Koah and I plant our very first seeds (Carrots) ! The first steps towards producing our own food and learning about Gardening! HOW TO GROW CARROTS IN A BUCKET!
We are growing carrots, beans and lettuce in a bucket currently. It’s a giant bucket from Bunnings that’s made for growing. We are renting so we can take them with us when we buy a place hopefully
I’ve been looking at my little garden this week, and God has literally been telling me to “just start.” We’re renting at the moment so I thought I had to wait until we had our own block of land to start my dream veggie garden. But you’ve just encouraged me to just get going with what Ive got for now. Thank you!
Sand with carrot seeds spread over top of soil then wipe hand over to move soil over the seeds. Rule of thumb is to plant seeds at depth of size of seed. But you started yae🎉
Check out Charles Dowding no till gardening... He multisows, you can leave more in and harvest over time :) heaps of tips there although he is in UK so seasons are off...
You can even add carrot seed-mix with sand & sprinkle over surface, light water spray & cover with cardboard/timber til sprouting . Thinned crop can also be replanted👏 Pray God's Blessings over your harvest xxx
Well done on starting the garden even if in buckets food is good. Also love that even though you are not in your own home on your land yet you are still already getting the process started. ❤❤❤
carrots don't need really good soil. this year im doing carrots in grow pots instead of the ground. Ive used last years potting mix with a small bit of perlite to make it easy for the carrots to push throough. ive got them sitting in trays and am bottom watering so they hopefully grow down deep searching for the water.
Something I considered when wanting to grow my own food was the cost of the things I was growing. Things like salad greens are quick to grow, expensive and poor quality to purchase in stores and almost impossible to find organically grown (where I live at least). Kale is another one. Just something to consider. Carrots are fairly inexpensive and easy to find organically grown so you are investing a lot of time and effort that at least initially could be better spent on maybe broccoli, cauliflower etc and tomatoes, capsicum, cucumbers, etc in the summer. Snow pea sprouts are good too!

Nice work growing your carrots. You will love the taste when you have your first home grown carrot. Sometimes the first step is the hardest.
