    I have a Craftsman router and bought the Harbor Freight bushings and had to return them. They were a fraction too big to fit in the hole. I bought a more expensive set off of Amazon that look identical but they fit fine.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      Yes sometimes the holes are different sizes on different routers. Glad you got it figured out. Thanks for watching, Eric

    Hey Dave, Happy New Year. I thought I would let you know that you can put that step hole in your existing base that you made if you have forstner bits just cut the big hole first just deep enough for the template follower and finish with the smaller hole because the bit already has the center cut started for you

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      Sounds like a great way to do that, Thank you!!!

    Did you get the centering pin that should be part of the bushing kit? it makes centering the bushing (or bushing and base plate) pretty direct.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      The set didn't come with one. Would have been nice.

  • @marcbuteau6122
    @marcbuteau6122 6 лет назад

    Eric, wouldn't a heavier router be more stable? especially in pine? heavier, more power, less tendency to snag the grain lines? I don't know since I can't compare, I only have one router.
    this might be interesting, i believe you have a few routers correct? how about testing all of them with the same bit in the same wood (pine) and see which snags the less and which snags the most.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      I used a heavy full size router for about 35 years before I got the idea to try the palm routers. I have lots more control with the small routers. That being said I have met a few carvers that like the heavier routers better for stability. So it becomes a personal preference. Everyone is different. It may make a good video to do a comparison head to head tho. Thank you for the idea, I will give that some thought.

    Opps- your description is one of the most direct I have seen- bushings can be fun (Thanks for pointing out the ability to make small changes in the sizes- always wondered what the great big ones were, even bigger than the 1/2" bits... thanks again for a stupendous series, better than any others I have watched!

    I'm glad I watch this this morning because I purchased one of those routers and I have been debating sending you guys the base to attach a carving base plate to it I only planned on using it for big backgrounds but it being poorly made is a good thing to know

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад +1

      I think for carving signs it should work fine. Just not to precision for cutting shapes. But it still worked just fine.

    Do you use a centering guide? I do a lot of inlays and a centering guide is a must. Even with my better routers. Another thought is to slightly ream the base plate mounting holes for more adjustability.

    • @oldave100
      @oldave100  6 лет назад

      Normally for what I do I don't need a centering guide. Would have been handy here. Yes opening those hole would have been another way to go too. Thank you for the feedback, Eric
