It is simultaneously one of the most powerful, ominous, and fear inducing sounds and the most soothing persistent tone I've ever heard. I feel both relaxed and in grave danger at the same time while listening to it, it feels almost as good as an adrenaline rush.
Paula Catlover you know, i am not deaf, i am talking about my OWN impression. This noise is relaxing for me, at last in the video. But i dunno if it would be the same if i lived near the building.
I think this humming happens all the time when the wind blows on buildings, but the city noise usually masks the humming (unless it gets loud enough like in this video.) But just imagine living during a post apocalypse and hearing faint humming coming from everywhere in an empty city.
No, skyscrapers don't hum from wind. The loud noise is unfortunately a result of architectural design flaws. The thin, vertical, decorative glass feature on top of the building funnels the wind producing a humming noise; similar to blowing over the top of a glass beer bottle.
Hi there Colin, I really like this video! My name is Olga and I'm an Assistant Producer working on an engineering TV show - we are doing a story on the humming Beetham Tower. I'm looking to speak to someone local about this strange phenomenon and I would love to feature your video in the show. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks, Olga
So if its just about some stupid blade on top making the sound, can't they just remove it? Must be exhausting having to listen to that all the time. The building looks awful as it is I think.
How come nobody sued the owner of the building. Have a court order them to remove that thing from the top. It is ugly as hell and I can't imagine living in that area. If somebody put a loudspeaker in the streets and played the same noise he would be taken down by the police in no time, why is this any different? 10 years since it started and it keeps whistling...
You should go up there with axes and smash that shit! The designer was a total idiot, that's for sure! Another ugly tower, but it's already making noise! Congratulations!

A long time ago in a Manchester far far away...
in a not so long time ago
I remember going to Manchester for a day out with my friend, and the tower started to hum. My friend thought a choir was singing!
goosebumps...lovely!
i feel sorry for people who live near this tower
On the contrary, I find this sound cool as fuck and would love to live there lol
It doesn't happen often anyway, only in really high winds.
Still hearing it now, thanks for the video!
That would give me some weird dreams. And drive me nuts in the daytime.
quality british engineering
The tower is known for emitting a peculiar buzzing when there is wind and can be heard in places some distance as Hulme.
I am still waiting for THE theme song when the text scrolls
STANDING HERE LIKE IM SUPPOSED TO SAY SOMETHING
the sound like a bee humming the symbol of Manchester 😘👍
OK. That was both interesting and creepy. lol Reminds me of that Silent Hill video game and movie.

it doesn't sound anoying actualy, i even say, with the sound of wind in the background, it feel kinda relaxing....
+Bonbadil Moi It's not a wind noise, it's constant, creepy musical notes. Not white noise.

I agree, it's relating to me, too. Sort of like a wind chime except different sounds. And the tower is cool looking, too me.
@@bonbadilmoi9325 you are not deaf?
Brilliant ! :-)

Yeah, no. Regular buildings do not make that noise when there are heavy winds blowing.

Pretty annoying after a while, but pretty cool it was used in Paramore's 'Idle Worship'!

Hi Olga, yes sure.
@@colinmcwilliam597 Thank you so much! Is there any way you could send me the original video directly? Possibly via email?
Curious. Why not fix it? Just remove the sculpture portion? That’s a question not a statement.
Holy shit even watching this video my ears are so annoyed I can't imagine people who live near that creepy building. Sleep well Manchester.
In the (r)ear. 😅
😄
Wow that is disaster
WooWW It's Increible That Tower, But Here In Colombia We Have Building More Talk And More Pretty Lol xD xD !!

It's far from an all-the-time thing. Only happens during storms really. And tbh I find it cool af, it's a movie-esque sound, ominous yet relaxing.
Oi
