalvo looks positively like a roaming tiger at times!
What an absolutely delightful creature she is - the way she smiles and is so excited at the end!!!!
She just damn sang the whole thing from memory!
L’enthousiasme de Marisol Montalvo à l’issue de cette prestation réussie est prodigieux. J’adore!
Elle était trop contente que ça se termine. C'était plus dur pour elle que pour le public. L'orchestre était juste derrière elle.
excellent! so beautiful!
my current favorite piece
A truly masterpiece.
Forgettable music that computer AI can make.

Remind that Tombeau (which is the title of the poem by Mallarme) is only a part of Pli selon Pli.
rloomis3 in this last mouvement (Tombeau) she doesn't sing but she does sing in anterior mouvement.
TROP BEAU
Maravilhosa a interpretação de Marisol Montalvo. Pena que Boulez reservou-lhe apenas alguns preciosos minutos ao final de "Tombeau".

@@LiteratureTodayUK not his fault that the singer isnt wearing a bra
Love her enthusiasm at 15:22.
She is quite a masterpiece, nothing else to see here, after a while I put it on mute and it was much better.
Agreed. Just cut off the postmodern noise, keep the visual and add some real music and this is really enjoyable.

THe only thing wrong here is the foot of mr. Pintscher foot before the last chord. What a great work. Just incredible
I think that was the most human sounding thing that ever happened in that event just right before the clapping.
The final 3 minutes are so dramatic!
Wasn't this just the last movement of a performance of the entire work?
Yes. This is a cycle on Mallarmé(s poems
Vous n'avez pas posté Mallarmé I, II, III ?
bravo!!
Great piece, but have to admit I was somewhat distracted by the soprano's minimal outfit. I love her reaction at the end.

Yes, I never understood boasting about one's ignorance.

What would Herr Richard Wagner say about this?
We'll never know. You'll have to form an opinion without his input.

Et la queue bien tendue du chef d'orchestre.
The classical music world must disown this rubbish if it is to survive.
There are so many music "critics'' on virtually any Boulez music page who sceam for some kind of justice.

NoiseGrinder: You are wrong. Besides that, it's too late anyway. Classical music flourishes!
The notion of classical music is very wide. Do you often listen to medieval music? All our music comes from there
The classical music world must exclude people who do not HEAR the music
