Fun fact: the reason mirrors wouldn't reflect vampires is because old mirrors used to be lined with silver (silver being a holy metal, see werewolves for an example). Modern mirrors aren't lined with silver so not only could they be walking amongst us, we have now way of checking unless we have garlic or holy water handy!
I'm working on some relatively simple tactical rules right now, it doesn't really need much. I will be pulling in a version of the old critical hits chart and a few other things from Oldjammer.
I always liked the really weird spheres in Spelljammer. The boundless creativity of the setting is one of its best qualities. Anything conceivable is inside some sphere somewhere. I have to read the 5E version, but it should still be possible.
I like how in the 5e adventure there's a sphere where the remains of an actual crystal sphere still remains. The book gives it some lore but to me, being someone who played the original, it seems more like a relic of the lost times and the lost phlogiston. One little clue to remind us of what has been lost.
Frivolous sphere: lark space Public land sphere: park space Undercover sphere: narc space Listening sphere: hark space Mocking comment sphere: snark space Subatomic sphere: quark space Species Preservation sphere: ark space Unmapped sphere: mark space
This could make a great option for a domain of dread. Think about if T’laan was never able to leave and he is trapped in a barren wasteland, constantly looking for ways to bring fresh blood to himself.
Great stuff, I'm running Crystal Spheres in my 2e campaign. I like how in Faeriespace their is a mushroom palace with a king. I decided to change the king to Princess Peach from Mario Bros. LOL. And the "Sun Seeds", I just made them a one of the "Power Ups" from Mario Bros too. The Power ups are the magic of the Mushroom Princesses Principality. Mushrooms that make you big, small, invincible for a time.
I'm running SJA3 right now in my post Avernus-spelljammer game! We'll probably see the party enter Darkspace this week, so I now feel very validated in my choice!
Hi Jorphdan, I would love a more detailed video about The Shaar. You mentioned it (and Eastern Shaar) in a few video's but I don't think you have one about that region in particular. I love everything you do, you are an amazing inspiration to me as a DM. kind regards
The adventure mentions the possibility, but leaves it to the DM, of T’laan being drawn into Ravenloft! Darkspace could become a domain! The Spacefarers Guide book mentions the mists of Ravenloft do appear in Wildspace but as Black Mist so hard to see in space. So Ravenloft really needs a Spelljammer Domain and Darkspace would be a good one for it.
The updated rules would make the Scro more of a society of more sophisticated and organized orcs, shouldn't be too hard to bring back with how the rules for character (and humanioid monster) creation have changed. Just have to stat up the ships, save for the scorpion.
never ran the setting myself but I remember a friend of mine telling me about there's a giant planet that's basically living flesh nothing but all these dead bodies on there know anything about that one
Lack of space (bad pun unintended). 2e Spelljammer had a lot of supplements and adventures! Four boxed sets, three major Wildspace system books (Realmspace, Krynnspace and Greyspace), the Practical Planetology book for making your own with examples, an entire book on the Rock of Bral and quite a few adventures like this one. 2e had lots and lots of pages of material. But good news, Drivethrurpg and DMSGUILD have these old books in PDF and drivethrurpg has a few on print on demand. While some changes would need to be adapted most of all that lore can just be lifted straight out and used in 5e.
Darkspace reviews for Humanoids: Lifeless, dead, full of unfriendly vampires 0/10 Darkspace reviews for MInd flayers: Quiet and out of way for some quality scheming and no Sun but devoid of Quality brains 6/10 Reviews For Lichs and Nightstalkers: 5 star accommodations, abundant corpses and negative energy and no pesky sun or living things to get in the way 10/10
More lore than was in the new Spelljammer book, that's for sure. SO this is different than Doomspace, mentioned in the former? I'm trying to understand these "Wildspace Systems" S:AiP talks about; are these galaxies? Are their habitable areas within them available for exploration? How deep into 2nd ed. do I have to dive to maintain even a semblance of cannon in my games?
@@nicolocorbellani9807 I'm sure that's somewhat true, but they have ratified the structure of how space functions in 5e in a somewhat compelling / more efficient way. There just wasn't enough info. on how they imagined it playing out in microcosm. Wildspace systems could make fantastic galactic zones of exploration; its just picking through all of the old lore & synergizing it with the 5e system mechanics that is a lot of work. Its just bittersweet that some of the heavy lifting is foisted onto the communities back. Its a very Bethesda thing to do.
In 5E the spelljaming vampires (vampirates) explode on death instead of having sunlight weakness and also do not have most of the vampiric powers (like regeneration, shapeshifting, summoning, and so on). They feed on life energy instead of blood and can do so from up to 30 ft. away. A regular vampire would have a very bad time in space, unless they had some means to protect themselves.
@@probablythedm1669 That's what I'm saying. Once you get off planet there's nothing to protect a normal vampire from not just the sun in his own wildspace, but presumably any other sun that's visible (which means it's light is reaching them). It would be a nightmare for them. That or they'd have to get real used to just hanging out below deck and letting any minions they have run things.
@@sentor98 Reminder that a vampire can just be below the deck of a ship while in wildspace. It's not like sunlight is so pervasive that it can bleed through the material of a ship and light up the whole interior of said ship. And also with how Spelljammer works in 5e now, once in the Astral Sea a vampire wouldn't have to worry about sunlight at all.

Oh man, this lore is really cool! I wish that the 5e spelljammer supplement was thicker to have content like this!

Modern mirrors aren't lined with silver so not only could they be walking amongst us, we have now way of checking unless we have garlic or holy water handy!
Silver's also naturally anti-bacterial and vampires are associated with the dead
I'm finding my self needing to bring in more and more 2e subrulings and cannon into this "5e Spelljammer" setting set

Your lore vids are the best, especially on Forgotten realms and spelljammer. Thank you for enlightening plebs like us.
A great option to bring back for the new Spelljammer. Is there more lore on Hero Space and Fairy Space?
There isn't much but it's all in that adventure "Crystal Spheres"
You had me at space vampires
I can't help but think of that space vampire in one of the Buck Rogers episodes from 1980s television.
This could make a great option for a domain of dread. Think about if T’laan was never able to leave and he is trapped in a barren wasteland, constantly looking for ways to bring fresh blood to himself.
You hit another one out the park Jorphdan!
Southern hemisphere is safe from vampires, especially space vampires, because of the Southern Cross.
*slow clap* well done lol

awesome!
The light of the moon is just reflected sun light!
Vampirates! I'm going to have my party fight some on a meteor in wild space! Spell jammer is awesome!🤘⚔️🎉
Hey I'd like to see a video on Kara tur sometime, just found your channel and loved the videos on Faerun and Zakhara.

Sweet Titan AE reference Broham!
Im stealing that vampire telescope joke
Space Vampires....so..."Life Force"...look THAT gem up.
Kind of like Klingons are Space Orcs?
The Scro in Spelljammer were the stand-ins for Klingons
And Romulans are space hobgoblin, Andorians are space Tieflings, Vulcans are space elves
I always looked at it in a similar fashion
@@bluebird3281 If the Vulcans are Space Elves, wouldn’t the Romulans be… Space Drow? 😜

Can you do a video on the Scro? (Even though they don’t seam to exist anymore unfortunately.)

I had a while Spelljammer campaign readied with an excape from a prison planet for next week, and my group fell apart before we even begun. I am sad
that sounds awesome! what a great idea 🙂
0:13 ok... I'm not sleeping tonight
Mirrors... LOL good stuff
This would make a great movie
Vampires in SPAAACCCCCEEE!!

So I’m planning on dming a game in the astrl sea. But this game is a school (like harry poter) I love the idea of a whole planet of vampires.
Is this world linked to Lolth? ISTR in Q1 there's a portal to a world of eternal night ruled by undead.

there's a horror movie from the 80s called life-force that's about space vampires.

it's very simple, if you want to have a good spelljammer game just run the 2 ed lore.
ignore 5e, wotc just said that everything before is not canon.

areas where the astral sea fades into a reigon of void I guess.
Less galaxies and more a solar system or collection of solar systems inside each sphere(wait no its wildspace system now).
I miss Crystal Spheres
wouldn't vampires die in space considering all the literal unfiltered suns out there?
