I had two cesarean births so I never had the chance to experience a natural wonderful birth. I feel lucky in some ways but I also wish I could have experienced the empowerment of giving birth at home naturally. 😢 That's why I admire these videos, even though I couldn't experience it I can see what it would have been like.

This is a good reminder of why "self sufficiency" is a bit of an absurd goal for pretty much everybody. Community is important. Have good people around you so you can help each other out. Share food, share skills, etc.

Option 3 with a little bit of option 1 has been the ticket for me! I like automating systems, but I find they always fail at the worst possible time 😂

Regular sprays set up over the area you want to water, cheap tap timer possible for under $100 if youve got a garden hose. Just enough water to keep it moist. When it rains it does not give 1 planter more than the next.when starting up is when you should be making allowances for how to water, but if you do it right youll only do it once. It doesnt have to be exspensive. Just planned for, no matter who or where we are. For the future, failing to plan is a recipe to plan to fail.

We used to have some one come and stay at our place while we were away. We had drip sprinklers and automatic feeders etc but they still need to be checked. 😊😊

I think you just kinda pick up a little of all 3 options as you go. 1. Takes time and money, the longer you have to build your automation, the less each spend is. You can get amazing auto watering systems for your plants/seedlings that are really customisable including separate zones for different watering requirements and app control so you can "manually" water your cherished goods even while you're not home etc 2. Definitely a little far - fetched but essentially you want your homestead to be somewhere you want to spend time and don't want to leave - but, you definitely need a few contingencies built in 3. Love thy neighbour - you guys have obviously bought your patch with self-sufficiency/homesteading in mind, the longer you're there & the more you network, you'll find someone who's happy to scratch your back while you're away in return for you scratching theirs from time to time, likely with a surprisingly similar list of jobs. Option 3 is definitely the stand out but working towards option 1 over the coming weeks, months, years, decades.......

Just wondering if Beano is going to the Feast of Tabernacles? If not, perhaps he could be in charge of looking after the plants and feeding the chooks? 🐒

To be honest Tom, option 2 for me, I'm so content where I am I just don't want to go anywhere because when I do I miss the place dearly and just want to be back home with my plants and all my stuff, you know, blokey stuff, but hey, that's me haha. I do make short runs around the town but that's about it. Also, when you get home give the people watching your plants a box of chocky's or something, they'll appreciate it. Seeya Rob

Just a little tip if your chickens are pecking feathers they may need extra protein or they could be bored. The made need some enrichment in their environment like a hanging basket filled with cabbage or a few branches for them to climb on
